Summary In this talk Geoffrey Canada stresses that we, as a

nation need to innovate the educational system. He is concerned that the system has been the same for the past 50 years. No matter how many students fail each year, the schools have not done anything to change their approach towards education. Even though many students are failing now, it is not too late to save them. He believes that the real safety of our nation is preparing the next generation so they can take over and be the leaders of our country. We need to start innovating TODAY.

Arguments: Technology changes As a nation we spend too much money on everything else

(technology, warfare, healthcare, etc.) except education We are fully aware that there is a fall in education, however,

no one is doing anything to fix it. Summer school- poor kids lose ground in summer because

there is no school. Teachers are getting test results back too late. (end of the

year instead of beginning) so they can’t notice which students are struggling and they can’t correct them and come up with a solution.

Examples: The reason why the educational system is failing

so hard is because the businesses are refusing to use science.

*Science is the key to success We know science more now, yet we are still not

doing anything about it. Need to use Science to innovate now. Because

right now, we are on an educational cliff.
