ALABAMA SERIES HISTORY Georgia leads the all-time series against Alabama by a 81-65-2 tally. The teams met four times during the 2018 season, including the season opener in Tuscaloosa, the SEC Championship, NCAA Regionals, NCAA Semifinals. The GymDogs finished ahead of the Crimson Tide in the NCAA Semifinal with a score of 196.6875- 196.6250.

IOWA STATE SERIES HISTORY Georgia leads the all-time series against Iowa State by a 10-0 tally. The teams met twice during the 2008 season, including the regular season finale in Athens and NCAA Regionals. The GymDogs finished ahead of the Cyclones both times with scores of 196.750 and 197.775, respectively.

BEST OPENING MEET SCORE SINCE 2007 The GymDogs opened the 2019 season with a 196.600 against Ohio State, which is the highest score to start the season since 2007. That year Georgia went 31-2-1 and won the program’s third-consecutive national championship.

GYMDOGS SHINE ON VAULT AT OKLAHOMA Georgia looked strong on vault at Oklahoma, posting a 49.300 for the event. Five GymDogs improved their vault scores from last week’s season opener, and freshman Mikayla Magee made her vault lineup debut scoring a 9.800 in the lead off position. Fellow freshman Abbey Ward matched that score. Juniors Sabrina Vega and Rachel Dickson scored a paired of 9.825’s and the momentum continued from there. SEC Freshman of the Week Rachael Lukacs earned her first collegiate 9.900 and senior Sydney Snead matched her career-high 9.950 in the anchor position. Oklahoma posted a 49.525 on bars.

The score of 49.300 is the second highest vault score under second-year head coach Courtney Kupets Carter.

A NEW FIRE A team that competed five gymnasts on three events 21 times throughout the 2018 season, has added tremendous depth to the 2019 lineup with nine freshmen and five returners, four of which earned All-American accolades a season ago.

After ending the 2018 season with a seventh-place finish, the GymDogs are hopeful to get back there and finish in the top three.

As Rachel Dickson put it: “I wouldn’t deny us.”

THE WOW FACTOR Alexa Al-Hameed has a release on bars that sends a packed Stegeman Coliseum into “ohh”s and “ahh”s.

According to Sabrina Vega, “I have never seen a more beautiful release in my life, and I still get that feeling every time I see her.”

RACHAEL LUKACS NAMED SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK After making her debut in Stegeman Coliseum to open the season, University of Georgia gymnast Rachael Lukacs has been named the Southeastern Conference Gymnastics Freshman of the Week.

One of six freshmen to compete for the GymDogs, Lukacs is the only one to showcase routines on multiple events. She competed vault (9.825), bars (9.750), and floor (9.850) against Ohio State, contributing points to help the GymDogs to their best opening meet score since 2007 (196.600). The Hillsborough, New Jersey native finished only

SIX FRESHMAN MAKE STEGEMAN COLISEUM DEBUT Six of Georgia’s nine freshman on the 2019 roster made their Stegeman Coliseum debuts in the season opener against Ohio State on January 5th. Rachael Lukacs (9.825) and Abbey Ward (9.775) competed on vault before Lukacs (9.750) and Alexa Al-Hameed (9.800) swung on the bars. VEGA CONTINUTES THE MOONWALK Junior Sabrina Vega assumed the responsibility of taking over the Georgia moonwalk tradition on beam last season and will continue that this season. She is the sixth Gymdog to perform the moonwalk on the balance beam, following Nikki Childs, Cassidy McComb, Lindsey Cheek, Mary Beth Box, and Morgan Reynolds.

DICKSON INHERITS KUPETS’ VAULT Junior Rachel Dickson will perform the vault that head coach Courtney Kupets Carter did as a GymDog- a yurchenko half on front pike.

Courtney Kupets Carter was named the eighth head coach of the Georgia GymDogs in May of 2017, nine years after completing the most illustrious career in NCAA gymnastics history.

In her first year as head coach, Kupets Carter led the GymDogs to a seventh place overall ranking. Ranked No. 18 heading into postseason, Georgia received the third seed at the Tuscaloosa Regional. The GymDogs scored a 196.500, behind only Alabama, to advance to the NCAA National Championship Semifinals in St. Louis. Under her direction, Sydney Snead (vault), Marissa Oakley (bars), Rachel Dickson (bars), and Sabrina Vega (floor) claimed NCAA First Team All-America honors.

Over the course of the regular season, the GymDogs brought in an average of 10,102 fans per meet, the highest number in program history. This breaks the attendance record of 10,055 set in 2017 and ranks fourth-best in the nation, behind Utah, LSU, and Alabama. The GymDogs are closest to reaching capacity at their facility as Stegeman Coliseum holds a capacity of 10,284.

Additionally, in her first year at the helm, Georgia Gymnastics made history with the highest annual donations to the Gymnastics Endowment Fund, raising a record $235,000, also marking the highest number of season tickets sold in a single season.

In her four years as a GymDog from 2006 to 2009, with one season missed due to injury, Kupets Carter won four team national championships, eight SEC event championships, nine individual NCAA titles and was a 15-time All-American. She was Team MVP in 2006 and 2009, and won the Honda Award in 2007 and 2009. Kupets Carter holds the distinction of being the first gymnast to win individual championships on all four events and the all-around title.

Kupets Carter, Georgia’s only Honda Broderick Cup award winner, also excelled in the classroom with two CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-America honors and was the recipient of the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

Kupets Carter is married to Chris Carter. The couple has three children: daughters Brooklyn (December 2015) and Savannah (December 2018), and a son, Bentley (June 2017).
