Geotechnical investigation work
Department of Regional NSW (Regional NSW) staff or contractors will be carrying out Geotechnical field investigations as part of infrastructure planning and development work. This fact sheet provides information about the process.
Background
Regional NSW staff or contractors may need to carry out field investigations for the development of concept designs to plan infrastructure development for the Snowy Mountains Special Activation Precinct.
Access may be required to a small number of private properties on or near a proposed site. All property owners are notified if access to a property is required, usually by a phone call and/or letter.
Notification letters are sent to the legal owner of the property only. If tenants are on the property, owners should agree with the tenant what date and time access to the property will occur.
Field investigation teams always carry identification. Property owners or tenants have the right to ask to see this identification. Cars entering a property should also have identification.

Geotechnical field investigation work
Field investigations allow Regional NSW to collect information to plan potential infrastructure development projects.
Work may include
• Vehicles entering a property and teams setting up equipment
• Non-intrusive survey work
• Drilling and backfilling of small boreholes
• Pit excavation and backfilling
• Monitoring well installation
Equipment used will include a drilling rig, 20 tonne excavator, backhoe, support trucks, float trucks, light vehicles and handheld equipment.
Potential impacts to nearby residents may include minor truck movements along public roads, noise from drilling and excavation works, and increased pedestrian walking time if walking along a private road owned by Highview Estate (behind the sports centre).
The field investigations team is required to restore the site as close to its original condition as possible.

When will the work take place?
The planned investigative work will take place from 1–25 June 2021. Hours of work will be 7:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday. There may be possible truck movements and unloading of equipment on weekends.
