LEGACY GIVING CONGRATULATIONS ZUMC!!! Because of your generosity we reached the goal to receive the $5000.00 matching donation to our new Legacy Endowment. Your continued support will only increase our future benefits. Gifts to this endowment ensures ZUMC thrives beyond our lifetime so continue to give whenever you can. Please indicate “Legacy” on your donation.
At our Nov. 11th blood drive we were able to have 10 donors give blood. Thank you to everyone for their support. To those who were not able to give, they can go by the Vitalant Blood Services Center on One Calais (Formerly United Blood Services) to donate. Just let them know that you are donating for Zachary UMC. Remember, our donations save lives. Our next drive will be in the spring.
God bless, Vince
Member SpotlightVince Giaccone is a Christian man who walks and talks
his faith daily. We are blessed to have him as part of
our church and community. Vince first married
Deborah Neely and had a daughter Brandi Giaccone
Patterson and a son Jason Giaccone by that marriage. In
October 1983, he married Rhenda Newson, and they
have a son Benjamin Giaccone and a daughter
Katherine Giaccone Templeton. Vince proudly added
he has five grandchildren as well.
His wife Rhenda's family attended Baker United
Methodist Church for many years. Vince attended
with her; however, when her father died in 1990, and
the family moved to Zachary. Because of the move, he
started looking for a church in Zachary. His first visit thhere was in October 1990, on Heritage Sunday's 100
Anniversary of its founding. He remembers the tent,
the music, but most of all the friendly members. They
liked it and accepted the invitation to come back. The
family continued attending and transferred their
membership here on Palm Sunday of 1999.
His first volunteer serve was on the Church Council,
which he later Chaired. Next, Vince served as an
alternate Usher. Soon, he ushered full time under Ken
McKnight and in 2018, he began coordinating the
ushers when Ken was unable to attend church full time.
In 2009, Hal White suggested Vince contact Steven
Hebert at Live Oak United Methodist regarding a
useful ministry that their church provided its members.
After learning about how the program worked, Vince
recommended starting the program to the
administrative Council. It was approved, and Vince
coordinates the program like a well-oiled machine to
the benefit of members, and occasionally local citizens
alike. ZUMC established G.L.O.V.E.S., which stands
for: Giving*Living*Obeying*Venturing*Embracing
*Serving God's people
Vince retired from Exxon on April 1, 2012 where he
coordinated the Exxon Blood Drive for twenty years.
He saw a need to help in two areas where long-time
coordinators needed help. Charles and Sherri Devall
coordinated ZUMC support of the Zachary Food Bank for
many years. Vince began helping them by coordinating
monthly collections of food and recycled grocery bags and
now he spends several hours a week doing what needs to be
done.
Betty Hodges was the coordinator of the church's Blood
Drive for several years, and she was looking for someone
else to head the ZUMC Blood Drive. Vince volunteered to
coordinate the Blood Drive and he now coordinates the
program.
Vince, the Browning father and son, and couple other men
were instrumental in reactivating the Methodist Men's
Group. Members are do wonderful things for our church.
They are also super stars at raising money for various needs
within ZUMC.
Vince likes the outdoors, but does not hunt, and he likes
water, but does not fish. What he does well, is volunteer his
services where he sees a need. We are a better church for
having Vince Giaccone as a member and friend in this
church.
If you would like to place flowers in honor or memory of someone on a special Sunday during the year we will have the flower
calendar out in the foyer for you to sign up. cost is $65.00.

Praying for Unity
Every January, the Christian church worldwide marks the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This ecumenical “octave,” or eight-day observance, lasts from January 18 (the Feast of St. Peter) to January 25 (the Feast of St. Paul).
The week is based on Jesus’ prayer to his heavenly Father in John 17:21 that his followers “may all be one … so that the world may believe that you have sent me” (ESV). Jesus knew that if Christians were fiercely divided, people outside the faith wouldn’t want to learn more about him.
The theme for the 2019 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is from Deuteronomy 16:20 (NRSV): “Justice, and only justice, you shall pursue.”
We are always looking for voices to join the choir. We meet on Tuesday nights at 7:00 PM. Join us in the Music Building for practice beginning January 8th!
A special thank you to Val for all of her hard work preparing the delicious meals each week. If you have not been attending our Wednesday Night Dinners, you sure are missing out. Come join us at 6 PM Wednesday!
