afety is a critical part of our industry and has been a fundamental part of Aristeo’s culture since our founding in 1977. Our culture of safety encourages all members of our team to constantly strive for the nothing less than excellence, which we achieve by working with our

customers to ensure we are exceeding their safety expectations.

The Aristeo Safety Team worked extensively with our customers over the last year, and was invited to speak at multiple customer events about our innovative and successful safety program. Our team spoke at Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and DTE Energy events in 2019, on a variety of topics including our Safety Trained Supervisor Construction certification program and Jobsite Drone Safety. We also invited a customer, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, to speak at our own Annual Safety Kickoff this year and discuss how safety ties into the Toyota culture. To learn more about this event and what Toyota spoke about, see page 12.

We were thrilled to work with our customers at these events and are proud of the reputation the Aristeo Safety Program has earned. In addition, we’re also excited by the successes we’ve seen over the last year. Throughout 2019 we made strong progress on our safety initiatives and were awarded with multiple new safety awards from our customers (which we’ve highlighted in previous newsletters).

Thank you to our entire team for helping us achieve the excellent safety reputation we have today, and thank you to our customers for the recognition and collaboration. We pledge to continue our commitment to safety excellence, and will ensure that we keep all of our employees, suppliers, and customers safe and healthy on the job.

PREPARING FOR PRODUCTION CHANGEOVERSFord’s MAP complex is a critical operation for Ford that boasts an output of approximately 68 vehicles per hour, and includes the Michigan Assembly Plant, Wayne Assembly Plant, Body Shop, Paint Shop, and Stamping Plant facilities. Since Aristeo began working at the MAP complex, our team has helped the plant transition between multiple product lines, including the Ford Focus/C-Max Program Launch in 2011-12, the Ford Ranger Program Launch in 2018-19, and the current Ford Bronco Program Launch.

Aristeo’s changeover work in the plant has a goal of zero production downtime – oftentimes requiring work to be completed over the holidays during scheduled plant shutdowns. In order to meet these tight deadlines, Aristeo regularly employs hundreds of personnel to work multiple shifts in the plant.

For the recent Bronco Program Launch, Aristeo has been contracted for approximately 100 projects to date, totaling $17 Million across 2019

and 2020. This program is still ongoing with additional work anticipated this year, as well as a projected 3,000-5,000 additional safety orientations. The projects for this program include building facility upgrades, exterior site work, interior renovations, plant expansions, railway modifications, equipment installation, and preventative maintenance. In addition, many projects have been executed on non-production shifts and weekends to lessen the impact to the plant’s manufacturing operations.

During the Ford Ranger Program Launch, Aristeo was contracted for approximately 200 projects totaling $32 Million over an 18 month period from 2018-2019. Throughout this program, Aristeo conducted over 4,600 safety orientations in the same time frame. The projects that we performed include selective demolition, abatement services, exterior site work, building facility upgrades, beautification/interior renovations, plant expansions, railway modifications, process equipment installation, and preventative maintenance.

As part of the Ranger Program Launch, Aristeo was also contracted to construct a Frame Dryer

In 2019, the Aristeo team poured new concrete for the Michigan Assembly Plant’s frame yard. The project also included updated lighting across the frame yard.

Aristeo’s work at the Michigan Assembly Plant has included installation of pits for production line changes.

Building Addition. For this project, Ford needed frame delivery to be integrated into the main product line. Aristeo coordinated closely with the building facility team and the equipment manufacturers to execute this project according to the needs of multiple Ford Business Units. Aristeo also self performed multiple services including concrete/civil work, steel fabrication and installation, and millwright services. There were also exterior pavement, exterior lighting, and railway improvements needed for the frame yard.

AS NEEDED SERVICES FOR A VARIETY OF PROJECTSIn addition to the major product changeovers, maintaining a presence at MAP allows Aristeo

to be available for a wide variety of work at a moment’s notice. Aristeo’s presence at MAP also allows for ease of mobilization, improved resource scheduling, improved project timing, and provides a convenient single point of contact for many projects onsite. These projects include regular facility maintenance, situations that require rapid response teams, and site safety orientations for all non-Ford personnel. For these projects, Ford collaborates with Aristeo on project costs, plant impact, planning, and viability. This work often includes:

• Building Additions/Expansions

• Truck Dock Installations and Modifications

• Structural and Miscellaneous Steel Fabrication and Installation

Aristeo was excited to receive the Michigan Concrete Association (MCA) Michigan Award of Excellence for our work at the Ford Motor Company Vehicle Performance & Electrification Center (VPEC). This award goes to concrete projects that showcase excellence in design and construction, and recognizes the entire project team inclusive of the project owner, contractor, and engineer.

The Ford VPEC project was chosen because of Aristeo’s success with overcoming a number of planning/scheduling and materials-related challenges, but also because of the complex concrete construction that Aristeo executed to the highest standards.

This project included three connected buildings, one of which contains a next-generation aerodynamic wind tunnel, a state of the art rolling road system, and a traversing measurement system. The wind tunnel building was constructed via many unique concrete pours that required Aristeo’s expertise to execute successfully. This included radius, pitched, and curved concrete sections, suspended decks, pitched suspended decks, cast-in-place concrete walls, and two

concrete box beams that suspended the 200,000-pound traversing system over 50 feet in the air. One of the walls was a 48-foot-tall wall with a 28-foot octagon box out that transitions to a 36 foot rectangle shape and included over 2,000 linear feet of cast-in-place concrete wall.

Aside from the complex concrete situations, Aristeo’s team also worked with the entire project team to overcome several unique challenges, including coordination of many project teams and their unique schedules across the jobsite, space and equipment availability, concrete availability, range of concrete mix designs, and incredibly strict tolerances necessary for the wind tunnel facility.

The Aristeo project team was thrilled to accept the award at the MCA 2020 Winter Conference on February 13th. Also at the event, Aristeo hosted a breakout session where we provided an overview of the project and answered questions from an audience of more than 100 people. Special thanks to our project team, our owner and engineer partners, and the other contractors on the jobsite for assisting with the execution of such a successful project.

Aristeo has been onsite at the new Mazda Toyota Manufacturing facility in Huntsville, Alabama since late 2018, performing a myriad of projects at the jobsite. Not long after completing the foundations package for the facility, Aristeo was selected as general contractor for one of the three main buildings onsite - the stamping press and weld building. In addition, Aristeo is also providing steel fabrication and erection services for multiple other buildings across the four square mile site.

CONSTRUCTING THE STAMPING PRESS AND WELD BUILDINGFor the construction of the 1,025,000 square foot stamping press and weld building, Aristeo

coordinated closely with the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing team on scheduling, manpower availability, and onsite logistics. Aristeo oversaw 13 subcontractors and seven major suppliers to provide mechanical / plumbing, electrical, fire protection, siding, roofing, joint sealants, painting, masonry, carpentry, and underground utility, sanitary, storm water, and ductwork services. The project included more than 33,000 linear feet of cable tray, 52,000 linear feet of mechanical piping, and 216 helicopter picks to install 27 HVAC units.

standards of FF 50 and FL 33. Aristeo also fabricated and installed nearly 900 tons of miscellaneous steel throughout the space. This project is set to be completed in 2020 and by its end will log more than 350,000 manhours.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES FOR PAINT SHOP, GENERAL ASSEMBLY/QUALITY CONTROL, & OTHER BUILDINGSIn addition to our work as general contractor for the site foundations package and the construction of the stamping press and weld building, Aristeo has also worked with other contractors including Eutaw Construction, Force Construction Company, Kajima Building & Design Group, and TKS Industrial Company.

Aristeo provided a variety of steel fabrication and erection services to these contractors including both structural and process steel. This work has been for the paint shop, general assembly/quality control, administration, audit, and electrical buildings, as well as the facility’s sluice gates and tank farm. To date, Aristeo has installed or erected more than 2,400 tons of miscellaneous steel for these additional projects. The majority of this steel was also fabricated in house by Aristeo.

This new Mazda Toyota Manufacturing facility will play an important role in the Alabama economy, as it will have the capacity to build 300,000 vehicles per year and will create up to 4,000 new jobs. Aristeo values our relationship with Mazda Toyota Manufacturing and is excited about our ongoing work at this facility, which is expected to be ready for vehicle production by 2021.

RECOMMITTING TO SAFETY FOR 2020More than 300 Aristeo employees gathered together for Aristeo’s Annual Safety Kickoff on Saturday, January 18th. We host this event each year as a way to celebrate and reaffirm our corporate and individual commitments to safety. Our Safety Kickoff is an important part of our safety program, providing a dedicated time for us to review last year’s safety successes and make new safety goals for 2020.

Throughout the day we encouraged our employees to think about why a safe workplace is important to them, and also asked them to pledge to follow safety best practices throughout the upcoming year. As part of this exercise, we invited our team to sign a special “Everyone Goes Home” banner as part of their 2020 safety commitment.

In addition to our traditional safety topics, we were excited to host two guests from Toyota Motor Manufacturing: Greg Laskey, Toyota’s Vice President of Purchasing Supplier Development, and Eric Doll, Toyota’s General Manager of Purchasing Supplier Development. Both Laskey and Doll spoke about how Toyota approaches safety and how Aristeo has an

impact in their facilities. They discussed how safety is incorporated into The Toyota Way and the importance of Mendomi, their workplace philosophy of showing care for others, within the Toyota culture. Both speakers emphasized the importance of safety and how it relates to respecting people, no matter who they are.

“We don’t feel that safety stops with Toyota and our team members,” Laskey explained. “We don’t see a barrier between us and our supplier partners. … Because going to work and feeling safe is something everyone should have.”

Laskey also ended with some kind words regarding Aristeo’s commitment to safety: “You work for an industry leading organization in Aristeo that cares very deeply about you, your team members, and your safety.”

Thank you to both Greg Laskey and Eric Doll from Toyota for taking the time to attend our Safety Kickoff. A special thank you, however, to all of our employees who attended the event and pledged themselves to another year of pursuing safety excellence.

Project Engineer Buddly Staszkiewicz is one of hundreds of employees who signed our “Everyone Goes Home” banner as a way of physically pledging their commitment to safety for the upcoming year.

Aristeo values innovative project methodologies and is always striving for a better, safer, and more efficient way to provide customers our high quality services. One way we do that is encouraging our employees to stay on the cutting edge of the industry through industry conferences and events. In February of this year, Aristeo sent nearly two dozen of our field and project management team members to the World of Concrete conference in Las Vegas.

World of Concrete provided our team an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest and greatest concrete technology, as well as participate in educational sessions. Our team attended sessions that ranged from project management and scheduling, communication,

safety, concrete basics, and how to manage concrete pours in a variety of weather conditions. They also networked with other professionals in the industry and investigated the new technology and methodologies that were on display at the expo.

Conferences like the World of Concrete are only one example of how Aristeo encourages our employees to develop innovative means and methodologies. We also offer our employees an in-house training program, Aristeo University, with classes on project management, skilled trades, and more. This program, combined with industry events, allows Aristeo to constantly improve the high quality services we provide our customers.

FIVE YEARS OF BEST & BRIGHTEST COMPANIES TO WORK FOR IN THE NATIONFor the fifth year in a row, Aristeo is excited to have received the Best & Brightest Companies to Work For In The Nation award! This award comes on the heels of our fifth Metropolitan Detroit’s Best & Brightest Companies To Work For, and recognizes companies who excel in employee enrichment, work/life balance, communication, and more. Both of these awards are awarded to companies based on surveys of their own employees.

LEARNING CUTTING EDGE METHODOLOGIES AT WORLD OF CONCRETE 2020

More than two dozen Aristeo employees attended this year’s World of Concrete event, learning about the latest and greatest in concrete technology.
