IfindithardtobelievethatourannualmeetingisalreadyhereanditistimetoreviewallofthegreatthingsyourUnitedWayhasdoneforourcommunityinthepastyear. OurEndowmenteventattheMaritimeMuseuminFebruarysawover100supportersgathertoenjoyartworkmadebyvolunteers.Fundsraisedfromthiseventareputintoourendowmentfundandeachyearweallow5%oftheyearendbalancetobedonatedtowardsprogramsthatarehelpingothersinourcommunity.OneofthegrantswastotheBackpackBuddyProgramwhichsendshomehealthysnackstochildrenonweekends;thisisfacilitatedthroughthelocalgradeschools.OurDayofActiononSaturday,June19th,broughtover70volunteerstogethertohelpnon-profitsinourareawithSpringcleanuporotheritemsthatneededdoingattheirsites. TheFamilyWizeprescriptiondrugcard’songoingsuccesshasputover$380,000ofprescriptiondrugsavingsbackintothecommunitysinceitsrollouttwentyeightmonthsago. TheMinistryFallGolfClassiccamebackinfullswing!TheweatheronSeptember13thwasperfectandHorseshoeBaywastheidealsettingtowelcome100golferswhoenjoyed18holesofgolf,lunchanddinner.OurYouthBoardmemberssprangintoactionduringcampaignandworkedwiththeSturgeonBayStudentCounciltodonate$500raisedbyatalentshowatthehighschool. Octoberbroughtour10thAnnualChefsforaDayEvent.Over80peopleenjoyedtheculinarytalentoflocalvolunteerchefsandenjoyedbiddingonthemanysilentauctionitems.ARoofSitbyafewofourBoardmembersona(thankfully)beautifuldayinNovemberraisedmoneyandawarenessinthearea.ThankstoWDORwhoputustheairatvarioustimesduringthedaytohelpgetthewordout.ThanksalsotoAssociatedBankforallowingustoperchontheirroofforoverninehoursinanefforttosurpassthegoalof$10,000! ThisyearweonceagainpresentedaYouthScholarshiptoalocalhighschoolsenior.InworkingwithBrownandKewauneeCountiesandHELPofDoorCountytotransitiontoanew211informationandreferralline.Whew…ithasbeenabusyyear! Howdidwemanagetodoallofthis?ItisallbecauseofYOU!Asmanyofyouknow,we’reinthemidstofcelebratingour50thyearofbeingapartoftheDoorCountyCommunity.Thefundsyoudonate,thevolunteerhoursyougive,andyourunderstandingofhowimportantitistohaveasuccessfulUnitedWayprograminyourcommunitywillallowustocontinuetomakeDoorCountyabetterplacetolive,work,andplay!
