Borecka Scope and Content of Collection Contains case files relating to individuals tried in British military courts for war crimes committed in Europe during World War II. Included are cases about crimes in Bergen‐Belsen, Auschwitz, Neuengamme, Hadamar, and Ravensbrück, Loibl Pass work camp, Gross Rosen concentration camp, and Lefitz Children’s hostel. The files contain daily transcripts of court proceedings, court exhibits, and prosecution and defense summations. Proceedings of war crimes trial of 2 staff members of a hostel for the illegitimate (and otherwise) children of Eastern workers in the area of Lefitz. The accused were charged with ill‐treating Russian and Polish child inmates resulting in the death of 9 children between 1944‐1945. Groenitz was convicted for

the charge, but the court found that the children did not die as a result of her actions or neglect. As a result, she was sentenced to 6 months. The other accused was found not guilty. Although conditions at the hostel were abhorrent, the accused could not be found guilty because no medical evidence was called to show how the children died.
