Citation preview
During the past nine years, Rafiki Surgical Missions continues to change the lives of more and more Tanzanian children and adults with conditions such as cleft lips, cleft palates and burn injuries. For each mission, an eight-person volunteer team composed of surgeons, anesthetists and nurses from Western Australia volunteer their time and expertise to come to Tanzania to perform life changing operations over a course of 10 days.
It is because of this spirit of volunteerism that, to date, more than 1,000 lives of chil-dren and adults have been positively affected by these missions. Our first surgical mission for 2012 took place from 13th - 27th April 2012 at Sekou Toure Hospital in Mwanza. During the mission over 50 patients received surgical procedures for repairs to cleft lip and palate and burn scar contractures.
The next and final mission for 2012 will be taking place from 28th October – 8th November at Sekou Toure Hospital in Mwanza. Currently, with the assistance of Afri-can Barrick Gold & Geita Gold Mine, patients are being mobilized from remote communities around Tanzania. The missions also welcome pa-tients from other areas in the country who would require the surgeries.
A big thank you to all our past, present and future Rafiki supporters that continue to make these missions possible and a success.
