Thanks to your generous donations, we are able to open new doors of opportunity for our community. Each donation is a key to opening a door that can give a child access to a quality education, provide safe housing for a family in need, or allow an elderly resident to maintain an indepedent life. When you contribute to the United Way Community Fund, you never know what door of opportunity you may be unlocking. Thank you for providing the keys to supporting health and human service needs in York County.

The Tocqueville Society represents an integral part of the overall campaign efforts in York County. This past year was a challenging fundraising environment given the volatility of the economy and financial markets. However, the Tocqueville Cabinet and Ambassadors worked hard under the strong leadership of 2015 Chair Linda Davidson to realize a Tocqueville Society of 97 members.

This year we have a adopted a Tocqueville theme called “Invest In Where You Live” to inspire those who are more fortunate in our area to help deliver aid to the quality programs that assist our area’s residents with basic education, income and health needs. Our personal involvement with the United Way has clearly shown us the importance of these efforts to improve of the lives of so many throughout our community.

We thank all the Tocqueville members for their tremendous support of the campaign at this highest category of giving, as well as the volunteer Cabinet members for their time and energy with strategic vision and fundraising. Clearly the Tocqueville Society plays an integral part in the United Way’s crucial role in delivering aid to those in need.

You are a leader on the team that makes great things happen!

With much appreciation,

Allison Siegelman, Chair W. Robert Berkebile, Vice Chair Community Volunteer Partner - Tax Services Group Reinsel Kuntz Lesher LLP

The Tocqueville Society Cabinet members provide the essential leadership and oversight of policy, messaging, events and strategic planning throughout the annual campaign. These volunteers are critical to the Society’s continued growth and tremendous impact throughout our community.

2015 was another successful year for the United Way’s annual campaign and the First Capital Club. We were extremely excited to welcome 166 new First Capital Club members in 2015 – thank you, and welcome to those of you who stepped up your giving to join the ranks of United Way’s top contributors. We would also like to thank the 386 returning First Capital Club members who increased their contribution over the previous year!

Your generosity equates to $1.54M raised for the annual campaign, representing 23.6% of the $6.54M raised in 2015. Give yourselves a round of applause for your generosity and a job well done!

I’m often asked why I give to the United Way. My answer is simple – because it is the right thing to do. Like many of you, I have been blessed with a wonderful support network of family and friends, a comfortable home to live in, and a great job that allows me to live a very good life. We know there are many people in our community who are not as fortunate. Giving to the United Way is my way of paying it forward. It is simply the right thing to do!

As we go into the 2016 campaign, the Leadership Giving Council has a challenge for you: we want your help in recruiting new members to the First Capital Club. For less than $20 a week (the cost of a couple of lunches or a few draft beers) your friends and coworkers can become leadership givers. This $20 a week could support an individual through Penn-Mar’s entire Customized Community Employment program, which assists individuals with special needs to secure jobs in the community. I am proud to tell you that one of my fellow GIG associates is part of this great program. This $20 a week could give 60 preschool children access to vision screenings by ForSight Vision. Ask yourself which is more important, the lunch or beer or helping those less fortunate?

Please join me in building a First Capital Club TEAM THAT MAKES GREAT THINGS HAPPEN in York County!

What a tremendous year Women Living United has had! 2015 stands as a testament to the remarkable power a group of passionate and diverse women have to engage, educate, and empower others to become the leaders and advocates needed to bring forth change in our community. As a group, we have invested our time, our talent, and our financial resources to improving the lives of our York County friends and neighbors. I cannot wait to see what 2016 has in store for this amazing group of Women Living United.

I am proud and honored to have served another year as the Chair of the Women Living United (WLU) Steering Committee. These dynamic women have put their whole hearts into planning inspiring events and creating meaningful opportunity for our members to network, volunteer, mentor, and develop leadership skills.

The second year of Interviews with Inspiring Women was another tremendous achievement for WLU. Once again, the three-part series featured three remarkable women in our community: Jean Treuthart (CEO, YWCA York), Dr. Barbara Rupp (Superintendent of South Western School District), and Jody Kelly (Jody Keller LLC). These women inspired our members and guests by sharing their journeys, their challenges, and the lessons they’ve learned along the way. The honest openness of the conversational style interviews cultivated anopportunity for those in attendance to connect with the interviewees and share their personal thoughts. Each event also highlighted a United Way Partner Agency and the great work being done in the community thanks to the generous contributes made by WLU members and other community donors.

The WLU mentoring program was launched this year, giving select members the chance to share their personal experiences and professional expertise with local female college students. Mentors represented their professional industry at the Penn State York Career Networking Event. During the spring semester, mentors met monthly with York College students enrolled in the York Community Opportunity Scholarship program, a program designed to prepare a group of York City youth as future business and professional leaders for the York community.

WLU members also spent time giving back to the community by working with United Way partner agencies. WLU remained engaged with the Crispus Attucks Association’s GREAT program by preparing a Dinner Party to share and celebrate with the young ladies of the house, and members donated close to 100 personal care items during the Annual Membership Celebration. In addition, members had the opportunity to connect with Bell Socialization and Children’s Advocacy Center during the United Way Day of Action.

The year drew to a close with York County artists, Adrienne Brenner, Ophelia Chambliss, and Marion Stephenson, as the featured guests of the annual Membership Celebration. With over 100 women in attendance, members and perspective members had the opportunity to hear the inspiring stories of these vibrant artists and share in their journeys as aspiring female artists.

The power and influence of women in philanthropy was evident in the growth of giving and membership this year. Women Living United saw an 18% increase in membership (240 members) and a giving increase of 30% ($337,498). All this could not have been possible without the generous donations of our local businesses, with a special gratitude going to BB&T for its Title Sponsorship.

Women Living United members continue to demonstrate through their investments of time, talent, and financial resources what it truly means to Live United. Please join us in what is destined to be another great year!

The goal of the Emerging Leaders Society is to reach the next generation of York County’s leaders and connect them to the United Way through a variety of events that provide a connection to community leaders. The Emerging Leaders Society’s 386 members contributed $263,928 to the 2015 campaign – an increase of nearly 10%. Another impressive statistic is that 220 of our returning members increased their gift over the prior year – that’s over 57%. Bottom line, 2015 was a great year for the Emerging Leaders Society!

Having been a part of the Emerging Leaders Society Steering Committee for the past six years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with so many great people. I’d like to offer a heartfelt “Thank You” to all of the Steering Committee members who have committed their time, talent and resources in order to plan great volunteer, educational, leadership development, and networking events for the ELS membership. It has been an honor to serve as the committee Chair for the past two years. I’d also like to thank Leigh Ann Wilson for her willingness to serve as the next ELS Chair. I know great things are in store for the Emerging Leaders Society in the next year!

Thank you to all of the returning ELS members for your continued support, and welcome to all new ELS members! Your generosity is most appreciated!

A Message From the Emerging Leaders Society Chair

Introducing the 2016-2018 ELS Chair, Leigh Ann Wilson

MANTEC holds an annual one-day United Way campaign. As the email described, “it is the one time of the year which we ask you to consider giving back to those less fortunate.” I aptly filled out my payroll deduction form for the 2008 campaign and have been giving ever since.

As I grew in my position and in the community, I found the Emerging Leaders Society to meet my goals of personal and professional development and community giving. As I take the reins of ELS Chair I am honored to be following the great leaders before me and look forward to working with and developing the leaders of our future.

The Emerging Leaders Society engages United Way’s next generation of philanthropists in our work throughout the community by conducting networking, volunteer and professional development opportunities for the membership. Emerging Leaders are those individuals between the ages of 21-40 who make a contribution of $250 or more to the annual campaign, and are looking to make a long-lasting, positive impact in our community. Last year, 387 ELS members contributed over $260,000 to the 2015 Campaign.
