He states, “One of the best ways to be intentional about being a ‘disciple of Jesus Christ’ is by inten- tionally following someone that is becoming or is already where we desire to be in Christ. This is practicing intentional discipleship. It is finding those that can be your mentor so that you may become their apprentice. No one becomes a mature disciple of Christ by accident. It is an exercise of the will.” The conference celebrated saving lives through our two year Imagine No Malaria Mission Focus. According to the 2017 Imagine No Malaria Impact Overview: It is estimated that 6.8 million deaths from malaria have been averted since 2001; Globally, over 6 million United Methodists accepted the challenge to raise funds. Together we have provided over 4 million mos- quito nets; renovated 61 facilities; treated over 2.7 million people with ma- laria; protected over 175,000 structures with indoor residual spraying; trained thousands of community health workers and volunteers. Our own Rev. Mattie Gibson delivered a moving sermon during the service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance. From May 29, 2017 to May 6, 2018, 19 clergy and 20 clergy spouses graduated into their eternal Heavenly Home. 24 retirees were honored with a celebration service. The service of Ordina- tion and Commissioning recognized Rev. Ricky Reece and 1 other person as Associate Members. There were 13 persons recognized as Commission- ing Members and 13 persons were ordained as Elders. At the end of the service, 6 persons accepted the Call to ministry. Praise God! In July, 2018, the Council of Bishops will suggest 3 plans to go forward on the issue of ordaining homosexuals. In February of 2019, the General Con- ference will vote on 1 of the 3 plans or may suggest something entirely dif- ferent. Let us be in constant prayer for God’s Will to be accomplished. The highlight and surprise of Annual Conference is when Bishop Swanson announced appointments for the up-coming year. I was completely con- fused when Bro. Tom did not go onto the stage to be recognized as District Superintendent for the Senatobia District. When all appointments were rec- ognized, Bishop Swanson asked that Tom and Shannon come to the front of the auditorium. He told us of the very recent Glory Sighting event in Tom and Shannon’s life. Bro. Tom said that God had called him to go and serve the Louisville United Methodist Church. As God’s servants, Bro. Tom and Shannon accepted the call and the challenge. Please pray daily for our loved ones. We can hear Bro. Tom saying to his new congregation, “My name is Tom Potter. I am pastor of Louisville United Methodist Church where we are “making disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transforma- tion of the World. 2018 Annual Conference

Greetings in the Name of Jesus Christ! Thank you FUMC for the privilege of representing you as your 2018 lay member to the Mississippi Annual Conference held in Jackson, MS.

Our theme for this year was Apprenticeship: A Double Portion. Bishop James E. Swanson, Sr. read 2 Kings 2:7-14 (Common English Bible) as the text for his sermon on “Being Intentional”. He states, “One of the best ways to be intentional about being a ‘disciple of Jesus Christ’ is by inten-tionally following someone that is becoming or is already where we desire to be in Christ. This is practicing intentional discipleship. It is finding those that can be your mentor so that you may become their apprentice. No one becomes a mature disciple of Christ by accident. It is an exercise of the will.”

The conference celebrated saving lives through our two year Imagine No Malaria Mission Focus. According to the 2017 Imagine No Malaria Impact Overview: It is estimated that 6.8 million deaths from malaria have been averted since 2001; Globally, over 6 million United Methodists accepted the challenge to raise funds. Together we have provided over 4 million mos-quito nets; renovated 61 facilities; treated over 2.7 million people with ma-laria; protected over 175,000 structures with indoor residual spraying; trained thousands of community health workers and volunteers.

The service of Ordina-tion and Commissioning recognized Rev. Ricky Reece and 1 other person as Associate Members. There were 13 persons recognized as Commission-ing Members and 13 persons were ordained as Elders. At the end of the service, 6 persons accepted the Call to ministry. Praise God!

In July, 2018, the Council of Bishops will suggest 3 plans to go forward on the issue of ordaining homosexuals. In February of 2019, the General Con-ference will vote on 1 of the 3 plans or may suggest something entirely dif-ferent. Let us be in constant prayer for God’s Will to be accomplished.

The highlight and surprise of Annual Conference is when Bishop Swanson announced appointments for the up-coming year. I was completely con-fused when Bro.
