Adaptation is an ongoing project exploring the concept of designing flexible spaces to accommodate future change. This project has drawn inspiration from the history and remaining fabric of a site located in an old industrial and manufacturing area of Cincinnati. The narrative of once was and the concept of decay are focal elements. This project is also an exploration of process, centered on iteration as a means of working.

The ULI Hines Student Competition is a two week long urban design and development competition for graduate students. Participation requires that students create multidisciplinary teams of at least three disciplines to develop designs that include drawings, site plans, and market financial data.
Spring District Midtown: Igniting Urban Imaginations focused on leisure and play. Major economic generators for the City of Atlanta such as Georgia Tech and its Technology Square research campus, Emory University Medical Center, and creative thinkers from the nearby SCAD Atlanta campus are driving innovation that spawns ideas yearning to become new business ventures. The Spring District is a culmination of this energy, capitalizing on rapid growth, changing business needs, and the desire for unique urban amenities to help retain talented graduates and entrepreneurs in Atlanta’s urban core. The Spring District aims to truly Ignite the Urban Imagination.

The Atheneum is a conceptual architectural project for Columbus, Indiana. The goal for this project was to develop architectural details that integrate building systems, infrastructure and technology seamlessly. Program for the building consisted of a welcome center, auditorium, a permanent collection gallery, and artist-in-residence studio apartments.
Lighting was a crucial element to the design scheme. Light wells comprised of concrete protrude through the building, serving to carve out spaces for residents, as well as to provide natural illumination for the gallery below. The building was arranged using a 22-foot-module to work with standard material sizes.

In an era where water shortages are beginning to impact large populations in devastating ways, Lumi-Homes aim to reduce pervious surface run-off by collecting, storing and re-using excess rain water.
Each Lumi-Home is prefabricated, allowing for reduced construction costs and waste. Although Lumi-Homes are assembled from standard kits-of-parts, the units are customizable. A potential homeowner may select from a variety of water-conscious building elements that can be applied to the exterior elevations, allowing for unique, water-conscious housing at a more affordable price.
The conceptual site selected for the Turnbull Drylands Design Competition repurposed unused train tracks in Fresno, California. While each developable site will be different, the intent is that the Lumi-Homes will support and sustain public space. Water cores which collect and filter rainwater are located inside the buildings to supply greywater for each dwelling unit. Excess, retained water will be reused for park landscaping and agricultural purposes in the public space.

The focus of this capstone project was on the Cincinnati Streetcar. Currently, Phase I of a streetcar project is nearly completion. This first phase extends from The Banks waterfront downtown to Findlay Market in Over-the-Rhine. This project included the proposal of a connection to Uptown, the neighborhood that encompasses the University of Cincinnati campus north of downtown.
A hub or central location in which the streetcar lines can convene is envisioned to occur at the intersection of Vine Street, McMillan Avenue and Calhoun Street. In its current state, this site offers an entry sequence into Uptown that is less than ideal. The redevelopment of this area is intended to function as a catalyst for development as well as provide a more appropriate entry to the university neighborhood.

WA L N U T H I L L S R E I N V E S T M E N T P L A N2016 Spring: Professional Project - MKSK Studios
The consultant team of MKSK with Development Strategies was engaged in the fall of 2015 to develop a Master Plan with the Walnut Hills Redevelopment Foundation and the community.
The goals of the Reinvestment Plan were to create a targeted and action-oriented investment plan, pursue equitable urban neighborhood development, broaden socioeconomic opportunity, and leverage partnerships with organizations, institutions and neighborhood leaders.
Currently, the project is in the information gathering and analysis phase. Community meetings and outreach took place over the course of the two months, and a report documenting the information was created. Schematic development schemes will be developed based on the input from the neighborhood.
Personal responsibilities included participating in community engagement/outreach events, researching developments in similar neighborhood and documenting the results of both. Additional work included the schematic development of a site for a local developer.

Bellevue, Kentucky is a small that is located on the Ohio River. The waterfront site was re-imagined for a local developer. The City of Bellevue’s form-based code dictated muc of the urban form of the project. Building heights and set backs met the restrictions set forth by the local planning department. The concept of an urban inlet to allow for a shared community space was a key component in creating a place in the dew development. The project will include affordable and market rate housing, office and retail space, as well as a hotel.
Personal responsibilities included the creation and management of AutoCAD, Sketchup and Illustrator files. Responsibilities also included the production of presentations for the client and participation in client meetings.

Situated on a residential farm in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the Chicken Coop was designed to accommodate chickens, a swan and two geese. The design for the new structure was based upon a precedent found on a nearby farm property. The exterior of the building is comprised of multiple layers of construction, including a wood structure, cement board siding, and ipe lattice. Cedar shingles, half round dormer windows and a custom barn ventilator make up the intricate two-slope roof. The site for the Chicken Coop was carefully selected in collaboration with the farm owner. Thorough attention was granted to the design of the site in order to ensure that the birds would have adequate protection from predators. A five-foot tall ipe picket fence defines outdoor yards.
Personal responsibilities included the creation of construction documents and the management of the project through construction.

PAV I L I O N2013-2015: Professional Project - HBRA Architects
The second building of many projects for a residential farm in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the Pavilion serves as a covered, semi-enclosed viewing deck for an outdoor, horse-riding arena. The structure is composed of a concrete foundation and laminate veneer lumber, clad in opaque-stained cedar. A natural cedar shake roof, custom copper ridge vent and finials comprise the roof. Ipe decking, located on top of a copper mesh bug screen makes up the open floor. Large copper screens situated between cedar columns provide a nearly unobstructed view of the ridging arena. The site design included slight re-grading, blue stone gravel, brick pavers and a monolithic blue stone step. Personal responsibilities included the creation of initial conceptual drawings and renderings for presentation to the client, the formation of construction documents and the management of the project through construction.
