Global BusinessTASK 14: CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESSESThere is clearly a need to investigate the concept of Corporate Social responsibility and how it impacts on the management of international businesses, particularly in the light of the following:CSR can enhance a companys competitive advantage; Some forms of CSR, such as eco-efficiency or recycling, can actually reduce costs;CSR can be good for staff morale and motivation; andWhere CSR is also a proxy for competent management and associated qualities related to innovation, it can assist with the ability to anticipate and deal with risks, and learning and using knowledge effectively. There is clearly a need to investigate the concept of Corporate Social responsibility and how it impacts on the management of international businesses, particularly in the light of the following:Globalisation increases risks associated with CSR (e.g. labour conditions, environmental conditions, ethics, etc., as supply chains are more international, outsourcing increases etc.) and the company has to deal with multiple sets of stakeholdersCSR can sometimes be used, minimally, to greenwash a company, giving it the marketing appearance of CSR activity without this being the reality. There is also the danger that CSR is too broad a concept, meaning different things to different peopleThere are also issues over who the company has responsibility to- shareholders, additional stakeholders such as society and government, the balance between them and balances between economic, environmental and societal issues (the so-called triple bottom line)
