Global Encounters 2016 February 21st-28th
Global Encounters - 2016
1
Welcome to Global Encounters
God is on the move! Do you know it? Do you sense it? Can you see it? Because God is on the move in your life, your families, your neighborhoods, your workplaces, Derwood Alliance Church, your country, and the nations. God is calling you to be a part of his mission! This week as you jump into Global Encounters, you will get a taste of how God is on the move bringing light in the darkness and the good news that Jesus has not only come to rescue us but the world. There are many opportunities this week to hear and participate in what God is doing both here and abroad. So, prayerfully jump in this week and get ready for God to challenge you to pray, give, go, and send people on God’s mission. There is nothing greater than to be a part of God’s mission! Let’s go!

We are pleased to have Christian & Missionary Alliance worker Krista Ellenberger with us February 21-28. Krista received her call to ministry between her freshman and sophomore years of college. She was at Delta Lake Camp when God spoke to her about being an international worker through a person who was speaking on missions while she was there. She currently ministers with her husband, Keith, at the C&MA guest house in Bamako, Mali. Their ministry responsibilities include teaching English at the Go Global Mali Center, hosting visiting teams, and shopping for the needs of other international workers who are not stationed in the capital city. From this past term, two of the most exciting events that occurred were hosting a visiting team that ministered through providing healthcare and evangelism in the villages around the Women’s and Children’s hospital located in Kautiala, Mali and teaching English to Malians at the Go Global Mali Center. Joys of Ministry
Hosting visiting teams
Helping the hospital minister to others, therefore bringing new life both physically and spiritually
Blessings of Ministry
Attending the All Africa Field Forum in Spain with other colleagues Frustrations of Ministry
Seeing little fruit in various ministries because it takes a long time to build relationships
We are honored to have Krista with us for Global Encounters 2016, and join her in praying for these requests:
Separation as both she and her husband will be on separate assignments
Strength, perseverance, and good health
That enthusiasm for their overseas ministries will overflow so that those to whom she speaks will catch their vision for Mali
(Words and phrases in green can be found in the glossary on page 11).

Snapshots of the Christian & Missionary Alliance
Who We Are Our passion is not just knowing and following Jesus, but helping others know and follow Him. This begins with those God has placed in our spheres of influence and flows to those in other cultures who are searching desperately for meaning, significance, security, and love. What We Do We seek to exalt Christ by personally engaging in His mission, particularly with those who have critically low access to the gospel. As they respond, we pray that they will build Great Commission churches that will go to the remaining dark places of the world. How We Do It We are committed to expanding the reach of the gospel throughout the world by
Establishing new churches and communities of faith
Discipling new believers
Training new generations of church leaders
Providing critical medical care
Broadcasting the gospel over the airwaves
Helping those displaced by war and disaster
Digging clean-water wells in drought-stricken areas
Sharing the gospel with prison inmates
Restoring broken marriages
Establishing schools and hospitals
Providing career training for the unemployed
And much more We Love Our World Our U.S. family sends and supports over 700 Alliance international workers serving 70 nations. They care for the sick, befriend the lonely, and introduce spiritually impoverished people to the One who releases us all from the curse of sin and the sting of death.

How do we fund our missionary commitment? The way we fund missions is through faith promise giving, and during this week, you will receive a faith promise card for the DAC Missions Fund. We encourage you to “get in the game” and support workers from our church and Alliance workers worldwide as they walk through the doors God is opening. Derwood Alliance Church (DAC) Missions Fund is the vehicle we use to support our missionary commitment. The primary beneficiaries of the fund are the international workers of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA). A minimum of 90% of the money given to the DAC Missions Fund will be sent to the national office to support the international workers of the C&MA through the Great Commission Fund. Up to 10% will be used to support those from our church who have gone into missions or full time Christian service and to provide additional support to some C&MA international workers with whom we have a special relationship. These are individuals selected by the Missions Team and approved by the Board of Governance. This year those individuals are:
Jesse and Sarah Blaine
Jesse and Sarah are currently in Phnom Penh, Cambodia serving though World Orphans. With the help of the local church, World Orphans seeks to provide care for orphans and vulnerable children.
John and Kelly Kidd
While John is serving as Youth Pastor at their church, Kelly is serving though Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ) at James
Madison University where she reaches students through small group and discipleship ministries.
Craig and Bonnie Ward
Craig and Bonnie serve though InterVarsity Christian Fellowship to share
the gospel with international college students studying in schools throughout Illinois and Indiana.
