Parables Storytelling serves a purpose, such as communicating an important message or Insight. Through his parables, Jesus formed and transformed his disciples. Like all good stories, parables can teach important messages, encourage behaviors, and edify the listeners. By using images that are both familiar and surprising, parables also challenge the hearers to keep asking about the meaning of the story and what it says about their own lives. Storytelling was a powerful way in which Jesus proclaimed the good news of God’s kingdom. What stories in your family teach a lesson or an important truth? Can you create a new parable for teaching a lesson today?
SUMMER BACKYARD RETREAT, August 14 to 18. Come and spend some time with the God of all Creation. Our theme this year is "Finding The Good News In Today's World. We find that Good News by quieting ourselves, listening to God who speaks in and through Creation and through Silence. It is in that Silence we find the courage and the wisdom to act in our world to make it better. Come join us every morning at 6:30 to 8:30am. Signup on the sheets at the entrance to the Church.
It has been almost two weeks since I have started working for the St.Charles Housing Justice Team. The first week consisted of a training that helped us take a glimpse of what we would be doing as a team. It also consisted of a series of role plays that helped us develop our interviewing skills. Week 2 (or something like that) has been really good so far, we sat down to talk with Kathy Brown, and it went quite well. We have also been working on setting up a comfortable area for us to work in, that is also inviting to the people that are coming in to talk with us about housing justice and what we can do as a church in response. This week I have realized that teamwork is really important. Without David and Miley I would be a nervous train wreck in an interview. Thanks to them and Gabe I have learned that showing vulnerability is not always bad, it just shows a way for improvement and a way to develop new skills! I can’t wait for week 3! Last week the immigrant justice committee came to the parish after the Saturday and Sunday Masses. We asked you to fill out questionnaires to assess the gifts we possess as a church that could be used to respond to the needs of our immigrant brothers and sisters. The response was GREAT!! Over 20 people returned the questionnaire on Sunday and even more took them home to pray about it and return this week. The immigrant justice committee will continue to bring this questionnaire to the parish in order to allow everyone to fill it out. If you take a questionnaire home please feel free to drop it in the offertory basket upon return.
