Party in the Park: What’s it all about ?Party in the park is a combined music festival and family fun
day that has been held annually in the grounds of Kirkton
Park in Bathgate for the past 2 years, now were looking
forward to its 3rd year in September 2012. The event is
organised by a great team of people from the Friends of
Kirkton Park organisation and first started life as part of the
Bathgate Music Festival but is steadily growing to be an entity
in its own right and an event which is looked forward to by a
growing band of music lovers and parents looking for a great
day out.
The festival is a mixed bag with:
• LIVE music across 2 stages: 1 full band and 1 acoustic.
• Performance events throughout the day.
• Kids Fun areas with Bouncy Castles, Donkey rides,
Face Painting / Learning Activities / Pop Skool / Stalls
• PLUS A WHOLE LOT MORE.
GoGuide Magazine spoke to Friends of Kirkton Park member
Lindsay Colman about the event and what the future holds.
Why was the event started? “We started the event in 2010
because we thought it would be a good way of getting the
public back into the park, remembering how the Sunday
concerts went many years ago. The fun day side of it came
about when I took over as chairperson of Boghall Fun Day.
We thought it would be a good idea to join both events
together and give the kids a great day out and its worked
well”.How is it funded? Boghall Fun Day has money that we use for
the fun day side of things, other funding comes from sponsors
such as Bathgate Community Centre and a community arts
grantWhere do you see the future of the event? I would love to
see this turn into a 2 day event who knows it could become a
West Lothian Party in the Park as big as T in the Park.
Anyone you wanna thank? We would like to thank West
Lothian Council, Dreadnaught Rock, MickMick Designs,
Boghall Butchers, Bathgate Community Centre and a HUGE
thank you to John Greenwell artist and carver on the parks

Growing up on a South Dakota cattle ranch Dan
Reed had plenty of time to daydream. It was here that he first fantasized about becoming a musician while listening to the Doobie Brothers, Kiss, Cheap Trick and Van Halen blasting from his
tractor cab.
On graduating from his South Dakota high school he packed his bags and headed west to Portland, Oregon, his original place of birth and the closest 'big city' he could find near the ocean.
Many, many bands later Dan truly began his musical journey as the lead singer of a band called “The Dan Reed Network”. With three successful albums between 1988 and 1992 the band opened for such bands as RUN DMC, UB40, David Bowie and Bon Jovi and the Rolling Stones. Around
1991 Dan journeyed to India with Bob Guccione Jr. to interview the Dalai Lama for Spin Magazine and began to hunger for more than the pop/rock music scene had to offer.
There followed a long journey flirting with acting, writing, nightclub owner and problems with alcohol and drugs but eventually Dan returned in 2008 doing what he does best, writing and performing new music with the rock star image far behind him.

THE BLACK LIGHTS
The Black Lights know what good classic rock sounds like, they know, and they want it…. Since 2006 they have been scouring the land in search of just what it takes to get
‘that’ sound and to write ‘those’ songs.
After line-up changes, miles of gigging across the UK and hours rehearsing they have come pretty close to that PERFECT blend needed for a great Rock Band. With influences across AC/DC , KISS, The Wildhearts, Slade and Guns ‘n’ Roses to name but a few The Black Lights bring a sleazy, ballsy grit fest of guitar, drum and bass awash with rousing sing-along chorus and stabbed in the heart with killer licks that any signed band would be proud of.
The debut album, ‘Rock Awesome’, was released in August 2010 and the band has also appeared on the cover CD for Issue 150 of ‘Classic Rock Magazine’. www.theblacklightsrock.com
Since their formation in September 2010, this family power trio has
gone on to become one of the fastest rising bands on the Scottish circuit. They have been booked for over 180 gigs in this time including festivals all over Scotland, from the Dundee Blues Bonanza to the Shetland Blues Festival.
In addition to providing cracking re-arrangements of some blues/rock classics they are prolific writers of their own material.
Their highly acclaimed first Album 'Gambling Machine' has received favourable radio airplay in many different countries and good reviews in the music press.
They are now beginning the next phase of their musical journey and will be playing to a much wider range of venues all over the UK and Europe. See the Gig Diary page for more information. They hope to be playing somewhere near you soon.

Seed were formed in late 2011 from the remains of various bands and are currently gathering a strong Glasgow following. The
band combine folk music with alternative rock to create their self proclaimed genre of Organic Banjo Rock. 2 vocalists playing acoustic guitar and banjo are backed up by a solid drum and bass rhythm section to create a unique sound. The bands influences range from Neil Young to Nirvana and Alice In Chains through to Led Zeppelin and many more.
The band featured on Radio 1 show 'Introducing' before they had even played a gig due to the strength of self recorded demo 'The River'. They have since featured on the show again and had airplay on a few others.
In April 2012 the band launched their self-recorded EP 'Shackland Sessions'

SEED
Stuntman Mike play dance-infused alternative rock, culminating in an exhilarating show of bouncing riffs, driving
bass, and honest melodies.
The ‘live’ experience is the reason for the existence of Stuntman Mike, with the band committed to playing every show as if it’s their first and last….no matter where, no matter when! They have graced the stages of the Scotlands best venues, including shows at King Tut’s and Cathouse. They have picked up support slote with heavyweights such as The Damned Things and Gun.
The band have two self-released singles to date, live favourite ‘10,000 Lives’ and ‘Secret Forces’ (Winner of Rock Recording of the Year at the Scottish New Music Awards 2011), with ‘The Lost Alliance’ EP in between.

Emergency Exit formed way back in 1977 when Rob Cherrie and Tom Finlay got together with bass player Gerry Healy and drummer Colin Dundas (Hoss). Que a string of
departures and a direction change from just doing punk covers to writing their own material and eventually an implossion in 1980 just as the guys were about to potentially land that illusive record contract.
Roll on 2008 and with a resurgence of punk hanging in the air Rob got a call from Tom about reforming the early lineup of EE
After a stuttery start the guys were joined in 2009 by ex Glitter Band drummer Barry Haywood. Other arrivals after that were Jonny Usuck and in late 2010 none other than ‘Parky’ on bass and with a settled lineup the guys have been gigging regularly since.

Deep in the forests of rural Scotland there resides a group of super intelligent primates with a love of Ska, Reggae and experimentation.
This new breed, unlike their Indonesian counterparts, have mastered the art of making fires and boiling kettles. This inevitably led to a love of hot drinks and enabled them to begin brewing their dynamic brand of musical alchemy. From their obscure leafy origins this species is rapidly becoming an evolutionary juggernaut.

InTune is owner Mark Feeney’s baby and with a HND in Music Performance and a BA (Hons) in Popular Music among his qualifications he is well suited to teaching you everything you need to know about electric/acoustic guitar, bass guitar and the drums.
''I teach a lot of young kids but also pick up from where others have left off and offer help and support for school students studying SQA
exams or adults preparing for university audi-tions. It's a rewarding job watching students progress, enjoy playing music and joining bands. My students have a 100% pass rate in their exams with some even going on to study music at college level'' says Mark. ''My youngest student is six years old and my old-est is sixty two so I have experience teaching different age groups.''
