Editorial We welcome you to the open evening edition of the Latitude 51°
magazine. In this magazine we are welcoming all of those viewing the
school to come and speak their mind about the local area in which
they live. This will hopefully give those joining the school a chance to
get to know their future classmates but also a chance to get involved
with the geography department and understand the wide range of
activities it offers.
The Latitude 51° editorial team.
Sutton
“I think that Sutton is a very busy place to live, although it is convenient. I live near: a conven-
ience store, a Chinese takeaway, a park, a hair salon, a chip shop and more! In fact, I live just
around the corner from them. Sutton is huge although I hear Croydon, where I previously lived,
is much larger. Bus networks are also local and it is easy to get to other places.” Ben
“I live in Sutton, where there is not
much greenery. I’m very lucky as I
live next to some very good schools.
I love Sutton.” Thomas
“I live in the centre of Sutton and there are lots of roads. The high street is on a hill and has
lots of shops. My area has a wide range of public transport such as: West Sutton Station,
Sutton Station and a large number of bus stations. On top of this there are a lot of parks
nearby.” Alexander
“In Sutton, the environment is
very healthy with a lot of green
space. Sutton is very convenient
and has a lot to offer. I love liv-
ing in Sutton.” Affan
“I live in Holland Avenue in Sutton. My school is quite close and I just need to walk down the
road to get to it. There are lots of fun things in my area as you can usually find any shop you
need to find. I love the area I live in, it is the perfect place.” Haaris
“I live in Sutton and I enjoy living here as all my friends live nearby. My current school is a
minutes’ walk away. I have fun with my friends at school and cubs which is nearby and I go to
every Wednesday.” Haydn
“I live in Sutton. It’s a lovely place because it has lots of parks
and the best schools.” Ivan
Epsom & Banstead
“I live in Epsom which is famous for the derby horse races. I like that both my school and other
facilities are quite close together. I have lots of nice friends.” Jamie
“I live in Epsom, Surrey and we live on a road which
has: 1 shop, 1 café, a butchers and dentists. Our
road has a large, dominating hill and we have an
energetic spaniel. Connected to our road, is West
Hill road, which bustles with traffic. Luckily, we live
near the station and it is convenient if we wish to
travel to Dorking or London.”
“I live in Banstead, a reasonably quiet town. I love
the fact that there are plenty of shops on the high
street and a variety of schools. The only thing that I
don’t like about Banstead is that the train station is
seriously unreliable!” Sophia
Croydon & Mitcham
“I live in Croydon which is nice because there is not much traffic and it is very
peaceful and quiet. I do not like that there is nothing to do.” Aditya.
“I live in Croydon and I like playing computer games and I don’t like eggs. I like
where because is very safe.” Eugene
“I live in Mitcham. To make it better I would build a park to make it a bit livelier
and a bit less boring. The good thing is that I live near a swimming centre where I
can swim without any stress. My neighbourhood is very good and friendly and,
apart from not having anything to do, it’s a nice place to live.” Marko
Wallington
“I live in a small road in Wallington. There is not much around there apart from a few
shops really. Luckily, traffic is very rare in my area. I go to a school called Bandon hill pri-
mary.” Toby
“I live in Wallington, and it is a lovely place. I also like to play Minecraft on my
PS3; I love macaroni and cheese, also I love to play badminton. Sometimes when
I am bored I watch my dad work!!!!!!” Antony
New Malden
“I live in New Malden in James road and I really like football but I really
dislike basketball.” Akash
“I live in New Malden, and I think it’s a very nice place. I also LOVE the fact that I
live near the fountain. There are loads of shops there too. However, it is very
noisy when I try to sleep.” Aksana
Wimbledon
“I live in Wimbledon in London. It is a lovely place and has many good schools and parks. My
school and the local park is only a 2 minute walk from my home. There is a station and many
shops and restaurants within ten minutes of my house. It is a brilliant place to live in, especially
for young kids.” Aarav
“I live in Wimbledon on a small residential road. There is a small park called Dun Donald Park
with a small school next to it (which I go to). You often hear the sound of noisy trains but that is
not too bad because there are good public transport connections. There are many shops, about
10-15 minutes away, and Wimbledon is a very convenient area.” Benedikt
“I live near Wimbledon. On my road there are two parks which are great for my dog. There
is also a train station at the end of the road and we have a very good community in my ar-
ea. I like my neighbourhood a lot. We also live very close to the main shopping centre.” Ollie
Cheam
“I live in Cheam and I like Love Crepe because the food there is fabulous, especially the sug-
ared strawberries. However, I dislike the awful traffic.” Austin
“I Live in Cheam and close to our house there are: 3 shops, 1 café and 2 health
stations. I have two dogs a little brother and an older brother. The people who now
own the cafe know us very well and because of this we go there every weekend to
eat breakfast. I like cars, maths and science. I like where I live and I have 15 cars.”
Alex
Surbiton
“I live in Surbiton London. There is a school near my house and shops nearby. There are parks
close and the Thames and Hogs mill are very close.” Cameron
“I live around in Tolworth, Surbiton. Although I don’t live in Sutton it seems like a nice place to
live. It has convenient areas to go to like shops, (my favourite so far is KFC). However, the traffic
can be quite annoying, especially while on the bus. It’s very disturbing.” Nishil
West Norwood & Sydenham
“I live in Fairlawn Park in Sydenham. It is a very cool place to live because the train station isn’t
very far away and the bus stop is just down the road. All the shops on the high street are really
close so I never get lost when I go out by myself. My house is kind of big and is at the top of the
hill. It’s pretty cool but the only bad thing is that our garden is tiny.” Jacob
“I live in West Norwood which has a few hills that are actually quite hard to trek up… yet I
have to every single day to get to school. There are many winding roads and if you are not
used to the area there is a high chance you will get lost. You may not know where it is since it
is quite far away from Sutton Grammar School but the long journey is worth it as I get to have
an amazing, educational day.” Mark 7G
Morden & Merton
“I live in Merton Park and I like living there because everyone in the neighbourhood knows
each other and they are very friendly. All the schools are close so, wherever you live, you are
always close to one. Every one of my friends lives down my road so I like to visit them regu-
larly.” Sam.
“I live in Morden and there are not too many hills or bumps. It has good schools which are
nearby and this is very convenient. However, to get to Sutton Grammar School I have to travel
for 45 minutes. Inevitably, it is definitely worth it. There are also a few small forests and
parks.” Azzaam 7G
Herne Hill & Ilford
“I live in Herne hill, Guernsey grove and my road joins onto Rosendale road which leads to
our park (Brockwell Park). In general, the neighbourhood is nice and cosy. We mostly have
shops that sell food and every Sunday we have a farmers market in the morning. Next to
the park we also have a train station which is convenient for travelling around London.”
Jerry
“I live in Ilford where some roads are dangerous. I go to a very big school and there are
lots of trees around my area. There around 1550+ children in my school.” Ibrahim
Ashtead & Stoneleigh
“I live in Ashtead on the main road which has a high street and a park on it. It’s about a 10
minute walk from my house to the station. There is also a shortcut through a field which is much
quicker compared to walking around. The same road that I live on goes into leatherhead and
Epsom.”
By Dylan 7G
“I live in Stoneleigh and I have a deep regard for football! Stoneleigh is sometimes quiet but
at other times it is very busy.” Khush
Putney & Balham
“I live in Balham and I think it is really busy at the traffic lights by Bodeans but I still like
all of the restaurants there. Also, I do not like the fact that the road I live on is really long
especially when you are walking as slow as a slug.” Alfie
“I live in Putney on a street of Victorian houses. I live near the park but the
downside is that I am close to the main road. I like playing on my PS4!” Alex
Purley & Coulsdon Greenwich
“I live in Purley and I like it because it has lots of trees and sometimes it is quiet. There is a
lot of traffic when we try to drive along Brighton Road.” Anthony
“I live in Coulsdon where there are a lot of shops. It isn’t busy at all as it’s just a big cir-
cle. My school, Reedham Park, is only 5 minutes away.” Rafael
Greenwich
“I live in Greenwich. The people there are very nice. The schools are clean, friendly and
amazing. I go to Halstow primary school and it’s the best place ever!” Yahya
