Exhibition Proposal

TitleGold artistamps story

DescriptionÀ) Introduction to the Artistamps worldMail art is art of artist's communication. There is big international society of mail artists – mal art network. Mail art continues line of Neo-DADA (from DADA to conceptualism) by style. Mail art was born in the middle of 1950s. One of “mail art fathers” was American pre-pop-artist Ray Johnson. Exhibitions of mail art are organizing regularly all over the world since 1970s. Totally there were more than 1000 mail art exhibitions.Artistamps art are fake postal stamps drawn by artists. Artistamps art as artist's technique was born inside the mail art network. Artists did artistamps primary for trading with another artists and later for sale. Now artistamps art is independent genre of contemporary art. First exhibition of the artistamps art was in Simon Fraser University (Btitish Columbia, Canada) in 1974. Last exhibition of artistamps art was in Oaxaca Postal Museum (Oaxaca, Mexico) in 2010. Total there were dozens of artistamps art exhibitions in different states. There were published several books about artistamps art: for example, «ARTISTAMPS.Francobolli d'Artista» (2000) by James Felter, founder of artistamps art.

B) Exhibition project detailsArtistamps exhibitions can be of three types.

1. Actual cuts. Artist-organizer declares theme and distributes invitations to artistamps artists. Submitted works are exhibiting, usually without selection.

2. Archive shows. Artist-organizer shows artistamps from his/her archive without selection3. One-man shows. Artist shows his/her artistamps on unique theme.4. Archive selections. Artist-organizer chooses artistamps from his/her archive on some criteria and shows

them.

The fourth type projects are the most complicated, because they require additional skills for artists-organizers and strong archive quality. This is exhibition proposal of this fourth type. These type exhibitions are very rare.

Selection criteria are: - the best works from every artist- if artist is using several techniques of artistamps making (for example, direct and un-direct perforation) or archive has artistamp sheets and artistamps glued on envelope by one artist – then chosen the best works of every type.

Criteria provide the selection of best works from every artistamp artist considering their creative variabilities. We propose to group works on the states and continents to identify style regularities and receive complex representation on the artistamps art as direction of art and its achievements for last 20 years. The majority of proposed artists are masters of genre and famous contemporary artists. We propose to show works by James Felter (Canada), Anna Banana (Canada), John Held Jr. (USA), Peter Netmail (Germany), Ruggero Maggi (Italy), Guy Bleus (Belgium), Gyorgy Galantai (Hungary) and other.
