STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

“I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as a possession.” (Genesis 15:7) Just as the Lord gave Abraham, Moses and the Israelites a land to possess, He has also given each of us a home. Whether your home is grand or humble, it is a gift from God. Abraham prepared a great sacrifice to the Lord in gratitude for the home God gave him. How do you show your gratitude to God for the home He has given you? Do you make a sacrifice of any kind? Do you return any of your finances to God, investing equally in your eternal home just as you invest in your earthly home?

COLLECTIONS

The collection for last weekend was $4,158. We are very grateful for your loyal support.

Policy for Baptism of Children

Call to Celebrate: Baptism, which consists of three group sessions, is required for parents seeking to have their infants/children baptized at North American Martyrs. It is strongly suggested that parents prepare prior to the birth of their child. To register, contact Joan at 508-798-0612 or [email protected]. The next Preparation Session will be held in April. (Other sessions are held in June, September, and January). The full policy is posted on the bulletin board of the church and on the North American Martyrs website.

19th Annual Diocesan Catholic Men’s Conference

Men (of all ages, including teens and college students) are invited to this important annual conference, scheduled for Assumption College on Saturday, April 6th. Visit the conference website at www.firstmensconf.org for information. Come

and hear dynamic talks from outstanding Catholic leaders. Bishops and priests will hear confessions. Bishop McManus will offer the Conference Mass. The cost is $25 (with $20 subsidy from NAM Parish) if registered through North American Martyrs by March 25th. Please call the Religious Education Office at 508-798-0612 to purchase tickets.

How about making a Cursillo weekend?

Cursillo or "short course in Christianity" is an uplifting and educational experience. The weekend is facilitated by a team of laypeople and clergy with organized talks and discussions. The weekend is full of laughter, prayer, great music, wonderful meals and so much more. There is a Men’s weekend on March 21-24 at the Immaculate Conception Spiritual Renewal Center in Putnam, CT. For information, please contact Sue Leighton at 508-278-3155 or [email protected].

SECOND WEEK OF LENT - ENCOUNTER ANNET

In Uganda, we encounter Annet and her family, children forced to flee violence, searching for stability. How are we called to welcome the stranger in our midst? How can you support those

worldwide who are forced to flee their homes to find safety or better opportunities? Visit crsricebowl.org for more.

The Fridays of Lent are days of Abstinence, therefore, we should NOT EAT MEAT on those days.

Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics fourteen (14) years of age and older on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all the Fridays of Lent.

2nd Sunday in Lent Look up. (Genesis 15:5)

All three readings today urge us to do one thing: fix our eyes on heaven. In the first reading, God told Abraham to look at the night sky. “Count the stars, if you can. Just so . . . shall your descendants be,” he promised (Genesis 15:5). Abraham, who was already advanced in years and childless, would somehow become the father of many nations.

In the second reading, St. Paul reminds us that “our citizenship is in heaven” and not in this world (Philippians 3:20). He tells us that we belong there, and that we should keep that truth in mind so that we can “stand firm in the Lord” (4:1).

And in the Gospel, Jesus gives Peter, James, and John a vision of his heavenly glory. He knew he was headed for the cross and that his death would shake them to the core. So he gave them this vision to strengthen their faith and encourage them, even as they saw him arrested, tortured, and killed.

Jesus wants us to fix our eyes on heaven as well. He wants us to focus on his glory and his promises as we pray each morning. He knows that if we do, we’ll give the Holy Spirit the opportunity to write these promises on our hearts. We’ll let the Spirit show us Jesus’ love and mercy so that we can stay close to him during the day.

Here are some key promises you can fix your eyes on. First, God promises to keep his covenant with you, just as he kept his covenant with Abraham. Second, Jesus promises that your citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20). You belong to him! And third, the Holy Spirit promises that if you fix your eyes on Jesus in prayer every day, you’ll begin to see him more clearly, just as the apostles caught a glimpse of him at his transfiguration.

Choose one of these promises today, and dwell on it. Repeat it over and over. Fix your heart on the way it reveals God’s love for you. Look up to heaven, and let your heart be filled with all its goodness and grace!
