MAXIMUM VENTING DISTANCEInstallationMUSTincludeatleast3-feetofverticalpipeoutsidethehome.Thiswillcreatesomenaturaldrafttoreducethepossibilityofsmokeorodorduringapplianceshutdownandkeepexhaustfromcausinganuisanceorhazardbyexposingpeopleorshrubstohightemperatures.Themaximumrecommendverticalventingheightis12-feetfor3-inchtype“PL”vent.Totallengthofhorizontalventmustnotexceed4-feet.Thiscouldcausebackpressure.Usenomorethan180degreesofelbows(two90-degreeelbows,ortwo45-degreeandone90-degreeelbow,etc.)tomaintainadequatedraft.

IMPORTANCE OF PROPER DRAFTDraft is the forcewhichmovesair fromtheapplianceupthroughthechimney.Theamountofdraft inyourchimneydependsonthelengthofthechimney,localgeography,nearbyobstructionsandotherfactors.Toomuchdraftmaycauseexcessivetemperaturesintheappliance.Inadequatedraftmaycausebackpuffingintotheroomand‘plugging’ofthechimney.Inadequate draft will cause the appliance to leak smoke into the room through appliance and chimneyconnectorjoints.Anuncontrollableburnorexcessivetemperatureindicatesexcessivedraft.Takeintoaccountthechimney’slocationtoinsureitisnottooclosetoneighborsorinavalleywhichmaycauseunhealthyornuisanceconditions.

PELLET VENT TYPEAULlisted3-inchor4-inchtype“PL”pelletventexhaustsystemmustbeusedforinstallationandattachedtothepipeconnectorprovidedonthebackofthestove(usea3-inchto4-inchadapterfor4-inchpipe).ConnectionatbackofstovemustbesealedusingHi-TempRTV.Use4-inchventiftheventheightisover12-feetor iftheinstallationisover2,500feetabovesealevel.WerecommendtheuseofSimpsonDura-Vent®orMetal-Fab®pipe(ifyouuseotherpipe,consultyourlocalbuildingcodesand/orbuildinginspectors).DonotuseType-BGasVentpipeorgalvanizedpipewiththisunit.Thepelletventpipeisdesignedtodisassembleforcleaningandshouldbecheckedseveraltimesduringtheburningseason.Pelletventpipeisnotfurnishedwiththeunitandmustbepurchasedseparately.

PELLET VENT INSTALLATIONThe installationmust includeaclean-outteetoenablecollectionofflyashandtopermitperiodiccleaningoftheexhaustsystem.Theclean-outteemustbeinstalledatthebaseoftheverticalsection,notinhorizontalsection.90-degreeelbowsaccumulateflyashandsootthereby,reducingexhaustflowandperformanceofthestove.Eachelboworteereducesdraftpotentialby30%to50%.Alljointsintheventsystemmustbefastenedbyatleast3screws,andalljointsmustbesealedwithHi-TempRTVsiliconesealantontheinsideandhightemperaturetapeontheoutsidetobeairtight.Theareawheretheventpipepenetratestotheexteriorofthehomemustbesealedwithsiliconeorothermeanstomaintainthevaporbarrierbetweentheexteriorandtheinteriorofthehome.Ventsurfacescangethotenoughtocauseburnsiftouchedbychildren.Noncombustibleshieldingorguardsmayberequired.

PELLET VENT TERMINATIONDonotterminatetheventinanenclosedorsemi-enclosedarea,suchas;carport,garage,attic,crawlspace,underasundeckorporch,narrowwalkway,oranyotherlocationthatcanbuildupaconcentrationoffumes.Theterminationmustexhaustabovetheoutsideairinletelevation.Theterminationmustnotbelocatedwhereitwillbecomepluggedbysnoworothermaterials.Donotterminatetheventingintoanexistingsteelormasonrychimney.

THROUGH THE WALL INSTALLATION (RECOMMENDED INSTALLATION)CanadianinstallationsmustconformtoCAN/CSA-B365.To vent the unit through the wall, connect the pipeadapter to the exhaust motor adapter. If the exhaustadapterisatleast18in.(457mm)abovegroundlevel,astraightsectionofpelletventpipecanbeusedthroughthewall.Yourheaterdealershouldbeabletoprovideyouwitha kit thatwill handlemost of this installation,whichwillincludeawallthimblethatwillallowtheproperclearancethroughacombustiblewall.Onceoutsidethestructure,a3in.(76mm)clearanceshouldbemaintainedfromtheoutsidewallandacleanout tee shouldbeplacedonthepipewitha90-degreeturnawayfromthehouse.Atthispoint,a3ft(0.91m)(minimum)sectionofpipeshouldbeaddedwithahorizontalcap,whichwouldcompletetheinstallation(seeFIGURE7).A support bracket should be placed just below thetermination cap or one every 4ft (1.22m) tomake thesystemmorestable.Ifyouliveinanareathathasheavysnowfall,itisrecommendedthattheinstallationbetallerthan 3ft (0.91m) to get above the snowdrift line. Thissame installation can be used if your heater is belowgroundlevelbysimplyaddingtheclean-outsectionandvertical pipe inside until ground level is reached. Withthis installation you have to be aware of the snowdriftline,deadgrass,and leaves. We requirea3ft (0.91m)minimumverticalriseontheinsideoroutsideofthehouse.The“throughthewall”installationistheleastexpensiveandsimplestinstallation.Neverterminatetheendventunderadeck,inanalcove,underawindow,orbetweentwowindows.WerecommendSimpsonDura-Vent®orMetal-Fab®kits.

THROUGH THE ROOF/CEILING INSTALLATIONWhenventingtheheaterthroughtheceiling,thepipeisconnectedthesameasthroughthewall,excepttheclean-outteeisalwaysontheinsideofthehouse,anda3in.(76mm)adapterisaddedbeforetheclean-outtee.Youmustusetheproperceilingsupportflangesandroofflashing(suppliedbythepipemanufacturer;followthepipemanufacturer’sdirections).Itisimportanttonotethatifyourverticalrunofpipeismorethan12ft(3.66m),thepelletventpipesizeshouldbeincreasedto4in.(102mm)indiameter.Donotexceedmorethan4ft(1.22m)ofpipeonahorizontalrunanduseasfewelbowsaspossible.Ifanoffsetisrequired,itisbettertoinstall45-degreeelbowsratherthan90-degreeelbows.

DAMPER CONTROLThedampercontrolrodonthestove’slowerleftsideadjuststhecombustionair.Thiscontrolisnecessaryduetothevariedburncharacteristicsofindividualinstallations,differentpelletbrandsandpelletfeedrates.Itallowsyoutoimprovetheefficiencyofyourstove.Providingcorrectcombustionairwillreducethefrequencyofcleaningyourglassdoorandpreventtherapidbuildupofcreosoteinsideyourstoveandchimney.Youshouldadjustthedamperbasedonthefire’sappearance.Alow,reddish,dirtyfirecanbeimprovedbypullingthedamperoutslightly.A“blowtorch”firecanbeimprovedbypushingthedamperinabit.Asageneralrule,onlowerfeedratesettings,thedampershouldbeinfarther.Onhigherfeedrates,thedampershouldbemoreopen.Throughtrialanderror,youwillfindthebestsetting.Consultyourdealerifyouneedhelp.NOTE:On“1”,dampershouldbeeithercompletelyclosedoroutapproximately1/8”to1/4”.Ifdamperisouttoofar,itcancausethefiretogoout.

EXHAUST SYSTEMCreosoteFormation–Whenanywoodisburnedslowly,itproducestarandotherorganicvapors,whichcombinewithexpelledmoisturetoformcreosote.Thecreosotevaporscondenseintherelativelycoolchimneyflueoranewlystartedfireorfromaslow-burningfire.Asaresult,creosoteresidueaccumulatesonthefluelining.Whenignited,thiscreosotemakesanextremelyhotfire,whichmaydamagethechimneyorevendestroythehouse.Despitetheirhighefficiency,pelletstovescanaccumulatecreosoteundercertainconditions.SootandFlyash:FormationandNeedforRemoval-Theproductsofcombustionwillcontainsmallparticlesofflyash. Theflyashwillcollect in theexhaustventingsystemand restrict theflowof thefluegases. Incompletecombustion,suchasoccursduringstartup,shutdown,orincorrectoperationoftheroomheaterwillleadtosomesootformationwhichwillcollectintheexhaustventingsystem.TheexhaustventingsystemshouldBeinspectedatleastonceeveryyeartodetermineifcleaningisnecessary.InspectionandRemoval–Thechimneyconnectorandchimneyshouldbe inspectedannuallyorpertonofpellets to determine if creosote or fly ashbuild-up has occurred. If creosote has accumulated, it shouldberemovedtoreducetheriskofachimneyfire.Inspectthesystematthestoveconnectionandatthechimneytop.Coolersurfacestendtobuildcreosotedepositsquicker,soitisimportanttocheckthechimneyfromthetopaswellasfromthebottom.Thecreosoteshouldberemovedwithabrushspecificallydesignedforthetypeofchimneyinuse.Aqualifiedchimneysweepcanperformthisservice.Itisalsorecommendedthatbeforeeachheatingseasontheentiresystembeprofessionallyinspected,cleanedand,ifnecessary,repaired.Tocleanthechimney,disconnecttheventfromthestove.

INTERIOR CHAMBERSPeriodicallyremoveandcleantheburnpotandtheareainsidetheburnpothousing.Inparticularitisadvisabletocleanouttheholesintheburnpottoremoveanybuildupthatmaypreventairfrommovingthroughtheburnpotfreely.Removethetwo(2)platesoneachsideoftheburnpothousingandcleanoutthatrearchamber.Ifavacuumisusedtocleanyourstove,wesuggestusingavacuumdesignedforashremoval.Someregularvacuumcleaner(i.e.shopvacs)mayleakashintotheroom.

ASH DISPOSALAshesshouldbeplaced inametalcontainerwithatightfitting lid.Theclosedcontainerofashesshouldbeplacedonanoncombustiblefloororon theground,wellaway fromallcombustiblematerials,pendingfinaldisposal.Iftheashesaredisposedofbyburialinsoilorotherwiselocallydispersed,theyshouldberetainedintheclosedcontaineruntilallcindershavebeenthoroughlycooled.Thecontainershallnotbeusedforothertrashorwastedisposal.

SMOKE AND CO MONITORSBurningwoodnaturallyproducessmokeandcarbonmonoxide(CO)emissions.CO isapoisonousgaswhenexposed toelevatedconcentrations forextendedperiodsof time.While themoderncombustion systems inheatersdrasticallyreducetheamountofCOemittedoutthechimney,exposuretothegasesinclosedorconfinedareascanbedangerous.Makesureyoustovegasketsandchimneyjointsareingoodworkingorderandsealingproperlytoensureunintendedexposure.ItisrecommendedthatyouusebothsmokeandCOmonitorsinareashavingthepotentialtogenerateCO.

CHECK AND CLEAN THE HOPPERCheckthehopperperiodicallytodetermineifthere isanysawdustorpelletsthatarestickingtothehoppersurface.Cleanasneeded.

DOOR AND GLASS GASKETSInspectthemaindoorandglasswindowgasketsperiodically.Themaindoormayneedtoberemovedtohavefrayed,broken,orcompactedgasketsreplacedbyyourauthorizeddealer.Theglassgaskethasagapatthebottomfortheairwash.Thisunit’sdoorusesa3/4”diameterropegasket.

BLOWER MOTORSCleantheairholesonthemotorsofboththeexhaustanddistributionblowersannually.Removetheexhaustblowerfromtheexhaustductandcleanouttheinternalfanbladesandhousingaspartofyourfallstart-up.

PAINTED SURFACESPaintedsurfacesmaybewipeddownwithadampcloth.Ifscratchesappear,oryouwishtorenewyourpaint,contactyourauthorizeddealertoobtainacanofsuitablehigh-temperaturepaint.

GLASS - CLEANING, REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF BROKEN DOOR GLASSCleaning - We recommend using a high quality glass cleaner. Should a build up of creosote or carbonaccumulate,youmaywishtouse000steelwoolandwatertocleantheglass.DONOTuseabrasivecleaners.DONOTperformthecleaningwhiletheglassisHOT.,Intheeventyouneedtoreplacetheglass,removethesix(6)screwsandglassretainers.Whilewearingleathergloves(oranyotherglovessuitableforhandlingbrokenglass),carefullyremoveanyloosepiecesofglassfromthedoorframe.Disposeofallbrokenglassproperly.ONLYhightemperatureceramicglassofthecorrectsizeandthicknessmaybeused.DONOTsubstitutealternativematerialsfortheglass.Contactyourauthorizeddealertoobtainthisglass.Re-installthenewglassbyre-attachingtheretainersandscrews,carefulnottoovertightenthescrewsforthiscoulddamagetheglass.DONOTabusethedoorglassbystriking,slammingorsimilartrauma.Donotoperatethestovewiththeglassremoved,crackedorbroken.

FALL START UPPriortostartingthefirstfireoftheheatingseason,checktheoutsideareaaroundtheexhaustandair intakesystemsforobstructions.Cleanandremoveanyflyashfromtheexhaustventingsystem.Cleananyscreensontheexhaustsystemandontheoutsideairintakepipe.Turnallofthecontrolsonandmakesurethattheyareworkingproperly.Thisisalsoagoodtimetogivetheentirestoveagoodcleaningthroughout.

SPRING SHUTDOWN After the last burn in the spring, remove any remaining pellets from the hopper and the auger feed system. Scoop out the

pellets and then run the auger until the hopper is empty and pellets stop flowing (this can be done by pressing the “ON” button with the viewing door open). Vacuum out the hopper. Thoroughly clean the burn pot, and firebox. It may be desirable to spray the inside of the cleaned hopper with an aerosol silicone spray if your stove is in a high humidity area. The exhaust system should be thoroughly cleaned.

2. Theairinlet,burnpot,interiorcombustionairchambers,combustionblower,orexhaustpipeareblockedwithashorforeignmaterial.

3. Thefireboxisnotproperlysealed.

Makesurethedoorisclosedandthatthegasketisingoodshape.Iftheashdoorhasalatch,makesuretheashdoorisproperlylatchedandthegasketissealinggood.Ifthestovehasjustasmallholefortheashestofallthroughundertheburnpot,makesurethesliderplateisinplacetosealoffthefireboxfloor.

10. Airswitchhasfailed(veryrare).

Totesttheairswitch,youwillneedtodisconnecttheairhosefromthebodyofthestove.Withtheotherendstillattachedtotheairswitch,verygentlysuckonthelooseendofthehose(youmaywanttoremovethehoseentirelyoffthestoveandtheairswitchfirstandmakesureitisclear).Ifyouhearaclick,theairswitchisworking.BECAREFULTOOMUCHVACUUMCANDAMAGETHEAIRSWITCH.

Whenoperatingtheunit,besurethehopperlidisclosedsothatthehoppersafetyswitchwillactivate.Checkthewiresleadingfromthehoppersafetyswitchtothecontrolpanelandaugermotorforsecureconnections.Useacontinuitytestertotestthehoppersafetyswitch;replaceifnecessary.

7. Theaugershaftisjammed.

Startbyemptyingthehopper.Thenremovetheaugermotorbyremovingtheaugerpin.Removetheaugershaftinspectionplateinthehoppersothatyoucanseetheaugershaft.Gentlylifttheaugershaftstraightupsothattheendoftheaugershaftcomesupoutofthebottomaugerbushing.Next,removethetwonutsthatholdthetopaugerbiscuitin.Thenrotatethebottomendoftheaugershaftuptowardsyouuntilyoucanlifttheshaftoutofthestove.Afteryouhaveremovedtheshaft,inspectitforbentflights,burrs,orbrokenwelds.Removeanyforeignmaterialthatmighthavecausedthejam.Also,checktheaugertubeforsignsofdamagesuchasburrs,roughspots,orgroovescutintothemetalthatcouldhavecausedajam.

8. Theaugermotorhasfailed.Removetheaugermotorfromtheaugershaftandtrytoruntheunit.Ifthemotorwillturntheshaftisjammedonsomething.Ifthemotorwillnotturn,themotorisbad.

9. TheProofofFire(POF)thermodischasmalfunctioned.

TemporarilybypassthePOFthermodiscbydisconnectingthetwobrownwiresandconnectingthemwithashortpieceofwire.Thenplugthestovebackin.Ifthestovecomesonandworks,youneedtoreplacethePOFthermodisc.Thisisfortestingonly.DONOTLEAVETHETHERMODISCBYPASSED.Yourblowerswillnevershutoffandifthefirewentout,theaugerwillcontinuetofeedpelletsuntilthehopperisemptyifyouleavethePOFthermodiscbypassed.

10. Thehighlimitthermodischastrippedorisdefective.

Waitforthestovetocoolforabout30-45minutes.LocatetheHighLimitthermodiscandpresstheresetbuttononthebackofit.Iftheheaterwillnotrestart,checkthethermodisctoseeifit’sbad.Totestifthethermodiscisbad,youcanbypassitasdescribedpreviouslyforthePOFthermodisc.

11. Thefuseonthecontrolboardhasblown.Removethecontrolboard.Onthebackthereisonefuse.Ifitappearstobebad,replaceitwitha5Amp,125Voltfuse.Plugthestovebackinandtrytoruntheunit.

12. ThecontrolboardisnotsendingpowertothePOFthermodiscorotheraugersystemcomponents.

2. Blockageinignitertubeorinletforignitertube.

Findtheigniterhousingonthebacksideofthefirewall.Theairintakeholeisasmallholelocatedonbottomsideofthehousing.Makesureitisclear.Also,lookfromthefrontofthestovetomakesurethereisnotanydebrisaroundtheigniterelementinsideoftheigniterhousing.

3. Theburnpotisnotpushedcompletelytotherearofthefirebox.

Makesurethattheairintakecollarontheburnpotistouchingtherearwallofthefirebox.

4. Badigniterelement.Putpowerdirectlytotheigniterelement.Watchthetipoftheigniterfromthefrontofthestove.Afterabout2minutesthetipshouldglow.Ifitdoesnot,theelementisbad.

5. Thecontrolboardisnotsendingpowertotheigniter.

Checkthevoltagegoingtotheigniterduringstartup.Itshouldbeafullcurrent.Ifthevoltageislowerthanfullcurrent,checkthewiring.Ifthewiringchecksoutgood,theboardisbad.

2. Thegasketonthecombustionblowerhasgonebad. Inspectbothgasketsonthecombustionblowertomakesuretheyareingoodshape.

The operation of this heater in a manner inconsistent with the owner’s manual will void the warranty and is also against federal regulations.

United States Stove Company warrants to the original purchaser its products against premature failure of any component due to workmanship, quality, or materials as follows:

CLAIM PROCEDUREAny defects should be reported to United States Stove Company or its dealer and/or distributor giving descriptions and pertinent data, including proof or purchase which will be returned upon request.Providing the heater has been installed and used in accordance with the Owners Manual supplied with the heater, United States Stove Company will either:1) Replace the defective part free of charge2) Replace the heater free of charge3) Where the defect is of a cosmetic (non-functional) nature, United States Stove Company will bear reasonable expense to refurbish the heater,

including such items as welding, painting, and incidental labor. A “Reasonable” is defi ned by terms of this warranty as $30.00/hour with full refund for any purchase of parts from U.S. Stove Company.

NOT COVEREDSpecifi cally not covered under terms of this limited warranty or any other warranty are problems relating to smoking or creosote. Smoking is attributable to inadequate draft due to the design or installation of the fl ue system or installation of the heater itself. Creosote formation is largely attributable to improper operation of the unit and/or draft as mentioned above. Also, not covered are:1) Removal and re-installation cost.2) Service calls to diagnose trouble (unless authorized in writing by the manufacturer, distributor, or dealer).3) Painted or plated surfaces.4) Damage or defect caused by improper installation, accidents, misuse, abuse (including overfi ring) or alteration.5) Transportation or shipping costs.

LIMITATIONS AND EXCLUSIONS1) United States Stove Company shall not be liable for incidental, consequential, special, or contingent damages anyone might suffer as a result of their

breach of this written warranty or any implied warranty.2) Should the heater be replaced by United States Stove Company “free of charge”, all further warranty obligations are thereby met.3) Parts and/or service replacements made under the terms of this warranty are warranted only for the remaining period of the original heater warranty.4) Without specifi c written exclusionary waivers, no one has authority to add to or vary this limited warranty, or to create for United States Stove

Company any further obligation of liability in connection with this heater or any other applicable accessory. Any further warranty implication applicable to this heater or any applicable accessory is limited in duration to the same time period as the original statement in the above schedule.

PROCÉDURE DE RÉCLAMATIONLes défauts doivent être signalés à United States Stove Company ou à son détaillant ou distributeur en donnant une description et les données pertinentes, y compris une preuve d’achat qui sera retournée sur demande.À condition que l’appareil de chauffage ait été installé et utilisé conformément au manuel d’utilisation fourni avec celui-ci, United States Stove Company fera l’une ou l’autre des choses suivantes:1. Remplacer la pièce défectueuse sans frais2. Remplacer l’appareil de chauffage sans frais3. Si le défaut est de nature cosmétique (non fonctionnel), United States Stove Company prendra en charge les frais raisonnables pour la remise à neuf

de l’appareil de chauffage, y compris des éléments tels que la soudure, la peinture et la main d’œuvre qui s’y rapporte. Les frais « raisonnables » sont défi nis par les conditions de cette garantie comme étant de 30 $/heure avec remboursement intégral pour tout achat de pièces de U.S. Stove Company.

NON COUVERTSLes problèmes relatifs à la fumée ou à la créosote ne sont pas spécifi quement couverts aux termes de cette garantie limitée ou de toute autre garantie. La fumée est imputable à un tirage adéquat de la cheminée en raison de la conception ou de l’installation du conduit de fumée ou de l’installation de l’appareil de chauffage lui-même. La formation de créosote est en grande partie attribuable à un mauvais fonctionnement de l’appareil et/ou au tirage tel que mentionné ci-dessus. En outre, les éléments suivants ne pas couverts:1. Le coût d’enlèvement et de réinstallation.2. Les visites d’un réparateur pour diagnostiquer les problèmes (sauf si autorisé par écrit par le fabricant, le distributeur ou le détaillant).3. Les surfaces peintes ou plaquées.4. Les dommages ou défauts causés par une mauvaise installation, un accident, une mauvaise utilisation, l’abus (y compris le surchauffement) ou

l’altération.5. Les frais de transport et d’expédition.

RESTRICTIONS ET EXCLUSIONS1. United States Stove Company ne sera pas responsable des dommages accidentels, indirects, spéciaux ou dommages éventuels que quiconque
