God prepared this earth as a home or His children Adam and Eve were chosen to be the frst people to live on the earth (see Moses1:34; 4:26) Their part in our Fathers plan was to bring mortality intothe world They were to be the frst parents (See D&C 107:5456 )

Adam and Eve were among our Fathers noblest children In thespirit world Adam was called Michael the archangel (see D&C27:11; Jude 1:9) He was chosen by our Heavenly Father to lead therighteous in the battle against Satan (see Revelation 12:79) Adamand Eve were oreordained to become our frst parents The Lordpromised Adam great blessings: I have set thee to be at the head; amultitude o nations shall come o thee, and thou art a prince overthem orever (D&C 107:55)

Eve was the mother o all living (Moses 4:26) God brought Adamand Eve together in marriage because it was not good that the manshould be alone (Moses 3:18; see also 1 Corinthians 11:11) Sheshared Adams responsibility and will also share his eternal blessings What can we learn from the examples of Adam and Eve?

    The Garden of Eden

Under what conditions did Adam and Eve live in the Garden ofEden?

When Adam and Eve were placed in the Garden o Eden, they werenot yet mortal In this state, they would have had no children(2 Nephi 2:23) There was no death They had physical li e becausetheir spirits were housed in physical bodies made rom the dusto the earth (see Moses 6:59; Abraham 5:7) They had spiritual li ebecause they were in the presence o God They had not yet madea choice between good and evilGod commanded them to have children He said, Be ruit ul, andmultiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it, and have domin-ion over every living thing that moveth upon the earth (Moses2:28) God told them they could reely eat o every tree in thegarden except one, the tree o knowledge o good and evil O thattree God said, In the day thou eatest thereo thou shalt surely die(Moses 3:17)

Satan, not knowing the mind o God but seeking to destroy Godsplan, came to Eve in the Garden o Eden He tempted her to eat o the ruit o the tree o knowledge o good and evil He assured herthat she and Adam would not die, but that they would be as gods, knowing good and evil (Moses 4:11) Eve yielded to the tempta-tion and ate the ruit When Adam learned what had happened, hechose to partake also The changes that came upon Adam and Eve

because they ate the ruit are called the Fall Adam and Eves Separation from God

What physical and spiritual changes occurred in Adam and Eve asa result of their transgression?

Because Adam and Eve had eaten the ruit o the tree o knowledgeo good and evil, the Lord sent them out o the Garden o Eden into

the world Their physical condition changed as a result o their eat-ing the orbidden ruit As God had promised, they became mor-tal They and their children would experience sickness, pain, andphysical death

ace to ace with God Adam and Eve and their children were sepa-rated rom God both physically and spiritually

Great Blessings Resulted from the Transgression

How does the Fall provide opportunities for us to become likeour Heavenly Father?

Some people believe Adam and Eve committed a serious sin whenthey ate o the tree o knowledge o good and evil However, latter-day scriptures help us understand that their Fall was a necessarystep in the plan o li e and a great blessing to all o us Because o the Fall, we are blessed with physical bodies, the right to choosebetween good and evil, and the opportunity to gain eternal li eNone o these privileges would have been ours had Adam and Everemained in the garden

A ter the Fall, Eve said, Were it not or our transgression we never

should have had seed [children], and never should have knowngood and evil, and the joy o our redemption, and the eternal li e which God giveth unto all the obedient (Moses 5:11) The prophet Lehi explained:And now, behold, i Adam had not transgressed he would not have

allen [been cut o rom the presence o God], but he would haveremained in the Garden o Eden And all things which were created

must have remained in the same state in which they were a ter they were created And they would have had no children; where ore they would haveremained in a state o innocence, having no joy, or they knew nomisery; doing no good, or they knew no sinBut behold, all things have been done in the wisdom o him whoknoweth all things

Adam ell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy (2 Nephi 2:2225)
