It was an amazing series of events for Sekolah Mentari Grand Surya for the last two months. It was fully packed of fun, enjoyable, en-tertaining and educational activities. We started off with a time for par-ents and teachers to talk about our students’ performance in school. In our Parent Teacher Conference, we were able to meet, talked and dis-cussed the strengths and weaknesses of our students with their par-ents. Next in line was the celebration we had for reading. We launched our Reading Week Celebration last November 5, 2012. We opened our celebration by having a successful program , introducing what are the expected activities for the whole week. Students was delighted to an-swer questions about facts related to reading. The highlight of the pro-gram is the appearance of Geronimo Stilton. The Grade 5 students read story books to their younger brothers and sisters in Grade 1 and Grade 2. They appreciated the experience of telling stories to younger kids. After which, the Grade 5 students burned their midnight candles prepar-ing and studying for our semester’s examination. Indeed, these are the months to remember.

The History of Christmas Lights
The tradition of using small candles to light up the Christmas tree dates back to at least the middle of the XVIIth century. However, it took two centuries for the tradition to become widely established first in Germany and soon spreading to Eastern Europe. Candles for the tree were glued with melted wax to a tree branch or at-tached by pins. Around 1890, candleholders were first used for Christ-mas candles. Between 1902 and 1914, small lanterns and glass balls to hold the candles started to be used.
