MetroPort Rail Capacity – Stage One
Current daily trains are 6 trains per day
One off special trains are run as demand dictates
Increased TEU possible from 106 to 117 per train with the lengthening of the Ruakura loops (currently underway) and additional IM class wagons – plus minor terminal development required
MetroPort Rail Capacity – Stage Three
Additional loops and rolling stock will be required
Secondary locomotive required on services 130TEU+
Detailed planning required for optimal route transit times, terminal and track infrastructure, and equipment utilisation
The Government of NZ has committed to support the investment by KiwiRail in key line segments, such as MetroPort line as the commercial need is demonstrated
