Quick Tips: How to Winterize the Outside of Your Home
With colder weather upon us, frozen pipes can lead to property damage and costly repairs.
Protect your pipes with these simple tips:
Caulk around pipes where they enter your house.
If you have a shut-off valve for outside faucets, turn off & drain for the winter months.
Disconnect garden hoses and drain in-ground irrigation systems according to manufac-
ture’s instructions.
Wrap, cover and insulate outside faucets and yard hydrants.
Winterize and insulate inside both your meter and DCVA box. Straw or cedar shavings
are good insulators to prevent freezing.
