Worthy Brother Knights, Vivat Jesus

The council had a good fraternal year for growing membership, and I would like to thank all of those who sponsored a new member. There were twelve members who sponsored twenty eight new members. The growth of our council provides us the funds and manpower to spread Catholic values through donations and works of charity. If you know someone who would make a good Knight talk to our Membership Director, Paul St. Clair. Contact Paul at [email protected]. And if you are a Catholic lady, you can join our Donne-Gals by contacting Julie Maher at [email protected].

On Tuesday, July 19th at our regularly scheduled membership meeting, our membership voted to provide the Building Association a loan in the form of a line of credit. Over the next two years the Building Association will be implementing a plan to increase rental business and revenue to become self-sustaining. To help attract business, the lounge has been given a fresh new look including carpet and paint. Thank you to all my brother Knights who volunteered their time to get this project done. And a special thanks to Ed Dowd for supervising the painting and keeping it organized and efficient. The place looks great.

Happy Summer! The Donne Gals are in the final stages of compiling the applications for the Living Your Faith Scholarship that are due at the end of June. After all the applications have been received, a committee to review the candidates will meet. A winner will be announced in July and will be awarded at a later date in the summer. Good luck to all the girls who have applied. Our next regular meeting will resume on the third Thursday in September.

Hope you have a safe and blessed summer.Respectfully Submitted,Julie Maher, Corresponding Secretary

from 6pm to 8pm. This is a free event to experience the culinary expertise of our preferred caterers. You will have the opportunity to taste their culinary creations and ask questions of the chef’s. Event pricing and menus will be available. There will also be a display example of the set up: linens, plating, chair covers, etc. All are welcome to experience what Monaghan Banquet has to offer. Stop by for a few minutes, your support is needed.

The Monaghan golf outing fundraiser was a rousing success. Attendance grew to 92 golfers this year and the Plymouth Miracle League will be receiving a donation of at least $1,500 from the Council. Thank you to all attendees and to our golf committee who worked hard at putting on a great event. A special thanks to Sam Aldridge who has chaired this event the last three years and grew it into a successful fundraiser.

We will be having a half way to St. Paddy’s Day celebration at the council on Saturday, September 10th. Irish food, Irish bands and a lot of good friends. Mark your calendar and look for more details in future newsletters and on the website under the Upcoming Events tab.

There will be a St. Mary’s of Redford All Alumni reunion at the council on Friday, September 23rd. See the ad in this newsletter.

Our Lecturer, Dave DiPonio, is scheduling a field trip to the Ford

Rouge Plant on Thursday, September 29th. Those going will car pool from the council at 9:30am and lunch at Miller’s Bar after the tour. Anticipated arrival back at the council is 3pm. The cost for the tour is $17 for adults or $15.25 seniors and does not include lunch. If you are interested in this adventure, contact Dave at [email protected] or 313-363-6153. Remember to visit the website regularly to stay in tune with the events at your council. Go to www.monaghankofc.org and scroll all the way to the bottom of the home page to sign up for the newsletter.

One last thing. We are looking for volunteers to help with Bingo. The council is offering a great community activity with bingo and it brings in funds to help our charities. Volunteers do earn a stipend and a couple of drinks, but it’s also a great way to give back to your council and enjoy some comradery with your fellow brothers. Bingo is Tuesday mornings and Wednesday evening, and you can volunteer to work whatever fits your schedule whether it’s once a week or once a month or a couple of hours. If you can volunteer contact Dan Connor at 248-476-7624.

If you haven’t been to the Council lately, come see the new look!

Patrick Maher, Grand Knight
