Planning and initial costing for outsidepublicationsDuring the period 2010-13, the Production Section undertook a number of prestigious publications of outside clients which were highly appreciated. To name a few: Indian Pharmacopoeia 2010 of I P Commission, Govt of India, (having approx. 3000 pages printed in three volumes); CSIR-INDIA Science & Innovation for Transforming India of CSIR Hq.; Bhartiya Antarctic Sambhaar Tantra of National Centre for Antarctic & Ocean Research (NCAOR), Goa.

To undertake external publications, Production Section first plans regarding size,

printing paper, binding, mode of printing, etc., depending upon the content, readership and budget of the publication. The tentative cost is prepared which is then sent to the clients for approval. An Activity Schedule is also prepared by the Production Section which is followed strictly in giving delivery of the printed copies on time.

Production handling of publications tillprintingProduction Section gives instructions on the hard copy for margins, print area, suitable typography for text and heading, etc. so that the final page looks the way it was planned initially. Proof readers of the Production Section ensure the quality of publication. Production Section then gets the cover design and art work made or improved by the Art & Graphic Section and checks the final pages complete with corrected text matter, art works, tables, etc. for getting the final approval of the clients, which is then sent for printing.

ProductionCosting, Billing and PaymentcollectionAfter printed and bound copies are received, Production Section arranges delivery of the printed copies right to the doorstep of the clients and calculates the actual cost of printing in order to send the bills to the clients. The follow-up for payments is another important area looked after by the Production, i.e. keeping coordination with the Accounts Section in tallying the payments received.
