Issue 3 Term 4 Week 5 Monday 12th November 2018
SCHOOL INFORMATION PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Last week our GVPS P&C Association elected its new com-mittee for 2019. Thank you to our outgoing 2018 com-mittee. I look forward to the year ahead working with the new team. Our P&C committee work very hard to support all children at the school, please consider joining in 2019 for the benefit of your child and all children in the school.
Congratulations to our Stage 3 students and teacher Miss Zielonka on a brilliant effort in winning the NSW and ACT Primary Schools Divi-sion for the annual Write a Book in a Day writing competition. Truly a magnificent effort all round. You can read their full sto-ry at
https://www.writeabookinaday.com/member/__book_uploads/670_book_1533109636_64.pdf
Congratulations also to Breanna De Groot for a wonderful effort at the NSW PSSA Athletics Championships. Breanna competed in the long jump and high jump events. She jumped a per-sonal best of 1m35cm in the high jump that saw her finish in 11th place out of the 41 jumpers. Great effort Breanna.
For the past couple of years our school has implemented a technology initiative known as BYOD (Bring Your Own De-vice). This program runs for Years 3-6. This is where stu-dents bring a device (not a mobile phone) to school that connects to the school’s wireless network. If your child is in Year 3 next year you wil shortly receive a copy of the school policy in this area to assist you in making a decision about whether or not to participate in this program. Students who do not bring their own device to school use the school purchased devices so that no child is at any disadvantage in the use of technology at school.
Many of you will know about the Cubby House program that has been running at GVPS for the past 12 years. This has been run as a transition to school program that has been managed by GVPS.
From 2019, a new targeted transition to school program delivered and managed by Mission Australia in collabora-tion with their partners will be implemented as part of the Communities for Children (C4C) program. More details about enrolment and contact details from Mission Australia is to come.
