CONGRATULATIONS to No-buhleKubhekaonbeing select-ed as one of the Province'syoung achievers 2014 by uM-vithi Youth Development in afunction last Friday night in Pi-etermaritzburg.

Nobuhle's achievementswere recognised in terms of anumber of entrepreneurialprojects successfullyundertak-en by her.

These include her computerschool, the herbal petroleumjelly (uNgqo), poultry farmingand selling eggs at the Phasiwecommunity farmatSevenOaks.

Her namewas submitted anda video by the organizers of her

various projects was made.A team from Brazil, which is

looking to fund such develop-ment projects, is to visit Nobuh-le in September. Prior to this,DTI personnel will visit the co-operative, Sesukesdze primaryco-op, consisting of Nobuhleand sevenmembers and assist-

ed by the Departments of Eco-nomics and Tourism and Agri-culture.

In an interview with Grey-town Gazette, Nobuhle empha-sised that without the supportof Umvoti community mem-bers, she would not haveachieved what she has - fromher computer school to her skincare products and producingeggs on her farm, as well as thepersonnel for the two Depart-ments.

After the receipt of thisaward, the co-op received a re-quest from a donor to look intomethods and projects assistingwomen in rural areas in regardto various aspects of electricity.

A TEENAGER, alleged to be high onthe drug Whoonga, was caught red-handed when he tried to break intoa lady’s home in Enhlalakahle veryearly on Sunday morning. Neigh-bours, hearing the lady’s scream,came out in force and attacked thesuspect.Around 5.30am, it is reported that

the18yearold tried tobreakthewin-dow of the house. A next door neigh-bour who saw the incident tried tostop him. Others heard the screamsand came out and tackled the sus-pect. It is alleged that the 18 year oldhas carried out a number of burglar-ies to fund his drug addiction.Greytown Police were called and

the 18 year old was placed under ar-rest and taken to Greytown Hopsitalfor treatment for the injuries he hadreceived.AspokesmanfortheGreytownPolicesaid that while understanding howangry community members were,no-one should take the law into theirown hands.

NITSI (the Umvoti FPA tracker dog) has a newhandler and an another in training - MariusKoen and Goodman Ngcobo, both Buffalo Se-curity employees.

There has been a smooth hand overwith thenew handlers; Marius has prior experience asa dog handler.

This team has been very active, respondingto a number of complaints in the area, mostofwhichhavehadasuccessful outcome.Theseinclude, arson, cable theft, house-breaking’s,armed robbery, stock theft and poaching.Some of these successes have resulted in ar-rests of suspects.

Nitsi's ex-handler Cole, and his new houndAmigo, have been transferred to Richmondwith Buffalo Security. Within three weeks ofarriving inRichmond,whilst tracking for threekilometers, they founda suspectwhohadbeenwanted fora fewmonths forarson related firesin the area.

A positive ID was confirmed and an arrestwasmade. Itmustbenoted that this isanexcel-lent achievement for the team, as Amigo is avery young hound with limited experience.

Nitsi is paid forby theUmvoti FireProtectionAssociation and is available to paid up mem-bers for any fire related or security matter.

AFTER four months of planning, riding tracks and puttingthe finishing touches to the event, the team of RogerScheffer, Deon Bruss and Mark Dean launched the Valleyto Valley Navigational Enduro at St Cathryns over theweekend of 18 to 20 July. One hundred and three riderstook part, coming from as far as Pretoria, Nelspruit, Jhband KZN. There was even a rider from Northern Angola.

Valley to Valley was an exciting two day navigationalenduro. Riders had to ride and navigate by GPS predeter-mined tracks. Day one consisted of a 98km track startingat St Cathryns and riding into the Tugela valley. Day twowas a shorter 60km track again, starting at St Cathrynsand heading into Lilani Valley. Feedback from the riderswas that it was one of the best events they had takenpart in - it had been such a great weekend they will bereturning next year with their mates. This event, set tobecome an annual event, will attract a lot of interestin the area and also bring in much needed outside revenue.

The organizers of Valley to Valley would like to thank

all the land owners who gave permission for the ridersto go through their properties - without their co-operation,Valley to Valley could not have happened. THE U13 girls' hockey teamstarted their season on Satur-day, drawing their matchesagainstGertMaritz andHowickand ending up 0-2 to Scottsvilleand 0-1 to Underberg.

While the girls were honing

their hockey skills, a group ofathletes were attending theGreytown athletics clinic inpreparation for the athleticsseason this term. A big thankyou goes to the organisers ofthis helpful clinic.

Amidst the bustling, busybusiness of the Warwick Trian-gle, the Grade 11 geographyclass saw yet another facet ofour diverse country.

Ably led by Patrick, theirguide, they learned about the

historyand layoutof thevariousinformal markets as he ex-plained about the goods. Afterthis, a trip to the Maritime Mu-seum and the SASA Sugar Ter-minal -equally impressiveplac-es to experience.

Our Grade 10’s were treatedto a weekend in Burg Wilden-stein, a castle that has beenturned into a youth hostel butretains the echoes of bygonedays.

From there they walked thefour kilometres to the city ofBeuron, where a monk im-pressed themwith his personaltestimony.

No trip to Germany is com-pletewithout a visit to the castleat Lichtenstein, where the'Klettergarten' tested their fearof heights and balancing abilityas they climbed the challengingapparatus.

term. And without even realising it, we have been learn-ing about opposites too - inside and outside toys, oldand new toys, hard, plastic toys and soft, fluffy toys.

We also got to see toys our great-grandparents playedwith on our trip to the HMB Museum.

A big thank you to the fun and interesting lesson ontoys from the past by Tante Inge von Fintel (the curator)and Petra Reibeling (the assistant curator).

In the end, we all agreed that, even though thesetoys might be really old, we would still have loads offun playing with them today.
