GSBC Gospel Gazette…”PREPARING THE TOTAL MAN”
Seek, Save, Support, Shape, & Serve
In a positive and spiritual way, there comes a time in life where we must STUDY GOD’s WORD! By
way of sharing knowledge, laughter and tears of joy that this goal was accomplished. A week’s long
session with an overwhelming total of 200+ attendees, Greater Springfield showed the community
that we are “ON THE MOVE.”
The initial celebration began on Saturday afternoon with several members along with Pastor
Wheeler, walked the surrounding areas to distribute flyers and some even ministered. On the fol-
lowing Sunday, the GSBC family fellowshipped in the parking lot with fun, games and food and
hats off to our main chef as who we call, “Chef Der- rick.” All enjoyed
the man made meal as we prepared to study and worship for the
SPIRITUAL MEALS TO BE FED OUR SOULS and HEARTS
THRU THE WEEK.
Vacation Bible School was chaired by Sis. Beverly Davis and co-
chaired by Rev. Rethia Tucker. We enjoyed new and seasoned insights of
various teachers ranging from ages 20-70. What a BLESSING to
share in the knowledge. Classes were broken out into age groups and
such joy we had when the pre-schoolers and the Juniors touched the hearts of many.
Dressing out daily in the colors to match the word to be delivered each night was the added touch of
unity with the word.
MONDAY: Moving with God towards JUSTICE (BLUE)
TUESDAY: Moving with God towards GREATNESS (RED)
WEDNESDAY: Moving with God towards BLESSING (GREEN)
THURSDAY: Moving with God towards TRUTH (PURPLE)
FRIDAY: Moving with Jesus towards RECONCILIATION (GOLD)
“Now those who were scattered went from place to place, proclaiming the word.” Acts 8:4
Each night began with Praise and Worship offered up by the GSBC Praise Team; The official open-
ing with the pledges and then on to the studying of the word in the classes; refreshments and class
activities. On Friday night, the Junior class touched our hearts and really showed us what REC-
ONCILIATION meant to them.
……..and you say, what did I miss? YOU MISSED A TREAT and we are looking for you to join us
next year as we press toward the goal of continuing to reach out to the community and bring in
more fishermen of God’s word. When the bus stops at your house, get your pen and paper, your bag
and most of all, bring your bible as we continue to BE ON THE MOVE FOR GOD!

Lord’s Blessings upon us, but to pray for the Ultimate Weapon… 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
4:For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling
down of strong holds; 5:Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth
itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the
obedience of Christ;
Our Under-Shepherd, Sons and Daughters and Deacons turned their face to God and Thanked
Him for His Son Jesus; Prayed for the
The Under-Shepherd Mercy, Joy & Patience

Cooperate with each other. He wants to see more people join the

of Rev. Wheeler and he wants to have the opportunity to preach

Ty Quan believes that God has laid His hands on him to go about and minister.
Pastor Wheeler’s Corner Faith - did you know this…………Everything in the Christian walk is based on faith. Anything that is based
on human effort is of the flesh and is unacceptable to God. Each man or woman must first find salvation at the
cross of Jesus before any other act can be of the Spirit. It is the work of God. He gives us the faith to believe,
He draws us by His Spirit to the cross, He reveals the Son to us, and He creates a new creation when we sur-
render to Jesus Christ.
We are all empowered by the Spirit to walk in faith; however, there are some that will be given a gift of faith for the purpose of profiting all. Each gift of the Spirit is given so that the entire congregation can be built up and edified by God. There are two important things we must realize concerning faith – and all spiritual gifts. First, the gifts are distributed by the will of God and by the power of God. No one becomes great in faith because they have developed faith. The same holds true for all things of the Spirit. Self-discipline is important and does benefit us; however, our gifts are just that – gifts. We do not merit the gifts of God nor do we have a choice in the spiritual gifts we are given. God distributes each individually as He wills. We are responsible for using these gifts for the purpose of building up the body. Secondly, we have no bragging rights. Anyone who boasts the scriptures ask the question, “Why do you boast as though you had not received it?” How can I boast about my gift as though I have done something to merit it? How can I criticize someone who does not have my gifts? This is the work of God and is not the result of hu-man merit or spiritual worthiness. In fact, the majority of the time, God often lays hold of those who are failing spiritually, transforms their lives and sets them on a new path with a gift by His Spirit and the power to do His will. Why does God empower the unworthy and ungodly? Who but God can get the glory when a vile sinner is suddenly transformed into a godly man or woman with power and a vision to do God’s will? Gifts are by grace, not merit.

Ms. Xernona Clayton, Founder and CEO of The Trumpet Awards.
A lady of elegance, dignity and full of laughter. Ms. Clayton truly
enlightens our morning with joy and Words of Inspiration. She
made it very clear in her message as she firmly spoke to both Men
and Women reminding each of us of our respective places in God.
Being who she is in the public eye, she went without making it
known to all of us that just as God commanded, her husband, the
Honorable Judge Brady (who sat with continuous smiles), comes
first.
Clayton ‘s life advice:” Young people just starting out often ask me
what they can do to hasten their climb up the ladder of achieve-
ment, and I remind them that when you look at the pool of people
out there, you can arrive at some conclusions. We have a norm of
human behavior, a way of describing what average is. But there is
nothing special about being average. Therefore, if you want to be
singled out, you have to exceed the norm, you have to try to do the
extraordinary, and you have to strive to be a step above." Clayton
continues to follow her own advice, to the benefit of those around
her.

PASTOR WHEELER’S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
Sponsored by the Pastor’s Aide Ministry
Thanks to all who helped to make Pastor Wheeler’s
birthday a SUCCESS! We enjoyed the fellowship and
feast. Pastor also thanks each and everyone for their
gifts of love, their acts of kindness and most of all the
prayers.

Praise him by blowing trumpets.
Praise him with harps and lyres.
Praise him with tambourines and dancing.
Praise him with stringed instruments and flutes.
Praise him with clashing cymbals. Praise him with clanging
cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
~ Psalm 150:3-6
Oh what a time we had, praising God!
Heaven smiled and shined a gracious light, during the combined anniversary of the Male Chorus, The Springfield Heirs,
C. E. Calloway Choir & the Sanctuary Choir on Sunday, July 19, 2009. A time of praise and wonderful fellowship took place as
each choir celebrated with family, friends, and various choirs, groups, and ensembles helped celebrate with love and a great time
in Christ Jesus!
Our very own, Sis. Pearl McCollum served as Mistress of Ceremony and with her special time and personality, she gave
the program and “old time way” praise! Our honorees proceeded in by directresses, Rev. Krista P. Jones and Rev. Rethia P.
Tucker! Each choir excellently rendered soul stirring selections, each bringing a soulful flavor all of their own!
Guests choirs and soloist consisted of some of Atlanta’s finest; Hunter Hill Baptist Church Mass Choir, Wright Smith
Gospel Choir, and the Elite Praise Dance Team. But nothing stirred hearts more than to hear our very own members come in
their special way; Robert’s Angels, an RL Price Ensemble Reunion, and Dea. Eddie Matthews, not one, but his two groups, send
up a praise on high!
Congratulations to all of the choirs, directresses, and the musicians! You are truly gifted and talented and we
wish you many more!

BOOKBAG BLESSING
...Thanks to everyone for their support
Bells ringing, children loading the bus, backpacks going, pens and paper, diction-
aries, glue, staplers
GSBC thank you again for stepping up to the plate and doing your
part. The Youth Depart- ment sponsored its Annual Book Bag
Blessing and children from the community as well as children
of this fold were abun- dantly blessed with supplies to carry
them throughout the 2009-2010 school year.
Rev. Wheeler was held hostage on the church van on August
2nd until the bus became filled with supplies. Well, he didn’t
have to sit long because our church family and sponsors helped to achieve this goal quickly.
On August 8th, we were able to bless all that came by to participate in the program. Not only did we give
away supplies but a Fashion Show, Open Mic and Hair and Barber moments were shared with the children to
help them prepare for school in the most POSITIVE and UPBEAT way.
The Youth Department is wishing all a SUCCESSFUL year!

“
Refresh, Renew and Rejuvenate”, and that’s what we did…
It was a refreshing, ear popping, eye opener as Sister Monica Stephens song for us,
“Lord Keep Me Day by Day!”
and it was sensational with her soulful voice.
We kicked off revival Wednesday, July 1, 2009 thru July 3, 2009.
Dr. Frank Ray, Sr. of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church of Memphis, TN came and brought us the Word.
On Wednesday, we heard John 17:1, “It‟s Praying Time”, reminding us where in the bible you can find „The Lord‟s Prayer.‟ He also
expounded on 3 ways to read the bible, Topical, Textural and Expository. There are some words from the wise that allowed me to stop and
meditate for numerous situations in my everyday living.
When you don‟t have information, you use imagination. Sometimes we speak about things we hear and assume that this is the truth,
when instead we have not taken the time to seek and find the truth for ourselves.
Sometimes we need/must read the bible for ourselves to know the written truths.
“Preaching will bring you out of the world, but Teaching will bring the world out of you.”
Oh yes, just one more: “A parasol will protect you from the storm; the Holy Spirit will protect you from the storms of life.”
Dr. Ray kept it rolling and it seems to me he might be so familiar with these quotes from living in and by the words. After the first day,
I could hardly wait until Thursday, 7:00pm to get back for more.
On that Thursday, we enjoyed our very own dance ministry as they performed to “Now Behold the Lamb” and they did an outstanding job. Dr. Frank Ray,
Sr. delivered the word from Genesis 5:21-27, “And HE Walked with God.” He started off by making us laugh, but if you don‟t have teeth, don‟t laugh too
hard. On this day, he told us some important things we should do for God:
Worship Him Walk with Him Work for Him
For the Lord desires our worship and yes He deserves our worship. Highlights of this sermon were the breakdown of the count of muscles, bone cells and
vessels, the number of teeth and yes even how many hairs in the ear…”WOWED on this”… Dr. Ray reminded us we are a part of Adam‟s family and in this
family; you are bound to return to dust to dust and ashes to ashes. Think as it is stated and promised, in Jesus‟ family, you are guaranteed eternal life by
walking with God. Since God never changes, it‟s important to be on His side. When you walk with Him, you do not remain in your sinful ways.
After going to revival Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, I was torn because of previous engagements
planned for Friday, July 3rd. I was not able to attend service but God shows Favor as it was possible for me
to still receive the Word. The Audiovisual Ministry has copies of each service on CD for a small price of $5.00. And that put “Joy in my heart.” When I
listened to the message for Friday‟s service, it was rendered from James 1:1-2, “Count it all Joy.”
Books written by the Revivalist for the week were also still available:
1. A Cure for a Troubled Heart ($25.00)
2. 365 days in the Presence of God ($15.00)
3. And He Walked with God ($15.00)

Did you
Know……….
The 4th Wednesday in
September is
How It Began …….See You at the Pole was started in 1990 by some teens in Burle-
son, Texas. One Saturday night they felt compelled to pray, and so they went to
three different schools and prayed at each schools flagpole. From there a challenge
was issued to students throughout Texas to meet at their flagpoles and pray simul-
taneously. So at 7am on September 12, 1999 over 45,000 students met at their
flagpoles to pray before school.
The concept ballooned from there. Word spread quickly across the U.S. and on Sep-
tember 11, 1991 the students got their National Day of Prayer, as over one million
students from all around the country gathered around their flagpoles at 7am to
pray. Today that number has grown to 3 million students in the U.S. and there are
also students in 20 other countries.
SYATP, or See You At the Pole What is See You at the Pole, or SYATP? See You at the Pole is a completely student
led event in which students meet at their school’s flagpole before school on the fourth
Wednesday of every September to pray for your school, the students, teachers,
government, and our nation. It is important to note that See You at the Pole is not
a demonstration or political rally. It is an opportunity for Christian students to gather
together to pray.
We encourage all our youth that believe in the word of Our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ to boldly stand and pray this
Wednesday, September 23, 2009 . Matthew 18:19-20 states: Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father
which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name,
there am I in the midst of them. Sister Sonya Woodley, Adjunct Writer
