BATS Theatre is an intimate and affordable presenting venue dedicated to fostering the development of practitioners, audiences and New Zealand performance work. We also have a bar!

This is the 70th edition of Guano, BATS quarterly magazine. Seventy issues over seventeen years means there have been more than two hundred and forty thousand copies of Guano printed... not bad for the little theatre that could.

You could spend all day looking through their pages - spotting some of New Zealand’s most well known performers in their early days, remembering shows you loved or hated, and meeting the staff of years past. Could they have guessed that one day someone like you would be holding the

In England they are trying hard to rid the streets of the lower classes.

Through no fault of her own, Through no fault of her own, Betty the maid is thrown in with the scamps and tramps on a ship bound for the factories of Australia. The 1980s. The wind of change blows straight into the face of time. Klaus, lead rocker of KrautRock band the Scorpions (infamous for the most sexist album cover of all time) has a musical epiphany that could topple the Berlin Wall. Prime topple the Berlin Wall. Prime Minister David Lange and his speechwriter/sweetheart Margaret Pope are nutting out Lange's famous Oxford Union speech on nuclear disarmament. As Gorbachev drowns his sorrows in drowns his sorrows in Perestroika vodka, folk-singer Pania prepares to deliver the world a terrible message.
