Jump Rope for Heart is a fantastic physical activity and fundraising program that has been run by the Heart Foundation for over 35 years. It’s a great way for children to keep fit and learn new skills, but it also helps raise funds for vital heart research and education programs. Since Jump Rope for Heart started in 1983, schools like ours have raised more than $75 million for the Heart Foundation’s lifesaving work. Together Guise raised an incredible $895 and this money will go towards vital heart research and education programs. We’ve loved seeing so many smiling faces skipping on the playground and in sports lessons. My thanks goes to Miss Lissner who coordinated the Jump Rope for Heart program at our school and organised a fun-filled Jump Off Day that was enjoyed by staff, students and families.

Jump Rope for Heart Last fortnight we held our Jump Rope for Heart Jump

Off Day as an end of term showcase of the students’

improved skipping skills and to celebrate the fundraising

money we have raised.

Jump Rope for Heart is a fantastic physical activity and

fundraising program that has been run by the Heart

Foundation for over 35 years. It’s a great way for

children to keep fit and learn new skills, but it also helps

raise funds for vital heart research and education

programs. Since Jump Rope for Heart started in 1983,

schools like ours have raised more than $75 million for

the Heart Foundation’s lifesaving work. Together Guise

raised an incredible $895 and this money will go towards

vital heart research and education programs. We’ve

loved seeing so many smiling faces skipping on the

playground and in sports lessons. My thanks goes to Miss

Lissner who coordinated the Jump Rope for Heart

program at our school and organised a fun-filled Jump

Off Day that was enjoyed by staff, students and

families.

Fire in the Fields Performance Last night I had the pleasure of watching our Junior and

Senior Dance Groups perform at the Fire in the Fields

performance at Ingleburn HS. This was a very

entertaining night and I would like to congratulate our

students who performed wonderfully to a packed

audience with great confidence. My thanks also to Miss

Lissner and Mrs Dobinson for leading these groups and

coordinating the event. Our students should feel very

proud of their brilliant performances!

Book Week – ‘Reading is my Secret Power!’ Students and staff all enjoyed a wonderful morning on

Thursday last week for Book Week. The theme this year

was ‘Reading is my Secret Power!’ and everyone had fun

dressing up for the book character parade. It was

wonderful to see so many parents, grandparents and

friends join us to visit on the day. My special thanks to

Miss Rossiter for organising the parade and activities.

SASS Recognition Week There are many people who do different jobs in our school

system to ensure everything runs smoothly. You all

probably know our wonderful staff working in the front

office, but we also have Support Staff working in the

library and school grounds, as well as in classrooms. This

week is School Administrative and Support Staff

Recognition Week, a time to acknowledge and thank the

often unsung heroes in our public schools. It is our chance

to say a special thank you to all of them in recognition of

the valuable services they provide to our school

community and the education of our students. If you are

in school this week, you might like to add your personal

thanks to our great team of friendly and hard-working

SAS and Support Staff. They are definitely

‘Superheroes’ in our eyes!!

Public Education Foundation Secretary’s Award On Tuesday night I was invited to attend the Minister’s and

Secretary’s Awards for Excellence presentation ceremony

at Sydney Town Hall, where our very own Mrs Heyburgh was

the recipient of a Secretary's Award for Excellent Service.

This ceremony provides an excellent opportunity to

recognise individual staff who have made a significant

contribution to the achievement of the goals of NSW Public

Education. Her award was presented for her unrelenting

focus on evidence-based teaching and ongoing improvement

of student learning and her passion and dedication for her

work as Deputy Principal Instructional Leader at Guise

Public School. I am sure you will join with me in

congratulating Mrs Heyburgh on this significant

achievement.

Tell Them From Me Survey I am delighted that this term, our school, will participate in

a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From

Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors

that are known to affect academic achievement and other

student outcomes.

You may remember that our students also participated in a

Tell Them From Me student survey in Term 1 this year.

Asking students to complete the survey twice in one year

allows us to identify trends in student responses as well as

track engagement and motivation across the school year.

More information about the survey is available at:

http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au

I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The

survey is conducted online and will typically take less than

30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during

school hours between 26 August and 25 October.

Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.

A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the

survey has been sent home with students. If you do not want

your child or children to participate, please return the form

to school by tomorrow. Further information is available

from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-

parents.

Father’s Day Just a reminder that tomorrow morning is our Father’s Day

Breakfast at school. We are looking forward to seeing all

the Dads, Grandads and carers who are coming to share a

BBQ breakfast with their children.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable Father’s Day this Sunday!

Have a wonderful week!
