FROM THE DIRECTOR:

HAPPY NEW YEAR Chapter “O”. Vina and I are looking forward to the
challenges of being your chapter director, for at least our 6 month
probationary period. I want to thank those that were former officers and staff.
Thanks to our past Director, Bill and Cheryl Cook. Bill has decided to leave the world of retirement and go back to work, all your efforts leading Chapter “O” last year, are appreciated. Jim Dillard wants to just ride, so he stepped down from being ride coordinator. A great ride takes many hours of planning. Thank you Jim for the great rides you put on last year. Jean Potwora decided to let someone else do the chapter scrap book, is there a better scrap booker in the entire state? Putting together the scrap book takes many hours, and your skill and experience has produced the finest scrap books in the district. Walter will retire this spring, some think he is already retired, I suspect a long ride is in their future. Thank you Jean. Bill Suggs has been our web master for a number of years and has passed the web page on to our new web master, Roy Miller. Thank you Bill. All ready the web page has a new feel to it. I hope the chapter likes the changes. I think the hardest job in the chapter has to be the news letter editor, Judi Laux has given the news letter editor up and I have gladly taken the challenge. Thank you Judi for all the time you put into publishing the news letter. Judi will stay on as Member Enhancement Coordinator, so keep your membership up or you will hear from Judi. I am happy to announce that David Laux will be an assistant chapter director. Being a past chapter director, I appreciate his insight and inputs to managing the chapter. Jean Stout has agreed to be our educator. Jean is an excellent instructor and is one of only a few people in the district that can teach the OCP program. She also can teach the Horizon program and medic first aid. I hope to assist Jean in rider education and LTP programs. Jean is very valuable to the chapter and the district. Lorraine has agreed to continue as the chapter Sun Shine Lady. Thank you Lorraine So lets start the new year and the new directorship with a philosophy that I hope will guide us through the challenges that await us. First off, Vina and I love to ride our Goldwing. If you think I can just walk out to the garage, start the wing and go for a ride without Vina, forget about it! We bought our Goldwing before ever knowing or joining GWRRA. So let this be a year of great rides. Wing Ding is in Knoxville, Tennessee, I think we can find a few roads to ride in the area. There are many roads not too far from us that provide hills, curves, and great scenery. I hope to revisit Missouri, and plan an over night trip to the Ozarks. What’s happening this month. On January 15 we have Rider Education class scheduled at 1PM at the American Legion Post in Maryville. After training we will have a dinner ride to the Lafayette No 1 Fire Company, 1801 Park Ave, St. Louis, Mo 63104, near Lafayette Square. Next is the winter warm up, January 21st and 22nd at the Decatur Conference Center. Make your reservations, send in your reservation and get ready for a great time. The biggest challenge I see the next year, is declining participation in the chapter. I know the economy is taking it’s toll. GWRRA membership is down, motorcycle sales are down, however there is nothing new here, that isn’t everywhere. I think if we focus on why we all own Goldwings, riding and having fun, somehow we can
find enough time and money to keep Chapter “O” active. Happy New Year from Ed and Vina, and let’s ride!
I’ll do the newsletter next month. . . . . . Ed

About GWRRA The Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) is the world's largest single-marquee social organization for owners and
riders of Honda Gold Wing/Valkyrie motorcycles -- and some would say, the world's largest family. Dedicated to our motto,
Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge, GWRRA members enjoy the freedom of belonging to a not-for-profit, non-religious
and non-political organization.
Founded in 1977, GWRRA has grown to more than 80,000 U.S., Canadian and international members in 53 foreign countries
in just 31 years.
Over 800 active Chapters are managed by 4,000 volunteer leaders working with members to foster safe, enjoyable riding while
also working to improve the public image of motorcycling.
Once you join GWRRA, you can participate with as many Chapters as you choose. You decide your own level of involvement
and time. Wherever you go, wherever you travel, you're welcomed. GWRRA membership opens doors to friendship
everywhere you ride! Monthly Chapter get-togethers (often light-hearted exchanges of information at a breakfast location) are
pleasant, social occasions. There are no expectations, riding requirements, elections, politics, required uniforms or Chapter
dues.
We invite you to share the joys of owning and riding your Gold Wing/Valkyrie with 80,000 people like you worldwide! We
even guarantee you'll be glad you did!
Who belongs to GWRRA?
GWRRA members are men and women from all walks of life with varied interests and backgrounds. We have riders in their
teens, riders in their 90's and every age in between! Many ride solo; many ride with their children or grandchildren! Some ride
Wings that are new; some ride Wings that are "classics." Some belong for the technical information we share; some just for the
enjoyment of riding with friends.
As a family organization, typical GWRRA fun includes restaurant runs, picnic rides, campouts or CPR/first aid workshops
conducted in a wholesome, fun-filled environment suitable for all family members. We also have dances, charity runs, parades,
ice cream socials and riding clinics.
To be a member of GWRRA, there are only two requirements: own a Honda Gold Wing/Valkyrie and keep your membership
fees current. We have individual or family memberships available. For non Gold Wing/Valkyrie owners there is now a
classification of our membership titled Associate, which is also available as individual or family.
Most Miles Ridden in 2011
How many miles do you rile in a year???
Ed is proposing a contest for 2011. A trophy to be awarded to the rider who rides the most miles
on their Goldwing in 2011. The trophy, that will be awarded annually, will be presented to the winner
at the Chapter Christmas party. To participate, write down the odometer mileage on your Goldwing.
Please bring your mileage, and name to the chapter gathering on Saturday or email Ed at
A good time was had by all. Great decorations by Ed & Vina. Great Dirty Bingo (rob your
