Welcome to hairdressing at Merton College.

As part of your course you will learn the skills and knowledge required, to succeed in a job in the hairdressing industry. Our courses are designed to build on your interest, passion, knowledge and skills for the hairdressing industry. Covering a wide range of skills from consultation, shampooing, styling women’s hair, cutting, colouring to reception duties and promoting additional services and products. This book will give you an introduction to some of the topics you can expect to learn and give you a head start when you begin your course in September.

Design a Mood Board

The hairdressing industry is very creative, you need to

develop your artistic skills to gain the most out of your

studies.

Part of your course requires you to create an image

based on a theme within the hair and beauty industry.

To do this you need to create a mood board, a mood

board is a collection of ideas and images based on a

given theme.

A mood board reflects the thought processes and inspiration behind the image to be

created it will help you choose hairstyles, themes, colours, make-up, clothes and

accessories.
