Course Overview This course is a full-time one year course. The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing (QCF) is a substantial vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as a hairdresser. This qualification is based on the hairdressing National Occupational Standards (NOS) qualification and is recognised by the UK's leading professional body (The Hairdressing Council) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a junior hairdresser.

Where can this lead? Learners who complete this qualification are eligible to become a graduate State Registered Hairdresser (SRH) with The Hairdressing Council. Career opportunities as a junior hairdresser exist in a variety of contexts, including:

● Commercial hair salons ● Specialist African type hair salons ● Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings ● Product manufacturing and training

Course Entry Requirements Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 1 qualification in hairdressing and/or a successful skills test and interview.

Course Breakdown This qualification has been specifically designed for the 16-19 age groups, and will develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to prepare learners for employment as a junior hairdresser. Learners will have their hairdressing skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment. This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior hairdresser including health and safety, client consultation, shampoo and conditioning hair, the research unit - working in the hair industry cutting women’s hair, colour and lighten hair and the art of dressing hair. These units are all mandatory. Learners will also develop their understanding and skills by selecting a number of optional specialist units which include reception duties, create an image based on a theme, provide scalp massage services, promoting products and services to clients and colouring hair. The full list of optional units is presented in the learner Record of Assessment book (RoA) (specification). This qualifications structure provides learners with the flexibility to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills depending upon their designated career pathway as a junior hairdresser.

Enrichment Opportunities Lessons will take place in our fully equipped hairdressing salon at the Kevin Shore Academy and will be taught by ‘industry standard’ qualified tutors. Students will work towards an accredited hairdressing qualification. Students will have the opportunity to participate in regular visits to hairdressing salons.

Additional Information Whilst the primary purpose of this qualification is to prepare learners for employment as a junior hairdresser, learners may choose to further develop their knowledge and skills by undertaking a Technical Level qualification in hairdressing at Level 3. These include: - VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing (QCF) - VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing (QCF) - VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing Studies (QCF)
