Halcyon® was created in response to the demands of extreme technical diving. In the early 1990s, Halcyon® founders were exploring deep wrecks and long-distance caves, including the world-renowned Wakulla Springs.

No other site can draw the comparison of being the Mt. Everest of cave diving: massive conduit (often over a 30 meters in diameter), deep, multi-branching passages, and passages explored to nearly 10km. Dives in Wakulla are the longest ever done: bottom times for the lead team can exceed ten hours at a depth of 90m. By the time the team exits the water, they will have spent nearly 30 hours underwater.

Deep wrecks and long-distance cave diving are both physically and mentally demanding. Halcyon® CEO Jarrod Jablonski has invested nearly 20 years leading just this sort of extreme expedition in projects around the world. As Global Underwater Explorers (www.gue.com) President and the lead Woodville Karst Plain explorer, Jarrod Jablonski has more exploration dives in Wakulla than anyone alive. In fact, Halcyon® was founded in large part to be able to provide the gear he needed to make the dives as safely as possible. This history remains a vibrant part of the daily operations through the daily management of Halcyon® COO Casey McKinlay. Casey is the WKPP Project Director and oversees the planning for each exploration dive weekend. Casey also joins Jarrod and teams of explorers for expeditions across the globe. Over the course of these projects, dozens of divers spend hundreds of hours in a range of extreme underwater settings.

Exploration divers who push the limits of underwater exploration demand that their Halcyon® equipment performs fl awlessly.

Halcyon® also soon discovered that their pursuit of quality in the diving equipment could radically improve the diving comfort of the newest recreational diver. As a result most equipment and gear made by Halcyon® and proposed in this catalogue will fi t all needs and adapt the different styles of diving a diver may have or want to face during his lifetime.

This dedication to quality is at the heart of Halcyon’s quest to produce the best possible equipment and then to back it up with technical support starting the moment it leaves the factory.

Regardless of your personal diving interest, you can be assured every piece of Halcyon® equipment is designed with the same emphasis on quality and reliability.

______________________________________________________ DESCRIPTION

Each Halcyon® component is modular in nature, allowing you to adjust lift capacity or change from singles to doubles in a matter of minutes.

Customize your system with a range of integrated weighting options and enjoy optimal performance in all diving environments.

BUOYANCY: The HALCYON® MC SYSTEMS adjust to every type of diving with the selection of the proper buoyancy and weighting system. Buoyancy compensation to maximise single tank effi ciency is available in the ECLIPSE and INFINITY systems while the EVOLVE and EXPLORER systems offer a range of lift choices and trim characteristics for double tank streamlining.

TRIM: The HALCYON® MC SYSTEMS control trim through the combination of weight distribution and stability offered by the 5-point Secure Harness. Removing weight from the waist not only prevents a sore lower back, but also shifts the centre of gravity up to the central torso and facilitates a streamlined horizontal profi le in the water. Proper trim is essential to reducing swimming effort and gas consumption, making dives easier and more enjoyable.

WEIGHTING: The HALCYON® MC SYSTEMS incorporate the use of detachable and non-detachable weight. The stainless backplate provides 3 kg of non-detachable weight evenly disbursed across the diver’s back. Alternatively, divers may choose the aluminium backplate when additional weight is not necessary. Furthermore, the ACB weighting system now comes a range of sizes to cover different diving situations.

PROPULSION: The HALCYON® MC SYSTEMS are designed to signifi cantly reduce the effort required to move through the water not only by establishing proper trim, but also by reducing drag on the diver. Merely doubling the surface area of one’s BC results in a resistance that is four times as great and requires nearly sixteen times more energy to move through the water. HALCYON® MC SYSTEMS reduce drag by minimizing the diver’s frontal area, resulting in greater effi ciency and ease of diving.

LIFE SUPPORT: The HALCYON® MC SYSTEMS provide divers with an integrated life support solution that accommodates a variety of emergency and utility lift devices. Signalling, lifting, and surface fl otation can be stored «transparently» within the MC Storage Pak. The HALCYON® Secure Harness allows for infi nite adjustability, providing a perfect fi t for all divers and diving systems. Men or women diving wet or dry will fi nd the Secure Harness is without question the most stable and well-fi tted design in the industry.

SINGLE TANKThe new standard

for single-tank diving.

Unprecedented streamlining.

Eliminates useless “features” that clutter

traditional BC.

The Eclipse wing has a long, narrow profi le that supports the diver’s single tank along his

or her entire length, preventing unnecessary drag and minimizing in-water effort.

Meanwhile, the infi nitely adjustable harness prevents the frustrating lack of control found

with typical buoyancy compensators.

Added stability reduces drag by encouraging a streamlined position — these changes result

in less effort and more diving fun.

DOUBLE TANKThe Explorer series

offers a proven design that remains popular

in a wide range of diving environments

and for a wide range of double-tank

gear confi gurations.

The Explorer wing is made from the most rugged materials available. The 400 denier nylon bladder has a tighter weave and is more

puncture resistant than a broad weave. The Explorer’s 1680 ballistic nylon outer shell is designed for maximum abrasion resistance.

The two materials used together offer the best protection from damage.Heavy-duty zipper has a three-inch wide strip of Cordura

to prevent zipper chaff on the inner bladder. Two-inch webbing-reinforced backbone construction.

«Trap-door» drainage system allows water to drain rapidly from the outer cover to minimize excess weight

and diver effort re-boarding the dive boat.Narrow and elongated construction improves streamlining and trim.

The Explorer wing is available in two lift capacities and is appropriate for a wide range of double-tank confi gurations.

The Explorer accommodates exposure protection and various equipment requirements.

The Halcyon® Cinch Quick-adjust harness sets a new standard in recreational

and technical MC systems. The Cinch can be used with single or double tanks and allows easy harness adjus-tability while avoiding “quick-release” buckles and dangling webbing. Simply push or pull the webbing and your size adjustment is complete. The Halcyon® Cinch system allows divers to size a snug harness without compro-mising easy removability. It is also ideal for student training and rental departments, or for divers that wear suits of varying thickness. The system is easily adjustable in or out of the water, making it ideal for conve-nient in-water equipment removal. The Cinch is also very effective during emergency situations.

Pease refer to page 20 and 21 for more details on each component of the Cinch Quick-adjust Harness.

Key Components of the Cinch Quick-adjust Harness:

• Cinch Adapter Plate• 12’ of replacement ‘H’ Webbing• ACB Weight Pocket Adapters• D-ring Assembly• Light Retainer Assembly• Quick-adjust Crotch Strap• Double tank Bolt Extender • SS Bolt Kit

The Halcyon® Cinch Plate: The Halcyon® Cinch adaptor plate is a high-quality injection moulded assembly that attaches to any Halcyon® Backplate.

The plate has an accessory attachment slot on each end as well as two holes that affi x the plate to the backplate. A series of slanted slots match the harness slots on the Halcyon® back plate. A specially designed riser creates a slick surface that allows webbing to slide freely when needed but to remain secure while standing up with tanks on diver’s back.

Replacement webbing: Webbing on the Halcyon® Cinch Quick-adjust harness must be free of blemishes and indents, which can be found on used webbing from previous tri-glide positions.

ACB Weight Pocket Adapters: Those adapters secure the ACB integrated weight pockets to the Cinch plate assembly and allow the Quick-adjust harness webbing to slide freely without affecting the position of the ACB weight pockets.

Light Retainer Assembly: The light retainer assembly consists of two pieces and enables easy adjustability of the diver’s harness while wearing a hip mounted primary light.

A 2” reinforced piece of webbing with a grommet on one end attaches to the Cinch plate assembly, supporting the hip-mounted canister. This reinforced webbing provides a rigid surface to hold the light off the diver’s hip, increasing comfort and enabling harness adjustability. The light is held in place by a second component which buckles into the rigid light holder. The waist harness slides freely within this fi xture, allowing a diver to loosen or tighten the harness without affecting the light position. The buckle allows the diver to easily adjust the light position or to remove the light while the harness remains secure. The light can be adjusted or removed while in or out of the water.

D-Ring Assembly: The D-ring assembly attaches to the Cinch plate and is fully adjustable, allowing the diver to select an optimal position for the D-ring. The D-ring assembly allows the waist strap to move freely without affecting the D-ring or attached accessories.

Quick-adjust Crotch Strap: The Quick-adjust crotch strap is webbed with an adjustable buckle that allows rapid resizing while eliminating any dangling webbing. The Quick-adjust buckle and strap hold securely even while used with a DPV.

SS Bolt Kit: Included in your Upgrade kit are all the necessary bolts to utilize any combination of Cinch accessories while attaching the Cinch plate assembly securely to the backplate.

Comfo Pack Upgrade : Halcyon® Comfo pack is made of 2 items, which can be purchased separately: • a set of 2 shoulder pads 2, fully adjustable

for a custom fi t around shoulder D-ring and harness accessories.

• a backplate Comfo pad 1, providing exceptional comfort without sacrifi cing adjustability and utility of a storage pocket, (as per below picture) to carry lift devices.

Stainless Steel bolt kit included.

Double Tank Bolt Extender: The Halcyon® Cinch Quick-adjust system may be used with a single or double tank confi guration.

When in use with doubles, the lower part of the Cinch adapter plate features moulded spacers to keep the harness webbing from being pinched by the tanks; this ensures the webbing can slide freely. In most cases the lower bolt of your double tanks will be of suffi cient length to allow this slight offset. However, the Halcyon® bolt extender allows divers to extend a short lower bolt where necessary. The bolt extender threads directly to the lower bolt of a double tank confi guration; it can be easily tightened in place.

S_________________________________________________ ABOUT HID LIGHTING

_________________________________________________ ABOUT LED LIGHTING

____________________________________________ WHY CHOOSE HID OR LED ?

HID (High Intensity Discharge) lighting technology replaces the fi lament of the light bulb with a capsule of gas. The light is emitted from an arc discharge between two closely spaced electrodes hermetically sealed inside a small quartz glass tubular envelope capsule. To operate, they require ballasts, which supply proper voltage and control current. The amount of light produced is greater than a standard halogen bulb, while consuming less power, and more closely approximating the colour temperature of natural daylight.

LED (Light-Emitting Diodes) are light sources utilizing diodes that emit light when connected in a circuit. The effect is a form of electroluminescence where LEDs release a large number of photons outward; the LED is housed in a plastic bulb, which concentrates the light source.

LEDs last much longer than conventional bulbs. A very small semi-conductor chip runs an LED, therefore they are very durable and tend to last many thousands of hours. LEDs are “instant on” much like halogen lamps, and convenient for use in applications that are subject to frequent or potential on-off cycling.

HID lamps are more fragile and have to warm up (15 – 25 seconds) during ignition.

HID lights are much brighter than current LED confi gurations. HID lighting is still preferred by most divers given the superior intensity and tight focus.

However LED technology is changing rapidly and it is foreseeable that LEDs will eventually surpass the performance of HID lighting in the near future.

Although it produces 5% of its output when fi rst ignited, the HID light requires a few seconds (usually 15-20) to come up to full output. Also, if power to the lamp is lost or turned off, the arc tube must cool to a given temperature before the arc can be re-struck and light produced. Halcyon HID lights only require a brief (5-10 second) cooling period before they can be re-lit.

LEDs are tiny “bulbs” fi t into an electrical circuit. However, unlike ordinary incandescent bulbs, they don’t have a fi lament. LEDs are illuminated solely by the movement of electrons in a semi-conductor material, making them energy effi cient and extremely resilient over long periods.

? How does it work ?

In all High Intensity Discharge lamps, light is produced by passing a current through a metal vapour. Free electrons colliding with an atom in the vapour momentarily knock an electron into a higher orbit of the atom. When displaced electron falls back to its former level, a quantum of radiation is emitted. The wavelength of radiation depends on the energy zone of the disturbed electron and on the type of metal vapour used in the arc tube.

? How does it work ?

The most important part of an LED is the semi-conductor chip located in the centre of the light source. The chip has two regions separated by a junction. The p region is dominated by positive electric charges, and the n region is do-minated by negative electric charges. The junction acts as a barrier to the fl ow of electrons between the p and the n regions. Only when suffi cient voltage is applied to the semi-conductor chip can the current fl ow and the electrons cross the junction into the p region. When suffi cient voltage is applied to the chip, electrons can move easily across the junction where they are immediately attracted to the positive forces in the

p region. When an electron moves suffi ciently close to a positive charge in the p region, the two charges recombine. Each time an electron recombines with a positive charge, electric potential energy is converted into electromagnetic energy. For each recombination of a negative and a positive charge, a quantum of electromagnetic energy is emitted in the form of a photon of light.

E/O CORDSHalcyon® E/O cords

are versatile underwater pluggable connectors.

They come standard on the APOLLO line and are available on most EXPLORER series (please refer to pages 37 to 39). They are available as an optional upgrade on all EXPLORER lighting systems.

Slender two-pin connectors allow the user to disconnect the camera, housing, and light heads from the Halcyon® waist-mounted NiMH battery pack. This feature is highly prized by divers seeking to switch between video and conventional light heads (or install back-up light head while underwater). E/O cords also allow divers to use one Halcyon® battery pack and switch it during the dive to diverse applications: for example use with the BtS® DIR® System heating vest (please refer to BtS® catalogue – pages 57 to 51 – for further details)

Where does the term E/O was derived from ?

E/O was the name used for these fi ttings when they were fi rst manufactured by Electro-Oceanic, Inc. in the USA. Over the years, through mergers and buy-outs, Electro-Oceanic has disappeared from the business landscape as a company.

The term E/O is still associated with this underwater connecting solution. Halcyon® and BtS® now support the fourth generation of the E/O design.

«P» VALVE SYSTEM

Overboard Discharge System « P-Valve »

Allows a diver to relieve himself while immersed. Without this possibility the diver will often intentionally keep himself

in a state of dehydration. Not only is this very uncomfortable but as well potentially dangerous.

There is a clear link between effective decompression and hydration.

A dehydrated diver will often act irresponsibly and there is evidence

indicating that dehydration is a major contributor to decompression illness.

Divers can remain comfortable and avoid health risks and throughout their dives.

The “new” P-Valve has many advantages. Besides streamlining, the valve cap allows for easy operation and maintenance access. The interior hose assembly design makes suit donning and removal simple. Total design consists of three Delrin® pieces, which makes installation fast and easy.

The P-Valve’s internal mushroom valve has been specifi cally chosen for precision fl ow rate and minimal backpressure. Kit includes a fl at spanner and a single-use tube of aqua Seal. The P-Valve will facilitate overboard discharge of urine through a dry Suit or Wet Suit.

Considered a must for any Dry Suit Diver undertaking moderate to long underwater exposures.

Complete Kit: - P-Valve - Installation Kit - Catheter - Manual Installation Kit

CATHETERS

SIZE LENGHT DIAMETER Small Medium Intermediate Large

Wideband is available in 4 different sizes.

The adhesive placement beginning just behind the glans is providing added security.

It prevents urine migration and build-up, which can result in premature removal or catheter blow-off. The soft silicone makes it comfortable to wear but also makes it easy to remove after the dive.

The Wideband Catheters come in boxes of 30 pieces.

Wideband Catheters by Rochester Medical, USA are well suited to be used together

with the Halcyon® P-Valve.

Made out of soft breathable silicone

and with an expanded adhesive area.
