Library Enrichment Activities Success
Each week with Mrs Saunders students have been creating different pieces of work during Enrichment club
in the library. One week they all brought books to life using modelling clay to produce figures and objects
from their favourite books. Miss Butcher was asked to judge these without knowing which students were
involved.

Art Gifted and Talented Drawing
Workshop DAY
On Friday 1
st February, a selection of Year 10 and 11 students
had the opportunity to work on a range of drawing techniques
in a specialist drawing work shop aimed at challenging the
Gifted and Talented students. The
Students drew from observation in a
variety of media on a large scale.
Year 9 G&T Drama Students
Educate Year 7 on Road Safety
On Tuesday 5th
March, Konflux Theatre in Education Company came to Turnford School to work
with a selected number of Gifted and Talented drama students in Year 9. With the direction of a member of
the Konflux Company, the students devised a whole group performance based on road safety, highlighting
the potential hazards and dangers that are caused by a simple lack of attention in peoples everyday lives.
This was then performed to the Year 7‟s in the hall who thoroughly enjoyed it giving lots of positive
feedback!
Royal Albert Hall Dance Group Prepare for Performance
Students lead by Mrs Puchalski, are working hard to put
the choreography together for their performance at The
Royal Albert Hall on 11th
May. The group are preparing
themselves by rehearing in the school hall as there are
so many students involved they will not all fit into the
Dance studio!
Year 8 Gifted and Talented Drum Morning
This was held on Wednesday 5th
December. Fourteen students were
involved in a 2 hour drum kit workshop run by our drum teacher
supported by Tom Thurlow, a sixth form music student . The session
began with working on a group performance comprising a wide variety
of rhythm patterns performed on an assortment of percussion
instruments. The focus then moved to the drum kit. There were 3 drum
kits set up in Music 2. Students were taught to play the basic patterns
of drumming, playing around the drum kit. Some of the performances
were impressive, especially Max Proctor who entertained the whole
group in a drumming play off with Tom. Here‟s looking forward to the
next session!
Help for Hero’s Sixth form
Concert
Yet another performance by the talented musicians of
Turnford was watched by students from Year 7 to
Year 13 during lunchtime on
Emily Jarvis and Claire Adams from Year 12 said “Turnford
has lots of talented and musically gifted students and we get the
opportunity to watch them and raise so much money for charity! A Level group,
Southbound and Sticks, Picks and a Microphone played a variety of music and entertained
the crowd”.
Year 7 get Cultural with Aboriginal Art! Last term the whole of Year 7 took part in the project Aboriginal Art. They
started this project by doing assessment drawings of decorative objects
including beaded necklaces and wicker hats. From there we moved on to
Aboriginal animals and dreamtime stories where each student created their
own story about their own animal such as Larry the Lizard and Kevin the
kangaroo. For our final pieces each student worked on a section of an animal
not knowing who had what animal or which piece. Once each piece was
finished they all came together to create the gigantic final pieces. Everybody
worked really hard and there was some fantastic work achieved! Well done
Year 7!
Art Club Successes
This term our art club has been more successful than ever! We used
recycling as our first theme to create a large scale collage of an owl
using bottle tops, string and paper including newspaper, books, maps
and music sheets. Each of our art clubbers did their own drawing of a
decorative animal including leopards, giraffes, owls and wolves. Megan
James was picked as the winner and it was her drawing that formed the
basis for the final piece. Once blown up we spent over 5 hours
layering glue and bottle tops to create this final piece. Now just watch
out for it to pop up somewhere
in school!
Next we had an Easter
egg competition where
each person made their egg
from scratch!. Each of the eggs had a
unique design which was pre planned on to an egg design
sheet. The designs were so good we couldn‟t pick one winner
we had to pick two! These winners were Lucy Tate from year
7 and Chloe Downing year 8. These two designs were so
different but each fantastic. All Easter egg makers did a
fantastic job and we had lots of fun making plenty of mess with
paper mache and paint.
Well done art clubbers for another fantastic term!!!! Miss Hatton
Drama Club Summer Term
House Competition!
After half-term, drama club will be running for
6 weeks working on various scripts. Groups will
need to be organised within Houses as
performances will be judged by a panel at the
end of the term!
Miss Hatton’s
Wall of Success The following Year 7 students have had their art
work displayed on Miss Hatton‟s „Wall of
Success‟ to show off their outstanding drawings
produced in lesson. Well done to Charlie
Craber, Karolina Szpigiel, Lucy Tate, Ebony
DeLuca, Ziynet Sevsal, Tore DeLuca, Alison
Lillie and Mia Dipaola.
Turnford Dancers represent A10 Active
The following students performed at the opening ceremony for the
Herts School Games. Again a fantastic performance and the
organisers and the production company commented on how
professional the students were and that the dance was brilliant.
Over 500 young people from all over Hertfordshire watched and
enjoyed their performance. Well done to Ellie Tanfield who
choreographed the whole of the dance.
As well as representing Turnford School they represented
A10 Active and we were both very proud of the students.
Many thanks

Outstanding Performances at the
Spring Concert!
The 12
th March saw another of our key stage 4 and 5
showcase evenings where musicians perform items of
coursework prepared for assessment purposes. This
year we had one or two extra items!
An outstanding performance was given by all students
with an abundance of solo and ensemble items on offer.
The concert ended with the Finale performed by a
combined year 10 and 11 ensemble which incorporated
elements of Samba with Stomp!
A most impressive evening of musical entertainment supported by 6th
form Art and Business students who created the posters, bunting and
refreshments for the evening.
The concert raised £251 for our charity fund!
This year we have decided to raise money to help the children‟s unit at Lister Hospital. They are in
desperate need of equipment for young people who have to stay in hospital, especially teenagers.
Two Weeks of Lunchtime
Entertainment by Year 11 Drama Students
In February, the Year 11 drama students performed a variety of shows to
different KS3 students for a whole two weeks! Audiences were packed out
every lunchtime and showed a huge amount of support to the Year 11
students, and were thoroughly entertained with their sandwiches! Shows
included Reverse, Going up, A day in the Life of Oscar Reynolds, Smoky
Years and Into the Fire.

Year 9 Gifted and Talented
Workshops
On March 1st a group of year 9 students participated in 2
music workshops, one involved guitar playing and the other
working with all kinds of scrap collected from the
caretakers. Students learnt how to play basic chords and
patterns on the guitar in an ensemble led by our guitar
teacher Dave McDonell and performed the finished product to their peers.
All performances were very impressive.
As for the scrap heap challenge, students were involved in a Stomp – like workshop creating performances
using old pots and pans, even a set of step ladders!
A most enjoyable and fruitful morning.
Turnford’s Got Talent!
