The General Certificate of Approval confirms the usability or applicability of the object oflicence in terms of the building regulations of the German federal states.

The General Certificate of Approval confirms the usability or applicability of the object of licence 1in terms of the building regulations of the German federal states.

Insofar as demands on the special expert knowledge and experience of the persons, who are 2put in charge of the manufacturing of construction products and construction methods, are stipulated in the General Certificate of Approval in accordance with § 17 section 5 of the Model Construction Regulation (Germany), it has to be considered, that this expert knowledge and experience may also be documented by equivalent proofs of ability of other member states of the European Union. This applies, if necessary, also for equivalent documents submitted in the context of the Treaty on the European Economic Area (EEA) or other bilateral treaties.

1.1 Object of Approval

The Halfen HAB H Anchor Bolt (hereafter referred to as Anchor Bolt) is made from ribbedconcrete reinforcing steel BSt 500 S, diameters 16, 20, 25, 32 and 40 mm, two hexagonnuts and two washers. A head is swage-fitted at one end of the Anchor Bolt and an M16,M20, M30 or M39 thread is turned at the other end of the bolt.

The Anchor Bolt is embedded in the concrete up to the mark which indicates theanchor depth. Appendix 1 shows the Anchor Bolt in its installed state.

1.2 Object of approval and area of application

The Anchor Bolts may only be used for the connection of precast reinforced concrete columns withthe Halfen Column Shoe.

The anchor connection is only permitted with groups which consist of 4, 6 or 8 Anchor Bolts.

The anchor connection may be used under predominantly static loads in reinforced or non-reinforcednormal concrete with a strength class of at least C20/25 according to DIN EN 206-1:2001-7“Concrete; Part. 1: Definition, production and conformity“. The Anchor Bolts may be used only if thereare no requirements regarding the fire endurance of the construction as a whole, including theanchor systems. The Anchor Bolts may be used in cracked and uncracked concrete.

To ensure that the Anchor Bolts are protected from corrosion, the joints between the reinforcedconcrete structural element and the reinforced concrete column whith the Column Shoe andthe recesses provided to take-up the Anchor Bolts must be grouted afterwards with high-strength,non-shrinking mortar throughout. At the same time, the concrete cover may not fall below theminimum values specified in DIN 1045-1:2008-08.

The dimensions of the Anchor Bolts must comply with the values listed in Table 1Appendix 2.

Any material properties, dimensions and tolerances of the Anchor Bolts which are notspecified in this General Certificate of Approval must comply with the specifications on fileat the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik, at the certification authority and at the externalauditor.

A ribbed, BSt 500 S concrete reinforcing steel according to DIN 488 with a 0.2% yieldstrength of 500 N/mm² and a minimum tensile strength of 550 N/mm² must be used for the16, 20 and 25 mm Anchor Bolts.

A ribbed, BSt 500 S concrete-reinforcing steel in accordance with a General Certificateof Approval with a 0.2% yield strength of 500 N/mm² and a minimum tensile strength of550 N/mm² must be used for the 32and 40 mm .The Anchor Bolt is made from a Class A non-flammable construction material inaccordance with DIN 4102-1:1998-05 Fire Behaviour of Construction Materials andStructural Elements; Construction Materials, Terms, Requirements and Tests.

The Halfen balustrade fixing HGB, type „anchor with head“ and type „anchor without head“ consists of a C-shaped channel made of hot-dip galvanized steel or stainless steel and two anchors welded on the back of the profile, made of concrete reinforcement steel grade BSt 500 S or BSt 500 NR.

The channel is cast into concrete flush with the surface. Hammer-head bolts or hook-head bolts in zinc coated steel or stainless steel including the corresponding nuts and washers, by means of which the connection elements of the balustrade construction are attached, are inserted into the channel.

Appendix 1 shows the anchor channel in its installed state.

The anchor channel may be used for balustrade fixings under predominantly static loads in reinforced normal concrete in strenth class of at least C20/25 and not exceeding C50/60 acc. to DIN EN 206-1 „Concrete; Part 1: definition, properties, production and conformity“.

The anchor channel with construction components in galvanized steel and welded-on anchors in steel grade BSt 500 S may only be used for concrete construction elements in enclosed, dry indoor areas.

The anchor channel where channel, bolt, nut and washer are made of stainless steel with material numbers 1.4401, 1.4404, 1.4571 or 1.4362 and the anchor of concrete reinforcement steel grade BSt 500 NR acc. to General Certificates of Approval no. Z-1.4-153 or no. Z-1.4-228, may be used for dry indoor areas and for constructions of the corrosion resistance class III acc. to the General Certificate of Approval „products, connection elements and construction components in stainless stees“ Z-30.3-6. For constructions of the corrosion resistance class III (bolt, nut and washer exclusively in stainless steel) also stainless steel profiles in combination with anchors in concrete reinforcement steel grade BSt 500 S can be used, if the concrete cover cmin acc. to DIN 1045-1:2008-08, table 3 and 4 is observed. This can be based on the actual concrete cover cvorh acc. to appendix 5, table 5.

The anchor channels where channel, bolt, nut and washer are made of stainless steel with material numbers 1.4462, 1.4529, or 1.4547 and the anchor of concrete reinforcement steel grade BSt 500 NR with material number 1.4462 acc. to General Certificate of Approval no. Z-1.4-153, may be used also for constructions of the corrosion resistance class IV acc. to the General Certificate of Approval „products, connection elements and construction components in stainless steel“ Z-30.3-6. As to the use in the ambient atmosphere of indoor swimming pools, the stipulations of the General Certificate of Approval no. Z-30.3-60 must be observed.

A galvanized anchor channel may make contact with the reinforcement only if the temperature at the contact points between reinforcement and galvanized steel parts does not exceed 40°C.

In the case of pre-stressed concrete parts, the clearance between a galvanized anchor channel and the sheaths of the tendon or the pretensioning wire must be at least 2 cm.

The construction parts of the anchor channels (channel, anchor, bolt, nut and washer) must comply with the drawings and specifications quoted in the appendices.

Any material properties, dimensions and tolerances of the anchor channels and bolts not provided in this General Construction Approval must correspond to the data on record at the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik, at the certification authority and at the external supervisory body.

In addition the regulations of the General Certificate of Approval Z-30.3-6 „Products, fixing elements and construction components in stainless steel“ must be observed.

The package, the packing slip or the delivery note of the anchor channel must be marked with the label of conformity (Ü-label) according to the label of conformity regulations of the German federal states. In addition, the delivery note must include the manufacturer’s sign, the approval number and the full designation of the anchor channel. Marking may only be applied if the requirements according to section 2.3 have been met. The anchor channel is designated according to the rounded exterior profile dimensions of the channel (width/height in mm), e.g. profile HGB 50/30.Each channel has to be marked with the manufacturers sign and the profile data (as designation, see above) according to appendix 5. Each stainless steel channel additionally has to indicate the type of material.To each hammer-head bolt and hook-head bolt the manufacturer sign and the strength class is to be embossed according to appendix 4, e.g. H 4.6.

2.3 Proof of conformity

2.3.1 General

Confirmation of compliance of the anchor channels and bolts with the provisions of this General Certificate of Approval must be effected for each manufacturing works with a certificate of conformity on the basis of a factory-conducted production monitoring and regular external supervision including initial testing of the anchor channels and bolts according to the following provisions.For the issue of a certificate of conformity and for the external supervision including the product tests that have to be carried out in this regard, the manufacturer of the anchor channels and bolts has to call in a certification body recognised for this purpose and a supervisory authority recognised for this purpose, including the product checking. The assertion, that a certificate of conformity has been issued, must be given by the manufacturer by means of labeling the construction products with the label of conformity (Ü-label), indicating the designated use.The certification body has to submit to the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik a copy of the certificate of conformity it has issued.

2.3.2 Factory-conducted production monitoring

The manufacturer shall set up its own department for conducting production monitoring at each plant. Manufacturer‘s production monitoring is understood as the continuous monitoring of the production process by the manufacturer, with the purpose of ensuring that the construction products manufactured by him satisfy the requirements of this General Certificate of Approval.

The extent, way and frequency of the factory-conducted production monitoring must correspond with the inspection and supervision plan on record at the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik and the independent supervisory body.

The results of the factory-conducted production monitoring shall be recorded and evaluated. The records must contain at least the following indications:

- Designation of the product, or of the raw material and components

- Nature of check or test

- Date of production and testing of the product or of the raw material and the components

- Results of check and tests and, if applicable, comparison with requirements

- Signature of the person responsible for the in-house production checks.

These records are to be archived for at least five years and presented to the supervisory body responsible for independent checking. They shall be presented to the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik and the appropriate supreme building supervisory authority on request.

If the test results are unsatisfactory, the manufacturer shall take the necessary immediate action to rectify the defect. Products which do not meet the requirements shall be handled in such a way that any confusion with conforming parts is avoided. After rectification of the defect, the relevant test - if technically feasible and necessary to confirm rectification - shall be repeated immediately.

Connections have to be designed in accordance with engineering principles. Verifiable calculations and design drawings have to be prepared taking into consideration the loads to be anchored.

The design drawings must contain accurate details about position, size and length of the anchor channels and of the connection element as well as about the bolt type and the size of the corresponding bolts.

Only profiles with length of 100 to 250 mm and with 2 welded-on anchors are permitted.

The design conditions for installation and assembly are listed in appendix 6, table 6.

The indicated minimum values are absolutely to be observed without minus tolerance.

At each manufacturing works the factory-conducted production monitoring has to be inspected on a regular basis, but at least twice a year, by means of an external supervision.

An initial test of the anchor channels and bolts has to be carried out as part of the external supervision, and specimen for sample tests also have to be taken. Sampling and tests are incumbent upon the respective accredited supervisory authority.

The extent, way and frequency of the external supervision must correspond to the inspection and supervision plan on record at the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik and the independent supervisory body.

The records of the certification and the external supervision are to be archived for at least five years. They shall be presented to the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik and the responsible supreme building supervisory authority on request.

Connections have to be dimensioned in accordance with engineering principles, including the hand rail loads and the wind loads acc. to DIN 1055-3 and DIN 1055-4. Verification of the immediate local transmission of forces into the concrete is provided.Transmission of the loads to be anchored inside the component has to be verified separately.The reduction of the cross-sectional area of the concrete due to the installation of anchor channels has to be taken into account for the static proof, where applicable. The connection element is to be designed for the occuring loads globally using the elastic/elastic method acc. to DIN 18800-1:1990-11. It has to be proved, that the anchor plate is sufficiently rigid against bending.The bolts may not be exposed to perpendicular load with lever arm (bending). This is achieved, if the following is observed:

the connection element is made of metal and tightened against the channel without intermediate layer, -the ho - le diameter in the connection element does not exceed the value of the bolt diameter by more

than 2 mm. The centerline of the bolt must be at least 2,5 cm off the end of the channel. Apart from that the bolts can be arranged in any order. The specifications in appendix 6, table 6, are to be observed. The anchor channel may be stressed by tensile load, transverse load and a combination of tensile and transverse loads perpendicular to the channel axis. Additional loads which may arise in the anchor channel, the component to be connected or in the component where the anchor channel is anchored as a result of obstructions to dimensional change (e.g. temperature changes) shall be taken into account. Occuring temperature impacts due to subsequent welding of balustrade parts to the anchor plate may not cause any deformations on it, in order to ensure an overall contact with the concrete surface.Load components parallel to the channels longitudinal axis are not permitted.

The effects HEd, VEd, MEd and NEd are to be detemined according to the calculation principles in appendix 7.

The design resistances of the channels against steel and concrete failure for fixings with 1 bolt must be taken from appendix 8, table 8a and for fixings with 2 bolts from appendix 8, table 8b. Also the design resistances of the bolts acc. to appendix 8, table 9, are to be observed. For the proof of the load capacitiy against concrete edge failure the design resistance of the concrete compression zone MRd,c is to be determined acc. to the calculation principle in appendix 8.

A minimum reinforcement consisting of stirrups and longitudinal bars, dependent on the anchor channel profile, must be provided according to appendix 6, table 7. Thereby one stirrup has to be arranged symmetrically between the anchors and one stirrup near to each anchor on the exterior side respectively.

It is not permissible to subsequently apply anchors on the anchor channel or to carry out any other modifications.

The installation of the anchor channel has to be carried out according to the design drawings that have been prepared in accordance with section 3.1.1., in due consideration of the construction principles acc. to appendix 6, table 6. The indicated edge distances are minimum dimensions. Any under-run of these dimensions has to be avoided by appropriate measures.

The required bolt size must be taken from the design drawings.

The heads of the bolts are inserted into the channel opening and after a clockwise rotation by 90° they must be solidly seated on both anchor channel lips, and locked by tightening the nut with the torque wrench. The tightening torques specified in appendix 4 must be observed.

After installation the correct seating of the bolt must be checked. The marking notch at the bolt’s shaft end must be perpendicular to the channel’s longitudinal direction. The center line spacing of the bolts must not be less than the values specified in appendix 6, table 6.

Size and position of the anchor plate to be attached must be detemined according to the design drawings provided according to section 3.1.1 with regard to the construction principles according to appendix 6, table 6. The surface of both the anchor plate and the concrete must be carried out such, that a close contact between both is guaranteed.

A back anchoring reinforcement according to appendix 6 must be provided, and it must be ensured, that its position is secured.

The anchor channels have to be fastened to the formwork in such a way that they are not dislocated when the reinforcement is laid and the concrete is poured and compacted. The concrete must be properly compacted in the area of the channels and underneath the head of the anchors. The anchor channels must be protected against concrete penetrating the channel interior.

The contractor put in charge of the installation of the anchor channels or the construction supervisor assigned by him or a competent representative of the construction supervisor has to be present on the site during installation of the anchor channels, the back anchoring reinforcment and later during the bolt installation (fastening of connecting components). He has to ensure that the work is executed properly.

In particular, he has to check the execution and position of the anchor channels as well as the required additional reinforcement.

After the concreting the position of the anchor channel must be checked again with regard to the compliance with the minimum edge distances. Minus tolerances are not permissible. Records must be available on site during the construction period and have to be submitted to authorised supervisory personnel on request. After completion of work, they have to be archived by the contractor in the same way as delivery notes for at least five years.
