Mechanical Double Grip Packer

Description:Mechanically set using combinations of rotation and tension or compression.Tubing may be left in tension, compression, or neutral.Holds pressure from above and below.

Applications:Production, testing, treating, and service work.

Limitations:May be difficult to operate in deep or deviated conditions.Avoid exceeding safe tension rating.

Hydraulic Set Packer

Description:Tubing pressure set, shear release.Mechanically held, holds pressure from above and below. Some have counterbalance valve system.

Applications:Deviated wellbores.Below hydraulic set dual packers.Stacked single string completions.

Limitations:Consider load on release pins under all expected operating conditions. With counterbalanced packers, consider temperature effect and compensate with slack-off weight.

Seal Bore Packer

Description:Wireline, Mechanical, or Hydraulic set.Permanent or retrievable.Holds pressure from above and below.Requires tubing seal assembly.

Applications:Production, testing, treating, gravel packing, extreme service.

Limitations:Force analysis recommended for all applications.

Hydraulic Set Dual Packer

Description:Tubing pressure set, shear release.Dual tubing strings.Holds pressure above and below.

Applications:Upper packer in a multi-zone production completion.Generally run with hydraulic set or seal bore packer below.

Limitations:Avoid severe pressure reversals.Force analysis recommended to determine combination of forces.
