• Concept behind their cartoons:

• Joseph Barbera and William Hanna set out to unseat Walt Disney as the premiere producer of cartoons and children's entertainment. In fact, the pair did manage to upstage Mickey Mouse with the creation of the cat and mouse cartoon characters, Tom and Jerry, in 1940.

• Joe Barbera modeled Tom and Jerry cartoons on the chase scenes featured in the great silent films of Charles Chaplin.

• The Hanna-Barbera cartoons differed from those of Disney in exclusively mining contemporary American life for their ideas, permeating the popular culture with images that reflected it in cartoon form.

• Company was Originally formed in 1939 by MGM

Their first project was a cartoon entitled Puss Gets the Boot (1940),

It served as the genesis of the popular Tom and Jerry cartoon series.
