PRESIDENT’S CORNER PRAYER
Fellow Rotarians and guests,
lets bow down our heads and feel the
presence of the Lord.
Almighty Father, we thank you
for this beautiful morning and for ar-
ranging our schedule with your mantle
of protection in attending our regular
meeting. Thank you for giving us our
professions and businesses. Thank
you above all for giving us this oppor-
tunity to serve and share with those
who have less in life.
Continue to shower us all the-
se blessings that we may be able to
serve mankind. Touch us and our
brothers and sisters who are sick with
your miraculous hands and bless the
medicines they are taking. Bless and
enlighten our leaders to continue
working for peace and prosperity of
our nation.
Bless the food we are about to
partake that it may nourish us physi-
cally and spiritually and bless also the
hands that prepared
them. These we ask in
the Mighty Name of
Jesus, AMEN.

Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Just like that, We are
about to depart the
3rd month of our
RY2020-21. This week,
We were rostered to
turnover the laptop computers to Holy Cross
to support the ‘No one left behind’ program
but due to the delay in the arrival of the units,
we will not be able to do that. We will re-
schedule once a firm date of arrival is known.
So today, I am sharing to the club the project
of the C.O.P.S. which is conceptualized by
Pres. Bambi Navaro of the RC Dumaguete.
This will be presented by Our Speaker today
Mr. Rez Macion, president of Sangguniang
Kabataan. Once we get to know more of this
project, please share any idea you may have
on how else we can support and give impact
to this project.
Thank you once again and more power!
Yours in Rotary,
Pres. Ran Lim

ROTARY COACHES THE YOUTH
Continue from page 7…
Once these students will be identified we
will now be tapping the vast resource of
unemployed college grads in the Baran-
gay preferably education graduates or
even from the members of the SK who
are qualified to tutor the children. We call
them “Rotary Volunteer Tutors ” or
RVT.
Each Barangay will have a model of 2
RVT ’ s handling 25 students and will do
their tutorial on a weekly basis. Figures
will be dependent on the idiosyncrasy of a
particular Barngay. ( 1 ) One RVT will be
handling Grades 1-3 the other will be han-
dling Grades. This is for the purpose of
specialization. These RVT ’ s will be giv-
en an honorarium of 40-50 pesos per tu-
tored children and will spend at least an
hour assisting the children and ensuring
that the child has a higher chance of com-
pleting the module. The children will be
visited once a week until the student will
be able to gain confidence. On top of the
honorarium, we will also be providing 2
RVT T-shirt bearing the Rotary Logo, 1
Face-shield, 1 Face-mask, personal alco-
hol and will be oriented on how to avoid
possible contamination during his tutorial
activities. A week before the start of Clas-
ses in the public school which is on Octo-
ber 5, 2020, the RVT ’ s will be coordinat-
ing with the teachers of their assigned
grade level, familiarize themselves with
the module and identify possible prob-
lems in preparation for their tutorial ser-
vices. Every Saturday, the RVT ’ s will be
doing 1 last round of their students for
evaluation and possible intervention if
required. In the afternoon the RVT will
provide a progress report to the assigned
Rotarian ’ s in that Barangay for monitor-
ing. An honorarium and snacks will be
provided to the RVT on that day. This pro-
gram will run for 2 months starting on Oc-
tober 05, 2020 and visits will be tapered
down depending on the needs of the stu-
dents. From 4x a week tutorial on the first
2 months to 2x a week on the third month
and finally once a month till the student
will gain confidence.
Now why is the program called “Rotary
Coaches the Youth ” . This is because
Rotary coaches the youth to utilized the
resources they have in the Barangay like
the unemployed college grads to help the
students from the public school have a
better chance in education while providing
guidance and financial compensation to
the Rotary Youth Volunteers or RVT. In
short with this program we will be hitting 2
birds with one stone.

ROTARY COACHES THE YOUTH
This Program was conceptualized after
viewing and studying the prevailing edu-
cational system for Primary students in
the Philippines given the current Pan-
demic situation. The educational system
in the Country right now is categorized
into (2) two. The on-line system which is
mostly utilized by Private Schools and
the Module System which will be prac-
ticed by the Public schools starting Octo-
ber 5, 2020. “Rotary Coaches the Youth”
will be targeting the students from the
Public School who will be operating on
the Module System. The idea of the
Module system is that the student/
parents will pick up the module from the
school or designated kiosk, bring the
module home, answers it, and bring back
the completed module to the school the
following Monday and then secure anoth-
er set of module, answer it again and so
on and so forth. Since the Module Sys-
tem is a home based learning it is ex-
pected that in case the student will have
some difficulty the family will provide as-
sistance. However in reality this will be a
long shot. Why? Because incidentally a
significant number of parents of public
school students are not equipped to pro-
vide help because either #1. They them-
selves are not capable enough or #2.
The parents are out there making ends
meet by working, like selling vegetables
in the market, doing laundry or etc just to
put food on the table. Given these cir-
cumstances, and without proper guid-
ance and tutorial, the student will likely to
drop out. Numerous children will be left
behind. This is where the program of
“Rotary Coaches the Youth” will come in.
By collaborating with Sanguniang
Kabataan (SK) of each Barangay, we will
be identifying the recipient through (4)
criteria:
1. Students from grade 1-6
2. Socio-economic status of the student
family
3. Nature of the work of the Parents of
the student
4. Capacity of the Parents to teach the
student
