Archbishop Announces Family of Parishes Plan

On Pentecost Sunday the Archbishop

announced the next step in the Unleash the

Gospel effort. In response to challenges facing

the Archdiocese, the decision has been made

to form new groupings of parishes called

“families of parishes.” This will be put into prac-

tice in two phases over the next two years. As

this is just beginning we do not know the impact

to our parish. There will be plethora of meetings

to discuss the model and structure of this new

normal reality for our Arch-

diocese. You can read the

process and to sign up for

updates.

Holy Trinity

Today, on Holy Trinity Sun-

day, we celebrate the di-

vine qualities that have

been revealed about our

Triune God; mercy, fidelity,

love, grace, and fellowship.

Last Sunday we prayed for

the gifts and fruits of the

Holy Spirit to come and re-

new the face of the earth.

This week we see that God

desires to be know by us

and to be in a relationship

with us. We respond by imitating this Triune God

in our relationships with love, mercy, fidelity,

grace, joy, kindness, wisdom and fellowship.

made about the ordination to the religious com-

munities or dioceses. I am happy to announce two

ordinations:

Anthony Michael VanBerkum

O.P - was ordained to the priest-

hood within the Order of the Do-

minican Friars on May 23, 2020 in

Washington DC

Colin Fricke – will be ordained to

the priesthood within the Archdi-

ocese of Detroit on Saturday

June 13 at 10 am.

We congratulate both gentle-

men on this very special day,

embrace them with our prayers

and hope that one day (when

the pandemic is over) they will

come to St. Clare to celebrate

the Mass. We also congratulate Br. Anthony and

Colins’ parents: Michelle and Mark VanBerkum and

Kathy and Michael Fricke.

Changes in our staffing

As the Archbishop stated in his letter the fallout of

the pandemic also impacted us here at St. Clare.

To respond to these challenges, both financial and

ministerial, we have made some difficult decisions

for the summer months. Our school will be adjusting

to this new situation as well.

Sr. Rebecca Hodge OP will no longer be part of our

parish team. Hours and pay have been reduced

for all other parish staff. Office hours have been re-

duced and we plan to open our office on June 16.

We will reevaluate all this by the end of summer

and adjust accordingly.

I would like to thank each of you and ask for your

continued financial support of our parish and

school. Together, with the help of each other and

the intercession of our Patron Saint St. Clare and St.

Michael the Archangel we will find the ways to

navigate this difficult time.

Have a blessed week

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

I write today with gratitude for the many blessings God has granted the Archdiocese of Detroit during our

missionary journey. Six years ago, we asked God to send his Holy Spirit upon us in a New Pentecost, to fill us

with an unshakable inner conviction of the truth of the Gospel and a love that compels us to share the

good news with those around us. Two years later, through Synod ‘16 we received clarity that God wanted

us to reclaim our Church’s missionary identity and we set out with a promise to trust and follow him.

We began in earnest the work of a generation, to unleash the Gospel in southeast Michigan and beyond.

Last year, we announced the next phase of this missionary movement, a plan to transform our parishes

and schools, making them places where individuals and families can encounter Jesus anew, grow as disci-

ples, and be equipped as witnesses of the Risen Christ.

This continues to be our mission today, even now in the midst of a historic pandemic. The current health

and economic crises have disrupted our lives and the life of the Church. This new reality has exacerbated

some of the challenges we were already facing. Even before the pandemic, we knew that the way we

function in our parishes needed to change. In addition to the shortage of priests available to serve in our

parishes and the shortage of vocations for future ordinations, the parish structures we inherited served our

mission well in the past, but they needed to be renewed and aligned for mission.

And so, in prayer and in consultation with others, I’ve discerned that now is the time to respond in faith to

the challenges we face and to take the necessary steps to better equip our parish communities for mis-

sion. Over the next two years, parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit will join together to form new group-

ings called “families of parishes.” These groups – these families – of three to six parishes will work together

and share human and material resources to further advance our shared mission. This new model will allow

groups of priests, deacons, and lay staff to better share their gifts and talents with their entire parish fami-

lies.

We are not the same diocese we were six years ago when we began this journey. God has been at work

in us, in our communities, in our parishes, and in our schools. We have learned to be more docile to the Ho-

ly Spirit. We have learned to walk with apostolic boldness and confidence in God. We are committed to

working in a spirit of innovation and collaboration. And most importantly, we have resolved to place Christ

and his mission above all else.

Over the next several months, groups of clergy and lay faithful will help me discern the leadership and

governance structure of the families of parishes and the ways in which this new structure will help all our

parishes become vibrant posts of missionary activity. At Advent, my hope is to announce the groups of

parishes that will form each family, with the first of them expected to begin to function as a family in July of

2021.

I invite you to visit the website www.familiesofparishes.org to learn more about this process and to sign up

for updates. Please join me in praying for this very important step in the life and mission of our local

Church. Let us give thanks to God ahead of time for the great work he is doing in our midst. God is with us.

He has given us his Holy Spirit as the initiator, guide, and driving force of our mission.

Blessed Solanus Casey, Detroit’s own priest, pray for us. Our Lady of Lourdes, protector of the sick, pray for

us. And dear St. Anne, patron of our Archdiocese, pray for us.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

The Most Reverend Allen H. Vigneron

BONANZA 2020

Dear Father Andrew,

The Wolfslayer family would like to express its sincere

gratitude and appreciation to the parish family of St.

Clare of Montefalco for all their selfless acts of kindness

in assisting Merna with all of her spiritual and temporal

needs. It was of great comfort to our family to know

she was so well cared for: from the incredible work ac-

complished at her home to making phone calls, find-

ing charities to donate her belongings to and being

there for her in prayer and friendship.

St. Clare was always a very important part of Merna’s

life, and she always spoke with love about her second

family there. St. Theresa of Lisieux, near and dear to

Merna, said that “loves proves itself by deeds” and

“that Our Lord does not look so much at the greatness

of our actions, not even at their difficulty, but at the

love with which we do them.” No amount of words

can express how grateful we are that she had that

love of her St. Clare family surrounding her, especially

in her last days as she surrendered herself in faith to the

will of Our Lord.

We pray for the continued safety and health of all the

St. Clare of Montefalco family and ask that God will

shower you all with His spiritual blessings.

Yours in Christ,

The Wolfslayer Family:

Kenneth, Christopher, Debra, Daniel, Melissa, Jordan,

Ryan. John, Heather, Cameron, and Emily.

Our Parish Community

Congratulations to the Bonanza winners who were drawn

last Sunday, May 31.

Dear Parishioners,

As our businesses and our churches gradually reopen

after this extraordinary time of difficulty and uncer-

tainty, we are closing out the 2020 Bonanza cam-

paign. In the early weeks of the campaign, in light of

the financial and emotional toll the COVID-19 crisis

was imposing, we reassessed our 1,500-ticket target

which had been reached in so many recent years.

We expected some kind of a downturn and hoped

for the best.

We were gratified, but should not have been sur-

prised, that the wonderful parishioners and friends of

St. Clare rallied to make it another 1,500 ticket sell-out

year.

We extend our deepest and most sincere apprecia-

tion and thanks to all and would be remiss if we did

not single out Fr. Andrew, whose enthusiasm, web-

postings, (and beard) inspired us all throughout these

past months.

Nice Job St. Clare!

We did it! Congrats St. Clare family on

holding our first public masses in three

months. We did a great job on wear-

ing masks and washing our hands. Let

us remember to social distance 6 feet

from one another, even with our

masks on. Remember, we are only

asking you to wipe your immediate area with a wipe

after mass. The three most important things to remem-

ber: Wear a mask; Wash your hands regularly and So-

cial Distance from each other. If you have any ques-

tions ask our ushers and greeters as you enter the

church.

Will you consider giving blood or plasma? We are hap-

py to host a Red Cross Blood Drive in our Social Hall on

Friday June 19. We have a strong history of supporting

the Red Cross with our blood drives. Also, they collect

plasma from recovered Covid-19 patients that is used in

treatment. They are committed to create a safe envi-

ronment to donate. Please see the flyer below and the

links to sign-up. Agnes Topacio is our Parish Nurse and

will be coordinating the blood drive. Stay Safe, Stay

Home.

Faith Formation

Happy Ordinary time. Well, liturgical-

ly it might be Ordinary, but I do not

think it is “ordinary” in our every day

living. One theme we need to make

“ordinary” is “Jesus is my Savior, Jesus

I trust in you, Jesus I believe in you.”

Adult Faith formation: We will be

starting a Summer Adult Faith Formation program

on June 17. See the announcement below and

please join us..

First Holy Communion: We would like to have a

ZOOM meeting with children and parents on two

Mondays in June. June 22 at 7:00; June 29 at 7:00.

We may ask for a few more. We are trusting that

one parent would be able to be in attendance

with the child.

If you have a child preparing for First Communion

and did NOT receive a parent letter, please email

[email protected].

Confirmation: At this point, no dates have been set

by the Bishops for our 8th grade Confirmation date.

RCIA: Activities for our three candidates will begin

on Saturday, July 11 at the 6 PM Mass. Consider

joining us.

Greetings St. Clare of Montefalco Families:

We are almost near completion of wrapping up the 2019/2020 school

year. Our Grade 8 students will officially graduate on June 20. They are

having a special Baccalaureate Mass at 6:00 PM that Saturday evening.

It will be a new type of social distancing celebration. The St. Clare of

Montefalco School family is proud of their graduates. Take note of who

they are and where they will attend school next fall in today’s bulletin.

Cleaning classrooms, doing records, reviewing graduate level classes in virtual teaching,

talking with new families and zooming with their 2019/2020 students Wednesday have kept our teachers occu-

pied this past week. The staff was treated last Friday to dinner delivered to their homes. An appreciative parent

who has moved to a northern suburb blessed the teachers with a meal as he now debates making the drive to St.

Clare of Montefalco School next fall. He had not intended upon returning as it is quite the drive, but he shared he

did not know how any experience would ever compare to St. Clare of Montefalco. He wants the best for his child

and feels St. Clare of Montefalco School provided just that for his daughter.

Once our eighth graders graduate on June 20, our school will have a Virtual Open House. The date will be an-

nounced in the next bulletin. We so hope you join us and visit classrooms and programs that represent the heart

and essence of belonging to St. Clare of Montefalco School. Here is a very, very quick virtual overview of Ms.

Nader’s classroom.

(you can watch the video from the electronic version of the bulletin at https://stclarem.org/bulletins)

Our Virtual Open House will not be at such a fast pace. We wanted to tease you today into wanting to see more.

Peace and safe health wished to you all,
