Math 3 Warm Up April 16, 2012

1. Compare the grades on a vocabulary test of 15 students who study using flashcards and who do not use flashcards. The students decide which group they are in. What type of study is this?

2. Determine which brand of water students prefer. The students are randomly chosen at in the commons area and are asked to taste both brands which out knowing which brand they are drinking. What type of study is this?

3. Every 4th school is selected from a numbered list of 1 to 40 schools.

To determine which brand of dressing students prefer, 24 students are randomly chosen at in the commons area and are asked to taste 3 different brands (A,B,C) out knowing which brand they taste. They will then vote on the brand that tastes best.

Standard: MM3D1. Students will create probability histograms of discrete random variables using both experimental and theoretical probabilities.

The data we collect Friday from your colored pencil lengths is provided.Using this data, work within your groups to complete the task.
