Saluting the Class of 2016
Graduation EventsIn a small town like Harbor Springs, graduation season is defined by shared stories. It’s a time full of baby pictures, memories, and equal parts laughter and tears. It’s pomp and circumstance rooted in the tradition of walking Ottawa Stadium’s steps.
It’s the time of year when this town holds up its graduates with honest love and authentic hopes for the futures of each and every child who has grown up here.
While the Class of 2016 officially finished school last week, their commencement celebra-tions will begin at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, with Honors Convocation at the Performing Arts Center. Baccalaureate follows on Thursday, June 2 at 6 p.m.. This year’s Baccalaure-ate service will take place in downtown Harbor Springs at the United Methodist Church.
Graduation will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, at Ottawa Stadium. Harbor Springs Alumni Chris Shepler will be this year’s featured speaker. In the event of rain, graduation ceremonies will be held in the Harbor Springs High School gymnasium.

Keep Calm and March On...The Harbor Springs High School Marching Band plays a huge role in all of town’s most important parades (Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Homecoming...and Hallow-een). For some graduating seniors, Memorial Day marks their last performance with the band. The students also set the tone for the memorial at the waterfront, with patriotic songs that always evoke emotion from the crowds gathered to honor the men and women who serve in the nation’s armed forces.
