about aging and life in gen-eral that is circulating onCyberspace. I hope youenjoy.
When I was a child Ithought “nap time” was apunishment. Now, as agrown up, it just feels like asmall vacation!
The biggest lie I tellmyself is... “I don’t need towrite that down, I'll remem-ber it.”
I don’t have gray hair. Ihave “wisdom highlights”.I'm just very wise.
I’m going to retire andlive off of my savings. Notsure what I’ll do that sec-ond week.
At my age “gettinglucky” means walking intoa room and rememberingwhat I came in there for.
Old age is coming at areally bad time!
If God wanted me totouch my toes, he would’veput them on my knees.
The kids text me “plz”which is shorter thanplease. I text back “no”which is shorter than“yes”.
You know that tingly lit-tle feeling you get whenyou really like someone?That’s common sense leav-ing your body.
I don't like making plansfor the day because thenthe word “premeditated”gets thrown around in thecourtroom.
Last year I joined a sup-port group for procrastina-
tors. We haven’t met yet...

Brenda Cranford School of Dancepresents 34th annual spring showcase
The Brenda CranfordSchool of Dance will presenttheir 34th annual springshowcase, “Let It Shine”,May 15 at 7 pm and May 16at 2 and 7 p.m. at the CenterTheater, Hartsville. Doors willopen 1 hour prior to theshow and seating is on a firstcome basis. General admis-sion is $10 and tickets maybe purchased at the door.As in the past, all threeshows are usually full capac-ity so it is advised to arriveearly for best seatingoptions.
Students of all ages andlevels will perform in the var-ious styles of dance in whichthey have studied and theevening promises to be veryentertaining. The openingnumber will be a uniquechange from the past open-ings and will feature somevery special guest entertain-ers to add to the theme ofthe show.
The studio is under thedirection of Brenda Cranford
who opened BCSD in 1981.Their staff this season con-sists of Lynn Newsom,Tracee Auman, AmandaWright, Ali Nelson, JaimieCranford, Macey Gillis,Sarah Floyd, AlyssaAmmons, Savage Watsonand Dana Simmons.
Summer programs willbegin on June 8 and the stu-dio is now taking registra-tions for all summer camps,programs and upcoming fallclasses.

The Hartsville Museum isexcited to host the Best ofShow 2014 traveling exhibitsponsored by the South Car-olina Watermedia Society(SCWS). The 30 top awardwinners will be displayed dur-ing the month May.
The SCWS promotes theartistic and professionalinterests of its memberswhile also providing visual
arts programs to the public.In existence since 1977, theWatermedia Society makesthe accomplishments of itsmembers available to abroad spectrum of SouthCarolina citizens. Marketingthe original works of SCartists, SCWS is the largeststatewide visual arts group.Public outreach and educa-tional programs are sup-ported.
The juried art will be on
location at HartsvilleMuseum, 222 N. Fifth St.until May 27.

Hartsville Animal Hospitalwill hold an open house andpet adoption event on Satur-day, May 16. The adoptionevent will start at 10 a.m. andlast until 2 p.m. Pets avail-able for adoption will includepuppies and kittens from theDarlington County HumaneSociety and ChesterfieldCounty Animal Services. TheAnimal Hospital has gener-ously offered to give eachadopted pet free vaccina-tions, exams, and a care kitfor new pet owners. Theopen house will be from 1p.m. to 3 p.m. Light refresh-ments will be provided. TheAnimal Hospital will have nor-mal operation hours untilnoon, and will have specialdeals and discounts all dayon their wide variety of col-lars and leashes.
New owners Dr. KenzoTochiki and Dr. Ryan Jamesare excited to welcomeHartsville’s citizens and theirpets. They purchased the
Animal Hospital in October2014 following Dr. AlMcCaskill’s retirement. Dr.James is from Darlington,and studied at Clemson andAuburn. He has worked forHartsville Animal Hospitalsince 2006. Dr. Tochiki wasborn in Lima, Peru and raisedin Charlotte, NC. He studiedat High Point University andthe Ohio State UniversitySchool of Veterinary Medi-
cine. Kenzo joined HartsvilleAnimal Hospital in 2014 andresides in Hartsville.

April’s Recyclers of the Month announcedTiffany and Ford Wallace
are the City of Hartsville’sRecyclers of the Month forApril 2015.
Tiffany said much of whatthe family throws out, suchas bottles and shippingboxes, goes into recycling.She has long been a recy-cler, she said, and has taughther son to be one as well.
“I’ve always felt it wasimportant,” she said. “It’sjust as easy to throw items inrecycling.
As the Recyclers of theMonth, the Wallace familyreceived a yard sign as wellas a Main Street Hartsville
downtown gift certificate. The award program high-
lights those city residentsparticipating in the City of

Bethea Baptist Retirement Community opens aquatic center
DARLINGTON--On Fri-day, May 1, Bethea BaptistRetirement Communityopened their new aquaticcenter with a dedicationservice in the Sidney SuttonChapel. Built with fundsraised by residents, staff,and friends of Bethea, thisyear-round, state of the art,indoor pool and spa will bethe first retirement commu-nity aquatic center in the PeeDee area.
According to BetheaExecutive Director, BenSpurling, he and many of hisresidents had a vision aboutthis new addition to Bethea’scampus for many yearsbefore it became a reality.Spurling shared at the dedi-cation service “We receivedour first generous donationAugust 2013, more dona-tions followed, in April 2014we had our groundbreakingand this morning, we had our
first water therapy class!”This new aquatic center
will not only benefit the resi-dents of Bethea, it will alsobe available to the surround-ing community by providingwater therapy seminars andwellness classes. Spurlingsays “This new aquatic cen-ter was never meant to beexclusive, rather inclusive forseniors throughout the PeeDee.”

The hands that heal, the ties that bind.e wears the ring. And he’s determined to live to see
his grandson wear it too. Ray Hayes, The Citadel class of 1952, and Russell Watkins, The Citadel class of 2017, share the double bonds
the 84-year-old Hayes suffered an intestinal obstruction, it looked like he may not get to see his grandson graduate from The Citadel 65 years after he did. With his life hanging in the balance, Hayes was rushed to the Emergency Department at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. His age and other medical complications notwithstanding, the medical team knew his only chance was surgery to relieve the obstruction. Dr. Tom Mincheff, general surgeon, expertly performed the procedure. Had he not acted quickly and decisively, Ray Hayes would not be with us today. But happily he is, and he remains committed to participating in the
presentation of Russell’s diploma from The Citadel. Pre and post-operative care from Dr. Rudolph Jokl and Dr. Robert Elder, along with the ongoing dedication of Dr. Mincheff, kept the dream alive. The thoughts of a guilty manAs a children growing up,
it never really bothered upwhen we told lies to keepfrom getting punished or get-ting a much deserved spank-ing. My daddy was a verykind and gentle man, butwhen his kids crossed theline, he became our worstnightmare. He made believ-ers out of us both in God andin him as our father who wasresponsible for our souls.One thing our dad did not tol-erate and that was lying. Itwas better to tell the truth,than to lie and he find outlater. Because of this train-ing, and as we got older, wefound it hard do things thatwere wrong without feelingguilty about doing it.
Guilty can be both a goodthing and a bad thing. Guiltcan make a personstraighten up and fly right orlive in a downward spiral.Sometimes guilt won’t allowyou to ask for forgiveness orseek the mercy of God.That’s when people taketheir own judgment into their
own hands. Do you recallJudas who considered him-self a friend of Jesus andone of the disciples who car-ried the guilt of framingJesus and exposing Him tohis accusers? His guilt wasso heavy that he took hisown life and hung himself. AllJudas had to do was go tohis Father and ask for his for-giveness.
Then there is the goodkind of guilt that reminds us
that we have to repent andget in good standing with ourLord and Savior. It remindsus that we have stepped outof the will of God and weneed to return and seek theforgiving Father and receivehis loving kindness.
We all are guilty at onetime or another, but accord-ing to the scriptures we were“born in sin”. We were guiltyfrom the beginning and thencame Jesus to the rescue.He bore all our guilt andshame and took it upon Him-self so that we can live aguilt-free life. And when wedo find ourselves in a guiltystate, we can go to ourFather and ask for forgive-ness and deliverance to keepus on a forward path. Satansometimes takes advantageof our guilt and reminds usover and over of our wrongdoing, but we need to remindhim that we are forgiven.

Using more than a centuryof collected data, the Institutereports that most studentslose the equivalent of twomonths of grade equivalencyin mathematics, and low-income students tend toexperience an equal loss inreading achievement. TheInstitute also documentslower scores on standardizedtests following summer vaca-tion than at the beginning ofsummer.

COLUMBIA--The SouthCarolina Governor’s Schoolfor Science & Mathematics(GSSM) has welcomed itsthird and largest class of 75students from across thestate to Accelerate, theSchool’s new, three-year,online engineering programdesigned to help motivatedhigh schoolers jumpstartengineering degrees andcareers.
Developed by GSSM,Accelerate is designed tocultivate the next generationof creative engineers andtechnical leaders by offeringhigh-achieving students apath toward earning as manyas 40 semester hours of col-lege credit during the lastthree years of high school.
Curriculum includes vir-tual synchronous instructionthroughout the school year,as well as hands-on, team-based projects during week-ends and summers.Accelerate students remain
in their home high schools.Courses are taught byGSSM and Clemson Univer-sity faculty.
