“Let your light shine… and glorify your

heavenly Father.”

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.” These words are from the book, “A Tale of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens. But they are also words that have been on my mind in these days of pandemic quarantine and social distancing. One day we will look back on this and those words will fit perfectly. We will admit the bad of these days, but we will also recognize the good in them. Yes, this virus has altered our way of life presently. Many have been sick. Many have died. Elective surgeries have been cancelled. Hospitals will not allow anyone to accompany a patient having surgery or is being admitted. The economy has suffered. Many have lost their jobs. Some businesses have shut down permanently. And there’s been a shortage of certain personal, hygiene products, as well as, specific food items. The prices of other food items have seemed to increase. And it has even affected the way we worship! I’ve read stories of times during war, or religious suppression, when people had to gather secretly in underground places or secret hideouts to assemble in co-operate worship. But not this time! That’s the bad. So, what’s the good? Well, the good is: We have gathered through drive-in church and digitally through online services. And while that’s not ideal, and not the way we really want to do church, we’ve learned some things from it. We’ve learned that we need to take advantage of technology and live stream even when we get back in house. The scope of live-streaming is beyond our comprehension. We’ll never know this side of heaven, the number of people we are reaching. The good also is that our hearts are now longing for some things we once took for granted---like Sunday school, praising God and singing songs of worship together, and with the fellowship of one another in the family of God! Also, we’ve learned that we can get along with a simpler way of life. We use to have to be on the go all the time, but not now. Now, we’ve learned to eat at home and enjoy the family. Now, we’ve learned that a simple ride through the country or city is an enjoyable outing. Now we’ve learned what’s really important. And one day we will look back and say, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times!” Stay Safe and God Bless--- Bro. Jerry

Slowly & Safely Re-Opening Bethany Baptist Church

Because of these unprecedented times, we are carefully reviewing information

from the CDC, GMB and updated guidelines from Church Mutual.

Your spiritual health, physical health and safety are our number one

priority. Thank you for your understanding, your poise and your

endurance throughout all of this as we navigate these unchartered waters.

We are truly all in this together! On the last Sunday of May 2020, we will have opened for Morning

Worship Services at 9 am & 11 am only. At time of print for this article, that

was the plan. On Sunday, June 7th, will interchange the groups that attend

Morning Worship from last week. June 7th, if your last name begins with the letter beginning M - Z, please attend

the 9 am service. If your last name begins with the letter A - L, please

attend the 11 am service. Updates will be shared in the bulletin, Church App, Church Website and OneCalls on when

we will begin physically meeting for Sunday School and all the mid-week

gatherings. As for now, we will continue Zoom meetings until further

notice.

Virtual Sunday School Classes are held each Sunday via the Zoom Meeting App:

Children's Sunday School @ 2 pm Youth Sunday School @ 2:30 pm

Adults Sunday School @ 3 pm On Wednesdays #themix meets via Zoom

@ 6:30 pm Please contact the Bro. Luther or the

church office for information on how to join in these meetings.

Wow, June. This came kind of quick. I know the past few months have been really strange, but I have to be honest, I feel like God is using the situation that we are in to further the Kingdom. I know that God is in control of all situations and is going to use this in a mighty way. I struggled to write this article because I am usually using my June newsletter article to focus on VBS, Longridge and youth camp. This year, none of those things are taking place, so I am bummed out. I began to think and pray. Would God want me to struggle with this so much that I lose my sight of Him? Surely not. Over the past few months, we have had to look outside the box to get the Gospel message out. We have utilized social media, Zoom, and our parking lot to share His Word. Why should the summer be any different? I would just ask that each of you pray about the direction of our church as we begin to open the physical doors of the church. We have had to work hard to keep the mission of the church going over the past few months and I don’t want to lose that mindset just because we can sit in the pews again. All too often, we lose focus of what is important when we experience the comfort our lives bring. When we lose that comfort, we tend to focus in and make things happen. As we enter into our doors again, and a summer filled with uncertainty, lets all pray that God uses us and the situation we find ourselves in to do some mighty things for the Kingdom.

Bro. Luther

Hello Ladies, My prayer is that each of you have enjoyed the warm weather and the flowers blooming over the previous month of May. I hope this newsletter finds you all well and enjoying time with your families as we approach summer. Summer will look different for each of us this year. VBS will hopefully take place later this summer, our church camps have been cancelled & some of us are apprehensive about going on vacation due to crowds, etc. My prayer is that each of you will not live in fear but with a new way of “doing things.” Right now that seems to be wearing face mask, using the 6 foot rule and trying to stay out of crowds. It truly amazes me how much has changed just since December. We have to continue to put our trust in the Lord and know that he knew every bit of this before it even happened. My question to you is, what are you doing for the kingdom during all of this? Have you called or sent a card to someone who may be down and out? Or someone who lives alone? Remember...we are to be the hands and feet of Jesus in each day we are given in this life on earth. I know I fail at this on some days more than others, but I want to continually strive to do what God has called us to do. That keeps me going in the right direction. Praying for you all, Jennifer Thomason
