Job Opportunities of this course:
The students passing out from SIIT with International Certificates can enter into
career as Junior Automation Engineer or Instrumentation Engineer and can grow
up into the hierarchy of Shift Engineer , Site Engineer , Plant
Engineer , and Project Engineer and Plant Manager and to
highest and reputed position of Project Manager in International
Companies all over the world as well as National Companies.
There remuneration and other perks may be in International
Standard according to their individual skills.
PLC/ Automation Lab
The PLC lab of SIIT contains Multiple Workstations equipped with Computers , PLC
units and other Interfacing Devices to train
students how to program and upload Ladder Logic
Code . Students’ program ladder logic code using
the RSLogix software, which provides a graphical
interface representing conditional computer
programming functions such as if/else statements.
The primary objective of the PLC lab is to familiarize students with how signals from
Input Devices (i.e. switches , sensors , etc.) can interface with PLC units in order to
invoke certain actions (i.e. start/stop an electric motor, turn on a light, etc.). A PLC
functions similar to the computer. A computer processes input (i.e. keyboard entries,
sounds from microphones, etc.) and invokes a certain output (i.e. showing the letter you
typed on the screen, sending a request through the internet, etc.). Similarly, a PLC unit
processes input and invoke output, but the inputs to a PLC unit are usually devices such
as sensors, buttons, switches, etc. The outputs are usually signaling to start/stop
motors, turn on/off lights, sound a horn, etc. The lab is based on the International
Brands Allen Bradley , Siemens , Honeywell , ABB and Omron etc… of Programmable
Logic Controllers, which are widely used in factories and other settings.

SCADA
SCADA stands for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. It is not a full control
system, but it focuses on the supervisory level .SCADA is a purely software package
which positioned on the top of hardware to which it is interfaced, in general through
Programmable Logic Controllers(PLCs) or any other hardware modules. SCADA can
be used for Monitoring and Controlling the Plant or Equipments. The control may be
automatic and sometimes initiated by operator commands. The primary interface for an
operator is a graphical display usually through
computer screen. The updating in Parameters
in the field will be reflected or updated in
computer screen. For Monitoring the situations
in Plants the Operators or Engineers must
have knowledge about SCADA software and
its controls.
Variable Frequency Drive [VFD]
A Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) is a type of Motor Controller that drives an Electric
Motor by varying the Frequency and Voltage supplied to the Electric Motor. Frequency
(or hertz) is directly related to the Motor’s Speed (RPMs). If an application does not
require an Electric Motor to run at full speed, the VFD can be used to ramp down the
Frequency and Voltage to meet the requirements of the Electric
Motor’s load. As the application’s motor speed requirements
change, the VFD can simply turn up or down the motor speed to
meet the speed requirement. A VFD controls the speed of an AC
Motor, which provides flexibility to the process since Speed can be changed easily for
Process Optimization. Optimizing Motor Control Systems by installing or upgrading to
VFDs can reduce energy consumption in facility by as much as 70%. Additionally, the
utilization of VFDs improves product quality, and reduces production costs. VFD may
enhance the user’s profitability by improving the process, which in turn produces a fast
Return On Investment (ROI).VFD’s are used in Mechanical Field for controlling the
5
Pump Control Systems and also it is used in Electrical and Instrumentation fields. So
now a-days engineers need to have awareness about the use and working of VFDs.
LabVIEW
LabVIEW is a highly productive development environment for creating custom
applications that interact with Real-World Data or Signals in fields such as science and
engineering. It is a software development environment that contains numerous
components, several of which are required for any type of test, Measurement, or Control
Application. It can be used for acquiring Data and Processing Signals, Instrument
Control, Automatic Test and Validation System, Embedded
Monitoring and Control Systems etc. So students with technical
background have an extra advantage if they have knowledge in
latest design software like LabVIEW.
Instrumentation Lab
Instrumentation Lab in SIIT is capable of providing Practical Training in Pressure
Gauge to modern Smart Transmitters . The Lab of SIIT is well equipped and capable
of imparting training for the Operation and Maintenance of various Measurements &
Control Systems of the Industrial Parameters like Pressure, Temperature, Flow, Level,
Vibration, Conductivity etc. and the Final Control Systems like Control Valve, the
Control Systems of DCS/PLC/SCADA etc.
Instruments
The familiarity with the imported Instruments imparts the work experience equivalent to
long term apprenticeship in modern industries, during the training period itself.
Therefore the students become capable of working as experienced persons
immediately on completion of the course.
Difference from others…
Other institutes including Engineering Colleges use
just mere Training Kits fitted in demonstration
boards manufactured by companies in their
6
practical labs and they have no live relation with
real instruments using in Industrial Plants, but in
SIIT we use only Real Plant Process Instruments
for Practical Section to students, they are
obtained from Real Industrial Working Plants , so
they are real instruments than mere training kits.
1. This uniqueness makes SIIT’s students also unique in Practical Knowledge.
2. This Uniqueness highly helps SIIT’s students to score marks job interviews in both
Theoretical Viva and Practical Test, because they are familiar with Real Process Control
Instruments.
3. This Uniqueness helps SIIT’s students to easily be simulate with working atmosphere
immediately on entering into job in any type of sophisticated plant without anybody’s
help, because they are already familiar with the Real Industrial Instruments in SIIT Lab
and Operational Working Mini Plants of SIIT.
Two Operational Working Mini Plants
The major attraction of SIIT Lab is the PLC Controlled Working Mini Plants [2 Mini
Plants] with Pressure , Temperature , Flow and Level Control Loops in operation.
They are equipped with five Control Valves , seven Electronic Transmitters , Solenoid
Valves and other Process Control /Measuring Instruments . Students use the facility
for On-Site Calibration of Transmitters & Control Valves, Loop Checking, PID Control
Tuning, Instrument Tubing Practice and Cable Glanding & Termination Practice and to
have a Plant Overview in general.
