Giraffes and lions are roaming Zoo
Boise thanks to a new 4.5-acre
exhibit that expands the zoo’s focus on conserva-
tion and education. The African Plains exhibit features zebras, bat eared foxes, rock hyrax and weaver birds. Visitors will view the animals from an East African Village containing a schoolroom, ranger station, open-air market and an East African house. In addition to the animals, visitors will learn about the culture, customs and traditions of a place half way around the world. The zoo is home to more than 200 animals from 80 species, including red pandas, Magellanic pen-guins, Amur tigers, spider monkeys, snow leopards and a Komodo dragon. Zoo Boise is accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums, a national organization that supports excellence in animal care, conservation, education and science. Zoo education programs are available for chil-dren and adults, school groups and teen volunteers.
