HEAD TEACHER’S NOTE
Dear Parents and Carers,
Y9 and Y10 students continue to sit their end of year exams this week—thank you for
your support in preparing your son/daughter and for ensuring they have the correct
equipment.
We have special assemblies this week, during which we will by joined by our PCSO who
will be explaining the Rule of Law around conduct and behaviour in British society.
Our assemblies will focus on the importance of kindness and on our anti-bullying work.
We will continue to work hard to build an increasingly safe and kind school
environment and have a number of initiatives devoted to this work. Sam Petersen is
running a parent group in the near future to support us to work together on a number
of issues that our young people face. I look forward to being part of this group and
thank you to all parents and carers who have agreed to take part.
Next week, our school will be joining hundreds of other school communities across the
country to take part in School Diversity Week 2019. This national event is organised by
‘Just Like Us’, and has been launched with the support of the Department for
Education. Ms Burns, school librarian, will be selling ‘Just Like Us’ ribbons in the library
and Sixth Formers will be working with Ms Burns on creative activities that focus on
what makes us all unique. Students’ work will be pieced together to build a display for
the library. We will share an article and photos with you in a future bulletin.
Finally, Y11 students and staff are preparing to attend the end of KS4 Prom this Friday.
We are all very excited and looking forward to sharing what I am very sure will be a
very glamorous evening. We will post an article and photos with you in next week’s
bulletin.
Best wishes
Ms Baster

Food and Farming Trip
Year 10 food students had a very memorable day at the farm. They learnt about ‘farm
to fork’, careers in farming, eco planting, farm animal welfare and lots more. A very
tiring but worthwhile day was enjoyed by all. Luckily the weather held out for us; as
usual our food students were an excellent role model to others and we received
several comments throughout the day to mention their good conduct around the farm.
Especially well done to Jack Denny, Joe Sims, India Wyatt, William Court and Jade Smith
who especially impressed me with their questions throughout the day. House tokens
are on there way to you.

LIBRARY CORNER
Librarian’s Recommended Read
“I was browsing for a book to read when I saw the
Disney logo and came across ’As Old As Time’ by Liz
Braswell. It is a Disney Twisted Tale and being a Disney
fan I had to read it! It is an alternative story on Beauty
and the beast where Belle’s mother cursed the beast! I
would recommend this book to any Disney fan or any-
one wanting an adventure and mystery story. I would
rate this book 8.5 /10” - Amy Edwards (8DT)
Author Visit
What an amazing day the Year 7 and 8 students had meeting Bali Rai on Friday last
week. Both year groups had an assembly with Bali during which he talked to them
about the importance of reading and how he became an author. During the day, some
students from both year groups were lucky to have a workshop discussing empathy
with Bali. Many students came along at lunchtime to meet Bali, get a book signed and
take a selfie with him. Overall, the day was a great success and enjoyed by the
students.
