HEAD TEACHER’S NOTE
Dear Parents and Carers
We are looking forward to a busy week next week! Sports day takes place on Tuesday;
parents and carers welcome to attend.
This week Mrs McKendrick welcomed a number of Y6 students and families to attend a
transition tea party. It was lovely to see you all and especially lovely to see the warm
welcome extended by our Y9 students. On Thursday evening, Mr Tanswell and Mrs
Brand hosted the Stowupland stars talent show. Well done to all who took part and to
the winners: Charlotte White, Charlie Mai Lummis, Amy Cobbold, Freya Hadfield,
Megan Meadows, Charlotte Grand, Chloe Stachan, Mya Patel, Lilli Graham, and Sahira
Quintero.
This week, we have also had special assemblies as we continue to work on a number
of initiatives around kindness and anti-bullying. Our school community remains fully
committed to ensuring we all value and contribute to an ethos of kindness and
tolerance. This week our Community police officers joined us to lead assemblies for Y7,
8, 9 about the ’rule of law’ around bullying, kindness and caring. Students gave the
PCSOs a warm welcome and the assemblies were very informative.
Best Wishes
Ms Baster.

PCSO Visit
PCSOs came in this week to join the Headteacher
and Mr Holden to lead assemblies on the topic of
bullying with students during assemblies. The talk
was very valuable for students as it informed them
about bullying, the implications of bullying in
terms of impact and consequences. The
explanation of the legalities around bullying also
allowed the students to understand how
important and serious bullying is. The talk helped
students to reflect upon this very important topic.
Thankyou to our Community Officers for
attending.

Emotional Wellbeing Pilot Project at Stowupland High School
Update from Sam Petersen – School Wellbeing Practitioner
One of the really encouraging things for me over the first few months has been the
number of students who have come forward wanting to get involved.
I’d like to introduce you to Alisha, Celeste, Eloise, Macy and Zoe. This amazing group of
Year 9s approached me wanting to help with those moving from primary school to high
school. They recognise this can be a really unsettling experience and wanted to help
make the transition as smooth as possible.
They have some brilliant ideas that we are exploring and this week the girls led part of
a transition day aimed at giving prospective new admissions a taster of the school.
They gave their own time to enhance the experiences of others and were a massive hit
with the Year 6s!
For me, I’ve finished the audit stage of the project. I’ve got to know many of the
students and staff and am really grateful for all those who have taken part in surveys,
focus groups and 1:1s over the last month. I had an overwhelming response to the
parent’s survey which has really helped to inform the next part of the project.
Next week I’m looking forward to launching a theory of change group that will explore
the results of the audit and look to develop an emotional wellbeing plan for the school.
This will help to shape my role over the next year and for the school to explore some
key priorities in this area. The group will be made up of a cross-spectrum of
stakeholders – young people, parents, teachers, pastoral staff and some in senior
leadership positions and governance.
I will be in touch again as this unfolds and will be exploring the best way for me to
share some of the highlights of this work with you all.
LIBRARY CORNER
Librarian’s Recommended Read

“Having already been interested in the ‘Cherub’ series,
this book ‘The Fall’ is one of my favorites. This book
revolves around the main character James and how his
mission has gone wrong. I really enjoy spy and action
books and this has a great story. I would recommend
this to anyone who enjoys action/spy books. I would
rate this book 9.5/10” - Ben Jolly (8VG)
