What is MAGPI?

MAGPI is a regional aggregation point for Internet2 that serves the Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey research and education communities.

Programming Snapshot (Since July 1, 2006):

We have organized 80 programs for our K-12 Members.

200 + Schools have participated in our programs.

More than 12,000 participants have been involved in our programs.

• Events should be more than just a talking head. Use visuals, animation and multi-media to enhance videoconference events.

• Videoconferencing as a supplement. Add a videoconferencing element to existing programs or projects.

• Leverage Resources. Each participating site in a videoconference event will have different types of technology resources. Put them to use!

• Ran 2 Games: one for students in grade 2-3; one for students in grades 4-5

• Partnership with the University of Pennsylvania Physics Department

• Videoconference presentation that included live microscope images, power point presentation, live demonstrations from the physics lab and real-time student data analysis

• Physics Department worked with Participating High School Teachers.

MAGPI’s Contribution: Donated Equipment; Promoted the Event; Educated the Physics Department Faculty about Videoconferencing; Coordinated Communication
