JOB POSTING: Heavy Equipment Operator/Truck Driver Summary: Reporting to the Director of Operations & Maintenance (or his designate) the Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of equipment that may include: backhoe excavator, loader, bulldozer, front end loader, skid steer, dump truck, compactor, and roller. Operator will use heavy equipment to perform a variety of tasks which may include: fine grading and finishing; landscaping; sloping and banking; backfilling; ditching; excavating; rough grading; stumping; sub-grade excavating; sub-grade rolling; trenching; material handling; slope grooming and; snow removal. Ideal Candidate: Dependable & punctual Effective communication skills (both verbal and written) Comfortable working in various conditions Excellent problem solving abilities Responsible and safety focused Positive, approachable attitude Preference will be given to candidates with a valid driver’s license and clean drivers abstract Job Duties: Operate heavy equipment to complete a variety of job tasks to assist with Operations & Maintenance emergency water and wastewater repairs and Housing Department and Capital Buildings construction projects with due care Clean, lubricate, and maintain equipment Conduct daily equipment inspections & reports Report any repair issues or equipment hazards immediately Secure special attachments to equipment Assist with general labor duties when needed, in order to complete construction projects Wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times Complete daily paperwork detailing job hours and costs Work in accordance with all local health and safety laws and regulations Requirements: Some college, CEGEP, vocational or technical training Heavy Equipment Operator Trade Certification is an asset Valid driver’s license (Class 3 with air brake endorsement considered an asset)
